MAC Barbecue, Oxblood, Tenor Voice, Victoriana Lipsticks Reviews, Photos, Swatches

MAC Barbecue Lipstick
MAC Barbecue Lipstick

MAC Barbecue Lipstick ($17.50 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “vivid orange red [with a Matte finish].” It’s a brightened, medium-dark orange-red with warm undertones and a satin finish. The color payoff was intense and yielded full color coverage that applied easily without dragging on the lips. It wore well for six hours, and while it wasn’t hydrating, it wasn’t drying either. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

MAC Oxblood Lipstick ($17.50 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “light peachy nude [with a Matte finish].” It’s a light-medium, peachy-brown with a hint of pink with a semi-matte finish. It had good color coverage with a lightly creamy consistency so it glided on without tugging, but it didn’t slide around once on. It was comfortable to wear and was neither drying nor hydrating, and it lasted for almost five hours, which is a little longer than average for a mid-tone shade like this. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

MAC Tenor Voice Lipstick ($17.50 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “true classic red [with a Matte finish].” It’s a rich, brightened red with very subtle cool undertones–it’s almost neutral, but I think it leans a bit blue–with a matte finish. It had full color coverage that applied smoothly and evenly without trouble. It wore well for six hours and left behind a stain, and it wasn’t drying (though not hydrating either). See comparison swatches / view dupes.

MAC Victoriana Lipstick ($17.50 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “mid-tone pink red [with a Matte finish].” It’s a slightly muted (relative to the rest, really) pinky-red with cool undertones and a matte finish. The consistency is lightly creamy, which made it apply evenly for smooth, even color application. It was intensely pigmented and lasted for six hours without being drying. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

I’m so fed up with MAC and their monthly limited edition releases, everything looks the same, I wish they would just concentrate on limited projects and come up with something exciting or even worthwhile.
I do enjoy your posts and the effort that you put into every post regardless.

Oxblood, while grossly misnamed, is definitely going on my shopping list. They are all very beautiful colors but I feel like I already have a ton of red lipsticks so I’m going to hold back on those.

Sarah Avatar

Thank you SO MUCH for this review and also for your Dupe machine. I am trying to decide between Barbecue and MAC Lady Danger. Hnnnghhhh I can’t make a decision! I know that LD is permanent so I could go back for it anytime, but I don’t want to buy two near-identical colors. I’m not sure which I would like more. I am NC25. I really love mattes because sometimes I find bright satins move around outside of my lips. BUT your description of bbq (lol such a weird name) confirms that it probably will stay put. Gah! 🙂

(I used the Dupe machine for MAC Relentlessly Red vs. Victoriana and I definitely prefer RR. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!)

I think I might just have to pick up Victoriana! It’s a sort of pink/red that is really interesting to me. I’m so glad this collection turned out so well.

Christine Avatar

Very nice lipsticks this time around but MAC isn’t releasing any unique shades with this set. With a name like Barbecue I was expecting a molasses or charred pepper color. Or I’m just hungry.

Lauren Avatar

Tenor Voice is just too dupe-able for me, especially considering I already own MAC Kinky. I love Oxblood but sounds like everyone is going to be after it as well! I was all excited for these and I’m happy to hear they perform well but I might be picking up some of the blushes or shadows from this collection instead.

I wish my grades would look like that after finals 😛

Nice to see Mac putting out quality products again. Pretty colors + a good formula??? A girl couldn’t ask for more!!

MelanieT Avatar

Ooo, Barbecue reminds me of my all time favorite red, Sail la Vie! I may need to pick it up! My two tubes of Sail la Vie are getting low! lol

Brenda Avatar

Love the last 3 on you!! I thought I would love Barbeque but something seems a bit off – maybe it looks a bit to orange on my monitor. I loved the back story behind Isabel’s different iterations of red lips 🙂 I have more interest in this collection because THEY are more interesting to me!! 🙂

Woooo will be getting all of them as well as 2 lip glasses. It just strikes me as funny that opera and tenor voice are dupes for each other haha.

Just one question, button is way too pasty / light / bright for my skin tone, hence is oxblood deeper or just as light? I was initially set on it but the moment I saw button on the dupe list I’m like ermmmmn.

