MAC Indulge Lipsticks
MAC Indulge Lipsticks

MAC’s Indulge Collection (online at MAC now, online elsewhere and in-stores on August 22nd for North America locations) features five lipstick shades in various colors and finishes. The only shade I’ve haven’t worn to test is Just a Bite, as it is very much your standard red lipstick from MAC (which isn’t a bad thing), so I expect it to wear well and long, but will test it in full tomorrow.

By Design Lipstick ($15.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “soft shimmering beige [with a Frost finish].” It’s a warm peach with a frosted, m etallic finish. It had semi-opaque color coverage and lasted three hours on me–it was a little drying, too. MAC Posh Tone, MAC Delectable, and MAC Freckletone are all similar in color but lack the metallic finish. See comparison swatches.

Feed the Senses Lipstick ($15.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “mid-tone mauvey nude [with a Lustre finish].” It’s a soft, neutral pink with a subtle mauve tint. It had semi-opaque color coverage, and it lasted for two and a half hours on me. Urban Decay Native is warmer. MAC Haute Altitude is similar–more opaque, a touch darker. Dior Candide is cooler-toned. Chanel Confidentielle is shimmery. See comparison swatches.

Just a Bite Lipstick ($15.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “mid-tone blue red [with a Satin finish].” It’s a medium-dark, cool-toned red with blue undertones and a natural sheen. It had mostly opaque color coverage, and I expect it would wear between five and six hours with some staining. MAC has released reds like this before. NARS Mascate is more matte. MAC Such Flare is more matte. MAC Runaway Red is slightly lighter. Guerlain Liu is pinker. MAC Absolute Power is also similar. See comparison swatches.

Smash Hit Lipstick ($15.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “sheer golden sparkle [with a Dazzle finish].” It’s a mix of pale gold, copper, and pink micro-glitter and large sparkle. It doesn’t deposit much color, mostly sparkle. It does have a noticeably gritty texture from the glitters. It wears for about two hours or less, but the glitter travels a lot. This shade is a repromote. MAC Ruffian Gold is less sparkly. Guerlain Altoum is more golden. See comparison swatches.

Sweet Succulence Lipstick ($15.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “deep glossy plum [with a Lustre finish].” It’s a purplish berry with cool undertones. It was semi-sheer, and it had a tendency to settle into lip lines and took some blending to apply evenly. It lasted three hours on me. NARS Valparaiso is brighter, more opaque, matte. NARS Afghan Red is more matte. MAC Red Dwarf is slightly pinker. MAC Positively Dashing is lighter. MAC Deliciously Forbidden is much pinker. MAC Plum Bright is purpler. Guerlain Bee is more berry-colored.

A lot of temperature fluctuations happen during shipping – especially summer. These sat on a truck in 90+ degree weather for about 12 hours before arriving to me.

These lippies are very underwhelming……….. but on a more positive note thanks a mill for the quick uploads for this collection!!!!

Feed Your Senses looks like the perfect nudey pink for my skin tone! I’ve been looking for that perfect color for ages. I hope it doesn’t sell out too quickly!

Can’t wait for you to swatch the retro matte ones! Some brazilian bloggers already did, but none of them is comparable to the quality of your swatches.

Thank you so much! I have been waiting for this! Before this post I wanted Smash Hit and Sweet Succulence and I was unsure about By Design, but now I know I for sure want Smash Hit and I might want By Design and Feed the Senses. I don’t think I want Sweet Succulence anymore. How close is it to Plumful?

I have both Plumful and Sweet Succulence, they’re not close but plumful does show up more purpley on me than it does on Christine.

I’m happy I got Sweet Succulence because it is that dark plum look I’ve always wanted, but sheer enough I can pull it off. I’d been considering trying UD Venom but probably am happy with this. UD Rapture on me is just a bit darker and more muted than plumful if that helps.

Hi Christine, just wanted to say thank you for always being so thorough. I love that I don’t have to drive to a MAC store to test these out anymore.. this collection is very boring and the pay off isn’t that great it seems.. hopefully the next collection is better! xo

none of them really sing to me, but they all seem to be pretty practical shades! i wouldn’t buy them, but if someone gave this set to me, I’d wear them happily. it took me a few looks at them to decide that they’re actually pretty nice. that red one is really pretty on you, Christine!

