MAC At Dusk Extra Dimension Blush Review, Photos, Swatches

MAC At Dusk Extra Dimension Blush
MAC At Dusk Extra Dimension Blush

MAC At Dusk Extra Dimension Blush ($25.00 for 0.22 oz.) is described as a “mid-tone rose.” It’s a pale, light-medium pink with mostly neutral undertones (it almost has a gray cast) and pale gold shimmer. Bobbi Brown Lilac Rose is more frosted. MAC Stay Pretty is cooler-toned. Illamasqua Naked Rose is pinker and matte. MAC Rosy Outlook is lighter and has no golden shimmer.

If you’ve ever felt like the Extra Dimension Skinfinishes were too shimmery, frosted, or metallic (or else over-the-top), you may appreciate the Extra Dimension Blush formula, which is much, much subtler. The finish is much more like a satin or pearl. At Dusk has good pigmentation, and it is mostly true-to-pan; but by virtue of its coloring, will naturally lend itself to paler complexions. On my medium skin tone (NC25/NC30), it shows up lightly, but I need to layer the color to get it there–and it will work as a subtle, everyday kind of shade on medium skin tones. The texture was soft, finely-milled, and the more you buffed the product into the skin, the prettier the sheen became (more glowing than shimmery). This was the first blush I tested yesterday, and it lasted seven hours but was slightly faded after eight.

I think this could work really well on me, but it is reminding me a bit of Illamasqua Naked Rose in the pan. Okay, I just scrolled up to actually READ the dupes and you’ve got the info right there 🙂 Grey cast..methinks I will probably pass.

You’d think a shade like this would be more common, but this is the closest I’ve seen to what I’m looking for. However, I’m not looking forward to trying to get ahold of it…

Illamasqua Naked Rose is really nice, Amy, but matte. It’s one of my staples. The swatch on Illamasqua is totally off and looks brown. I’m positive Christine has reviewed this one. I think it doesn’t have the slight hint of light plum this one does..on my screen anyway.

I compared it to the Illamasqua swatch, and while I do see the similarities, I like the bit of grey in this one. On my screen, this looks *exactly* like what I’ve envisioned, but I really want to swatch it on myself before I commit. I believe this launches at counters on the 11th, and I’ll be passing a Macy’s that day, so *hopefully* this will still be available… I’m so picky when it comes to blush; I have so many that have been used a few times, and while they do “work” for me, they’re not quite what I want, so I don’t bother, LOL.

I have seen comments referring to a waxy type layer over the product that limits the pigment initially until it is buffed away. Did you experience anything like this? Thanks!

It might be a harder top layer from the pressing processes. I noticed this on all these formulas wehather it the skin finish or the eyeshadows to be a little stiff at first from the finish layer.

I’d probably opt for something more different than super similar – what is different (primarily) is the finish, as this will give you a bit of a sheen. There are two schools of thought (at least): if you wear Naked Rose all the time, maybe you’d want a satiny version of it since you clearly wear it a lot! or if you’re building up your stash, better to have variety in color. You can always add a little highlighter over Naked Rose to get some shimmer/sheen.

I think I’d rather get Illamasqua Naked Rose – it’s probably going to be more accessible for one, and I like its color a bit more.

I’m an NW15-20…how would it show up on me? I’m currently using MAC’s Pink Cult (L.E.-bought several!!!)how does it compare in tone and intensity? I know this new product is obviously shinier…

Interesting! Blushes look more coral on me than they do in the pan, so this neutral/almost gray might give me a better pink.

I’m so surprised, but I really like this!! I’ve been looking for a blush like this for quite a while, and they are really hard to come by. Now it’s just a case of figuring out if I want enough product to justify shipping to Australia!

Art Deco (german brand) released this ‘extra dimensional’ blushes and eyeshadows way back in late 2011 early 2012, with the exact seawave shape going on. Even the texture is the same. Although the price was lower, go figure.

Worked in 1986 at the main store in Toronto, when the 2 Franks still owned it. The MAC store was a hair salon and a makeup retail store. Had a blast. Sven was kinda like the 3rd partner. He was the head of the hair salon. Sad that one of the Frank’s past. Those two men were amazing……………..Peace.

Christine, I have light skin w a lot of redness on my cheeks, and it’s difficult for me to have blush show it’s actual pan colour, as most pink/coral shades just seem to accentuate and add to the redness. I really like this dusty pale rose colour but since the EDBs are of a different formula than the usual “powder” blushes.. do you think the colour will show? Would it be too translucent? am i just better off choosing something w more of a “white powder base” to mask the redness? thanks 🙂

Hi Talia, was wondering if this blush ‘at dusk’ is similar to ‘pink cult’ blush? Thanks!! Just don’t want to go buying it if its really similar to pink cult

Hi Christine.. I bought all the extra dimension SF and the flaming chic. Thinking of restocking on one more of the flaming chic, plus another blush from there line. Which ones stood out to you and which 2 were your favorite blushes from this line. I’m the same skin tone as you, and I cant decided between bareness, at dusk, blazing haute.
