MAC Cham-Pale Lipgelees Review, Photos, Swatches

MAC Lipgelees: Bubble Lounge, Luxure, Sin-tillation, Straight to the Head

MAC Cham-Pale: Lipgelees

MAC Lipgelees ($14.50 for 0.50 oz.) see four new and limited edition varieties with the Cham-Pale collection: Bubble Lounge (sparkly pink peach), Luxure (off-white with pink pearl), Sin-tillation (sparkly pale icy pink), and Straight to the Head (sparkly bronze brown).

  • Bubble Lounge is a barely-there brownish pink with silver, white, and pink sparkle.  On my lips, it just looks like it adds shimmer/glitter but no real color.
  • Luxure is a sheer silver and pink glittered gloss with a neutralizing, slightly yellowed base.  This is the shade that seems closest to Resort Life (from Lillyland).  It doesn’t add a lot of color but plenty o’ shimmer.
  • Sin-tillation is a sheer silver and pink glittered gloss with a cooler, icy pink base.  It’s similar to Luxure, it’s just a cooler version and seems to have more predominant silver shimmer.   I was reminded me of She-Zam Dazzleglass (limited edition, no longer available).
  • Straight to the Head a semi-opaque dirty bronze brown with copper, green, and silver shimmer-glitter.  It was the most opaque out of the bunch, and even though it looks a little patchy in swatches, it never came across when I wore it all last night.

Lipgelees are thicker, gel-like glosses that come in squeeze tubes. They are non-sticky and more moisturizing than your average gloss.  They still have MAC’s signature vanilla scent, but the formula is unlike their other lip glosses.  While the original Lipgelees have tended to be less shimmery and “juicy,” these along with the shades from Lillyland are chocked full of shimmer.

These look better in real life than photographed, because they have so much shimmer/glitter and shine, photographs often show the particles individually rather than the smooth, more cohesive look they sport in person.  I liked these when I looked in the mirror, but I think they look rather lackluster in photos (even in just swatches).  They are incredibly shimmery, though, and if you aren’t big on shimmer, I would skip these.  While I didn’t experience glitter migration to my hair, there were a few stray glitter particles near my lips after three or four hours (which is when it fades).

I like them, but the colors are not my personal style, so I’m not personally enthused over the shade selection–the product itself is moisturizing, easy to apply, and lasts three to four hours on me.  There is some glitter migration (maybe four or five flecks), but it didn’t seem like rapid migration nor did it stray into the far reaches of my face or hair or somehow wander to my feet.  I have always loved that the Lipgelees come with 0.5 oz. of product–nearly double even large-sized glosses.

WOW! These are incredible in terms of shimmer. The most shimmery I go is usually with Chanel Glossimers but these…I am definitely picking up Bubble Lounge and Luxure. Perfect for the Holidays and New Years!

From the description bubble lounge was on the top of of wish list, but after seeing the swatch I think I’ll pass. You are right Christine there is a lot of glitter in this collection. Thank you so much for taking the time and reviewing everything! You are amazing!

These are what I’ve been waiting for! I love Lipgelees. I definitely want Bubble Lounge and Sin-tillation. It’s interesting that Luxure is so similar to Sin-tillation because they look pretty different in the tubes. I might also get Straight to the Head. I thought it might resemble Goldensoft too closely, but it looks pretty different. Do you think they’re very similar?

Jennifer Avatar

I really want “Bubble Lounge” based on how it looks in the tube.
Does it give more color in person? I really loved “Preppy” from lillyland and that gave so much shine/shimmer/color…These ones seem to be lacking…And me personally I need some color on my lips , doesn’t have to be bold or bright, but nothing ghostly as I am NC20, and feel I need color on the eye and lips to lead the eye…

Shontay Avatar

Christine, I am NC45 with pigmented lips. Do you think Sin-tillation and/or Luxe is too similar to Resort Life? I’m not completely sure. Plus, what about Bubble Lounge for pigmented lips? I’m thinking Straight to the Head is the best way to go for me.

Christine Avatar

Hi Shontay,

As mentioned in the review, Luxure is very similar to Resort Life. Sin-tillation is slightly cooler than Luxure, so it has a pinker base, while Luxure and Resort Life have yellower bases. Only Straight to the Head provides any significant color, so you’ll probably just see shimmer from the other three on your pigmented lips! 🙂

Danielle Avatar

WOW! The shimmer! I think I will pick up Straight to the Head, but I recently got Resort Life in the VV collection, so the others that are more pale don’t appeal to me. It’s funny that you mentioned She-Zam because my local CCO carries that and I swatched it just the other day! Great swatches once again!

JessicaM Avatar

thats exactly what Im thinking! At first I went gaga over Stylishly yours but now, Cham-pale is what ive got my eyes on. Straight to the head and Luxure are my target

lissa Avatar

Thanks Christine, great swatches and love how you also do a pic on the lips and a face pic, very helpful! Luxure and Bubble Lounge look really pretty and remind me somewhat of Lorac Multiplex glosses. I usually avoid glitter except on the lips but I have a terrible weakness for iridescent/opalescent stuff.