I was most interested in Feed the Senses but after this post I can definitely skip them all! Thanks for much for your review. Smash Hits seems terrible, eek!

Sweet Succulence stunned me in the tube but it’s SO sheer! Do you know of any lipsticks that look like it looks on the tube??

I am in awe that you can get these reviews up so fast! And you get things up early in the morning! What time do you wake up! Thanks for these reviews!

Hey Meganlisa!

It just depends – I normally get up around 7 or 8am, but because I knew I had a lot of posts and things to test today, I was up just before 6am.

The problem is you can see ALL of the disruption when you’re photographing it close-up and with a tissue or cotton swab – you get tiny little bits of it stuck in the lipstick which you can’t see with the eye, but you’ll see all over it in a photo. I have tried many times, but it really ruins the photo (even more). Especially when they’ve dried in place!

I also always wondered why Christine didn’t just wipe them until I got sweaty lipsticks recently. As far as I can tell its melted than resolidified oils and/or butters, so they can’t just be wiped away.

When they’re still wet/sweaty, you can, but it doesn’t pan out well for macro photos – you’ll see every single smear, and depending on what you use, you can get little bits of tissue or cotton swab stuck on it that you can’t see in person but will show up because the photo is enlarged.

Curious: Is sweet succulence similar to the archies’ boyfriend stealer? or not at all? I wanted sweet succulence but I just have a nagging feeling it’s like boyfriend stealer lol

Hi Christine, just a quick question… How does Just A Bite compare in colour to Russian Red? I know they are different in texture. I’m still looking for a perfect blue tone red, I’m am nc37 and Russian red still runs a little warm on me!

P.S love all your work… Have made many purchases just going by your reviews πŸ™‚

Russian Red is a bit brighter πŸ™‚ Have you tried Ruby Woo? MAC Red or Ruby Woo is where I’d go for something bluer than RR!

Thank you for your response! I’ve bought just a bite off the website and found it very dark on my pigmented lips, almost maroon! I will definitely try Ruby Woo our Mac Red next time I visit the counter… No more buying without trying for me! πŸ˜‰

Thank you Christine, shall keep an eye out for it!

Wore just a bite today… looked like the swatch you’ve put up for Nars Mascate… Looks good! Thanks for your help πŸ™‚

Fall collections are my favorite! I love the colors assoctiated with the colder months but I don’t really like this particular collection by MAC. I’m not sure what I expected though…I was really excited for Sweet Succulence but I am disappointed that it is so sheer. Thank you for posting these up so quickly! I will have to sadly pass.

Christine, what would I do without your reviews? I was going to get Feed Your Senses, but I already have Haute Altitude and didn’t even think to compare them. They’re definitely similar enough for me! Thanks!

Just a bite is so beautiful but I’m really creeped out by the texture/sweat in your picture! XD I’m guessing the ones in store would be okay.

It’s too bad By Design didn’t rate that well, it looks really beautiful. Maybe I’ll check it out anyway

I wouldn’t use it on the eye because of the glitter – there is no way of knowing whether it is safe for eyes, so I would not risk scratching the cornea as a result!

Hello Christine! What are your thoughts on Just a Bite and Deeply Adored from the Marilyn collection being similar to each other?? Would Deeply Adored be a similar comparison by chance?

Hi Christine, I was just wondering if Mac Just A Bite is darker or in the same shade as Guerlain Garconne lipstick. Just A Bite look so beautiful on you and so does Guerlain Garconne. I am saving money to buy one of this lipstick. I want to find a nice blood red shade for my NC25 Mac foundation.

Thank you Christine. I will have to find Just A Bite if they still have it at the Mac store near by or otherwise on ebay. I like it on the darker side…:-)

thanks for the review!! I found Just A Bite to be a really nice red tone although I originally intended to finally purchase Ruby Woo. I’m looking for the perfect blue red lipstick.I’m an NC25. What would you say is the best lipstick?should I wait for the Retro Matte Collection where Ruby Woo will be relaunched?

OH WOW! Last night I attended the lauching event of this collection here in Costa Rica, it was lovely πŸ™‚ I wasn’t planning on getting anything, but I just caved in and got myself the Feed the Senses lipstick. I loved this color! It reminded me of a Chanel Glossimer I regrettably passed on many years ago. I also got myself the Retro Matte lip liner in Trust in Red, which was still on display. Sadly, the lipstick was already sold out :'(
