MAC Artificially Wild Lipglasses Reviews, Photos, Swatches
MAC Artificially Wild Lipglass
There are four shades of MAC Lipglass ($16.00 for 0.17 fl. oz.) featured in the upcoming Artificially Wild collection, which releases online on August 28th and in-stores on September 4th. Two are permanent.
MAC De-Nude Lipglass ($16.00 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is described as a “dirty golden beige.” It’s a muted, light-medium, yellowed, orange-beige with a soft pearly shimmer. It had mostly opaque pigmentation that went on evenly with only a little bit of settling into lip lines. I didn’t feel like the settling was noticeable from a normal viewing distance. This shade wore well for four and a half hours on me. I went through orange, copper, brown, beige, gold, and yellow lipglosses and the only shade that was remotely similar was Maybelline Glistening Amber (055) (P, $8.99), but it is much sheerer so it looks a lot different applied. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
MAC Explicit Lipglass ($16.00 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is described as a “golden bronze with icy silver shimmer.” It’s a medium-dark brown with taupe and bronze shimmer. It has semi-sheer color coverage–mostly in the form of shimmer and sparkle–with a high gloss finish. It wore for four hours on me. It is a permanent shade. MAC Deliciously Demure (LE, $15.00) is less sparkly. Bobbi Brown Beach (P, $24.00) is slightly darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
MAC Obviously Bare Lipglass ($16.00 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is described as a “light cream grey nude.” It’s a cool-toned, light taupe with subtle pearl. It had semi-opaque pigmentation, so it noticeably changes the lip color, but it does allow some of the natural color to come through. It settled slightly into lip lines (and worsened over time), but it was fairly even for such a light, creamy gloss. It lasted for three hours on me. Maybelline Sandy Sensation (115) (LE) is warmer, sheerer. MAC Softly Lit (LE, $20.00) is warmer. NARS Spring Break (P, $26.00) is lighter. MAC Orange Tempera (LE, $15.00) is pinker. MAC Emancipation (LE, $15.00) is cooler-toned, less beige. MAC C-Thru (P, $15.00) is warmer. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
MAC Spite Lipglass ($16.00 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is described as a “muted plum taupe brown.” It’s a plummy brown with subtle, warm undertones and a creamy, glossy finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that went on fairly evenly and smoothly without gathering too much into lip lines (a little but not enough that it’s really noticeable from a normal viewing distance). It wore well for four hours on me. It is a permanent shade. Buxom Dolly (LE, $21.00) is cooler-toned, sheerer. Marc Jacobs Beauty Satisfaction (214) (P, $28.00) is warmer, shimmery. Maybelline Charming Cocoa (125) (LE) is warmer. Giorgio Armani #524 (P, $29.00) is cooler-toned. Urban Decay Wallflower (P, $19.00) is darker, cooler-toned. MAC Show Me (P, $19.50) is darker. Bobbi Brown Pink Cocoa (P, $24.00) is more shimmery, darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Not really feeling these. Maybe as layering options they’d be better than stand alone though.
I think Obviously Bare could be an interesting way to mute other lipsticks, though I’m not as keen on using Lipglass that opaque since it is thicker.
Spite and Obviously Bare are on my list
Yay!
I don’t mind Explicit and Spite (that sounds so funny…) but De-Nude and the yellow Simpsons collection gloss are not to my taste at all.
Well, at least there are a few you like!
Those are my faves. For some reason, I’m liking this collection, even if a number of the shades would not work for me. It is refreshing to see something that is not neon pink for a change. It is very retro/nineties, but more interesting than the shades back then. The browns have more life to them.
Shades in your first line is spelt nshades.
I like the glosses better than the lipsticks in this collection….but I’m so waiting for the holiday options coming up right now I need a little more to bite.
They look pretty on you…
Fixed! Thanks!