Nicole Avatar

It is really nice to see an A rating on an affordable lipstick! I hope Mac continues to produce more of these. I love all of these shades. I probably have a dupe or two for each. I am not sure if I will get any or not. Need to check my unorganized stash for possible dupes. I am guessing i have more of the reds than the others. But, upon looks, I am thinking Oxblood and Barbecue will be likely suspects for me. Those are the lipglasses I liked to because of the ratings factor. I have only a handful of Mac’s lipsticks. Hard to pas up a nice lipstick at a good price. I see these and a 9/10 score and wonder what it is that makes Nars audacious or a Guerlain Rouge G better? Just out of curiosity..I have been debating on buying a Rouge G .It would be a sight un-seen purchase for me. Just swatches and Christine’s lips! Are they worth $51..why? I love just about everything Guerlain. So,it’s not a hard sell. Thanks for the review Christine!

Nicole Avatar

oh..all mattes..harder for me to dupe in my messy drawer!I So are the dupes in the dupe list all matte too Christine? I may try to pick these up If I can. But , if not it’s nice to know you have alternates that are permanent ready for us..u da bomb!

Sarah Avatar

Welp, I’m in trouble! I was hoping some of these might turn out to be rubbish, but I kind of want them all (except perhaps barring Oxblood, which might be too nude for my liking). MAC seems to be releasing a new collection every month or so, and I wish a little that I’d take some time out to manufacture something… I don’t know… different from all the reds and mattes I’m seeing. I feel like the Toledo collection is one of the more exiting ones I’ve seen in a while.

Alana Avatar

Barbecue is nice and I was thinking of getting it because the lipglass version of it was coral (I LOVE the way corals look on my NC20 skin and cant get enough of them!) but it looks like such a standard orange red in lipstick version that I’m losing feelings for it. Does the lipstick packaging in this collection feel cheap btw? I’ve heard people say in previous collections that the cap isnt as sturdy as the regular MAC packaging is.

Fran Avatar

I’m glad they did the lipsticks well! I quite like the look of Victoriana, and pink reds nearly always look great on me. I like Tenor Voice, too, but it looks like it would be quite similar to Clinique Soft Matte lipstick in Matte Crimson, which I already have… so, while it would be fun to pull out that great packaging, I don’t think I can really justify the cost, when there are so many other things I want. Barbecue would be great if I was in need of an orange red — but orange-pinks look much better on me than orange-reds do.

Sylirael Avatar

Victoriana is my favourite of these shades (and it is very pretty), but really the only thing that’s keeping me awake over all these repetitive reds is the mild annoyance over the whole ‘Oxblood’ naming thing. 😛

That all sounds quite harsh now that I re-read it, LOL! It wasn’t meant to be, but really…more reds?!

Linda Avatar

Do I NEED these? No. Do I WANT these? Well, given I’m passionate about opera and am a Metropolitan Opera subscriber, guess which shades I’m buying. 😉 And I carry a tote with my binoculars (because I’m way up in Family Circle) and (unwrapped) candies and a makeup case; Opera and Tenor Voice will be stashed in the makeup case so I have always have the appropriate lippies.

Trish Avatar

These all look fab on you Christine! Was gonna order Oxblood sight unseen but SO GLAD I waited to see your dupes. I have Tom Ford’s First Time-& it’s not a good look on me. Must be my dark pigmented lips. Maybe need a primer? So pass on that but the other 3 are beautiful! Thks for the review 🙂

Jane Avatar

Oh MAC… when one of the dupes for Tenor Voice is another lipstick in the same collection (Opera), it’s time to back away from the slightly blue-leaning reds…

(that said, I really want Victoriana…)

BB Avatar

Thanks for these swatches! Do you think you could tag these under Isabel Toledo (or have it show up under the launch)? I had a hard time finding the reviews on the actual products! Appreciate your hard work!

zFashionizta Avatar

Mine finally arrived today and I am happy that the lip glass oxblood is not a dupe for MAC Bijou. Love the design of the packaging what I don’t like is that the texture of the packaging is similar to NARS products which means it will get dirty easily.

PoshPearl Avatar

These are all great colors! I’m debating between Victoriana and Damn Glamorous. How similar/different are they? How similar/different is Barbeque from Lady Danger? Thanks!

Farin Ahmed Avatar

Hello.. I am really confused between Opera and Tenor Voice.. I am looking for a bright red lipstick like that one actresses wear in theater at Opera.. I thought Opera would be the brightest as the name suggests but someone just told me Tenor Voice is more bright.. Please help me out.. I am NC 30 (South Asian) ..recently got tanned and have pigmented lips ..thanks

Tenea Avatar

First Ms. Temptalia, I am a Google queen and your page is my go-to for all things makeup. Thanks for always being on top of these releases. I just got barbeque today and I realized I got mangrove last year. I really can’t tell much of a difference between the two and they’re both matte.