Jennifer F Avatar

I like Bubble Lounge and Straight to the Head. I may skip the other two as they seem similar and there isn’t much colour. My lips are quite red naturally so I’m unsure of them but I will probably check them out in store.

Carrie Ann Avatar

I wore Resort Life yesterday and realized just how similar it is to Sin-tillation and Luxure, so I’ll be skipping those. I wish MAC had come up w/ some more original shades. I do like Bubble Lounge and Straight to the Head, though.

How did these get an A-? super sheer and filled w/glitter….If this was another brand, they would not have but since you get all of the collection for free & you already love MAC – I’m not shocked. But I don’t trust the grading on this site. Most of the two collections coming out were filled with A’s…a little odd. You complained about these yet they get an A-? makes no sense. I’m sure if this was a drug store brand – would have been D- but since it’s MAC of course nothing less than a B.

Christine Avatar

Hi Braun,

I wouldn’t say these are super sheer at all – but I don’t see why being sheer or filled with glitter would be reasons to downgrade these? Lipgelees as a lipgloss formula is supposed to be on the sheerer side – you can’t knock a product for doing what it’s supposed to do. If you prefer your gloss opaque, that just means the formula isn’t for you, which is totally fine! 🙂 These are moisturizing, feel comfortable on lips — just because *I* don’t like the colors is no reason to give them a D-. I looked back on the ratings, and the collections received grades from A to C- — a few of the beauty powders were pushed up because they are huge, aka lots of value.

But more importantly – I didn’t get this MAC collection for free (or Stylishly Yours) nor do I get the majority of MAC collections for free. I purchase the majority of the collections to photograph, swatch, and review here on the blog for readers. There is always a disclosure at the end of a post if I did not purchase the product, so I urge you to look for those as again, I think I have received maybe a handful MAC collections in the four years I have been blogging — otherwise, I have been purchasing them in full, on my own, with my money, since Dame Edna.

Sarah Avatar

Christine, for what its worth, I think your grading system is very fair. Thats not to say I necessarily agree with everything you say, but thats to be expected – cosmetics are very personal and everyone likes something a little different. I think the vast majority of us are so appreciative that you devote so much time, effort, and money to this blog. It is a fantastic resource!

I’ve been seeing so many of my favorite youtube guru’s/bloggers being judged lately and its such a shame. I know how I would feel if I were in your shoes, so keep your head up, and keep up the great work!!

WithIt Avatar

I second Sarah’s comments! I trust and appreciate your ratings, Christine- mixing them with my own personal thoughts to make final decisions. I find your ratings and reviews abundantly helpful when deciding to purchase cosmetics. You should feel proud, and know that there are so many of us that respect your work and we might just be lost without you! 🙂

lissa Avatar

Thank you Sarah– I meant to respond to this post myself but couldn’t find it and then there was a similar issue on muse.

Christine, I think it’s wonderful of you to do all these reviews and swatches and giveaways and you’re always very clear, plenty of photos and swatches, a great reference that doesn’t cost us anything, is fun and saves me personally both money and hassle. I might not like the same items you do every time but I often know more about them than the person at the makeup counter thanks to some wonderful dedicated bloggers. AND I know the reviews are not put up by the company and negative reviews aren’t “lost” — thanks for the great service.

lissa Avatar

Christine– thank you for all your wonderful reviews and how much you invest in your blog in time and money. Sorry you have to deal with certain rude ignorant commenters. Merry Christmas.

Hi Christine!! Thank you for all your swatches and info! Very helpful! You are the best! I have to say I went to MAC today and got straight to the head. It’s nothing short of amazing! In fact I came home and panicked because I loved it so and yet it was sold out online. So I called my store and there was one left! I drove ALL the way back 45 minutes to the mall to get the last one!! It’s SO gorgeous! I own nothing like it and I have a million lip products!

As usually, in France we have Mac new collection one month after USA, I bought last Thursday some items among other bubble lounge (and nail lacquer very important platinum, feline and let me pop). I applied on my lipstick (a chanel one) and it’s very nice. I am not fond of shimmer but surprisingly I love the result.
voilà…

Julia Avatar

I have Luxure and I don’t know what to do with it! I purchased it on a whim and it’s WAY to frosty to wear to school, I can’t wear it to dinner because the glitter is left on my lips which is unflattering, and agh…it looks so pretty on you! I think my lips aren’t the right color 🙁

Joann Avatar

I really love the Bubble Lounge when I wear it with Hug Me. I was wondering if you can think of a gloss in the permanent line that is similar to Bubble Lounge? This collection sold out so fast I didn’t have time to buy another one. Thanks for any help you can offer.