It’s nice to know that Spite is a permanent shade, didn’t know that. If more of the grey in Explicit came through, I’d totally get it, just because it would be an interesting colour to have. 🙂
It gets grayer if you layer it over Icon 😀
The last two are just gorgeous! I hope this collection gets overshadowed by the Marge Simpson one, so I can actually nab a few things!
Haha!
I like Explicit, but it’s permanent..so I could wait.
True!
Not a big fan of these shades. Spite seems most wearable to me.
Explicit is a really fun shade to layer with!
Wow.. I love all of these, and they look great on you Christine. I’ve never owned a Mac product before but these are really tempting me. I love a nude or light lip look.
I love that you review such a wide range of products – I always look forward to new posts!
Thank you so much, Amy! 😀
I love a nude lip, but these are not doing it for me.
I’m kind of all over Explicit layered over Icon right now, but maybe it’s because I wasn’t of makeup-wearing-age in the 90s.
I can see how that would work..especially with your complexion. I wore brown everything for far too long in the 90’s. Just watching reruns of Seinfeld and checking out Elaine’s makeup always makes me grin. Oh and Explicit reminds me of a warmer/bronzier version of the MAC Pedro Lourenco glosses which I actually really like.. both the silver and the gold.
I have been noticing Elaine’s makeup–we’re actually watching Seinfeld all the way through (I’ve only seen episodes here and there but definitely not all) 😉
Spite looks so gorgeous!!!
Thanks a lot for the thorough reviews!
No problem, Liesbeth!
Nope, not good.
Bummer!
I think spite is my favorite. It’s a bit different from a standard nude and I like that.
Glad you liked it!
Hmm, looking at the swatches make me sleepy. I’ll pass lol
On to the next!
Is Lust lipgloss darker and browner than Spite? I may be misremembering the color of Lust since it was my first Lipglass and I’m sure it was turned in for Back 2 Mac ages ago. 🙂
Lust is brighter and lighter! 🙂 Warmer.
I really like the effect of Explicit, I think it would be great for a unique wintery look, maybe applied over a lipstick. But the others I’m not really feeling… I like how unique they are though!
It is AWESOME over Icon!
You just confirmed it to me, I must buy that lip combo 🙂
Does Explicit have any similarity to the recently released LE Mirror or Gold Mirror?
Kind of like Mirror but not quite. Definitely darker, less silvered.
Obviously Bare looks lovely on you but I am much paler and I think I will look more like a zombie!
Thank you, Jo!
Explicit is beautiful! The rest are ok, but not my thing.
Explicit is such a cool, unique shade.
Wow at the sparkle in Explicit! 😀 I think my favourite of these on you has got to be Spite though. The De-nude one looks like a tricky colour and formula to pull off for many skintones!
I could see De-nude being a little harder to wear!
I think Explicit is too similar to Mirror from Pedro Lourenço for me to justify buying it, and I could achieve the effect of Obviously Bare with OCC’s Sebastian + slightly shimmery gloss.
There are some similarities!
Very interesting colors, but I don’t think any of them would go with my pasty-white-but-also-yellow-toned skin.
Explicit 😉
I really like Explicit and Obviously Bare. I might have to pass on the latter if it settles into lip lines as you say, but I’m glad to see Explicit is permanent. May have to give it a look sometime.
Explicit is *so* cool!
I am loving Explicit!! Its such a unique shade!
Agreed!
I do want three out of the four. I always go for bolder colours so I don’t know what’s wrong with me at the moment. The one I don’t like, for myself is De-Nude. I don’t think I’d pull it off, though I would like to 🙂
Haha! 😉 Maybe it’s just a little reprieve – a break between all the brights!
Wow! I’m totally feeling these. Obviously Bare would look fabulous layered over OCC’s Sebastian! 🙂
Very true!
Spite is my favorite here! I love plummy-nudes, if that’s even a thing. I’m wondering when this collection will go live on mac’s website. Midnight PST? There are a few things I’d really like to have from this release. Thanks again for the great swatches.
Spite is permanent, so you could buy it right now if you desired!
