MAC Alluring Aquatic Nail Lacquers Reviews, Photos, Swatches
MAC Neptune Nail Lacquer
MAC Neptune Nail Lacquer ($17.50 for 0.34 fl. oz.) is described as a “tarnished gold.” It’s a medium-dark, frosted aged gold with yellowy undertones and a green-ish/brown sheen. It reminded me a lot of MAC’s Old Gold pigment in nail polish form. It had fully opaque color in two coats, and it applied evenly and had very minimal brush strokes. Revlon Rose Gold (LE, $8.49) is much more muted. MAC Immortal Gold (LE, $16.00) is cooler-toned. ORLY Flare (P, $5.00) has larger shimmer, different finish. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
MAC Shimmerfish Nail Lacquer ($17.50 for 0.34 fl. oz.) is described as a “sparkling aluminum.” It’s an almost warm-toned silver with copper flecks of sparkle. It had a very metallic, high-shine finish that was reflective and satin at the dry down. It had full color coverage with two coats of polish, and it applied evenly and didn’t pool along the edges. The visible brush strokes were very minimal, which was a surprise. MAC Sinfully Sweet (LE, $16.00) has a yellower base. Zoya Jules (P, $9.00) is warmer, darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
MAC Submerged Nail Lacquer ($17.50 for 0.34 fl. oz.) is described as a “dark teal chrome.” It’s a medium-dark, navy blue with a teal micro-shimmer and flash. This one didn’t apply as nicely as the other two, as there were visible brush strokes and some unevenness, though the color coverage was opaque after two coats. Color Club First Looks (P) is much darker. China Glaze Deviantly Daring (LE, $7.50) is darker, more teal. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Isn’t Neptune a bit like Chanel’s Peridot? not.. its lacks that green dual tone.. but so pretty! Colors like this I can totally see myself wearing.. tan or no tan! 😀
I agree – Peridot is definitely a truer duochrome – Neptune almost seems like one but not really!
oh my! how pretty is Neptune.. and Submerged is totally stunning! <3
They’re nice!
Sally Hansen’s gilty party is a good dupe for shimmerfish. Same metallic finish and same color almost. Lovely color!
Thanks, Siva!
Good to know–thanks, Siva!
Anyone else go, “That’s not Sailor Neptune’s colour!!!” when seeing the Neptune shade?
I kept thinking of the sea, so I expected it to be blue, lol!
Shimmerfish is gorgeous!
It’s really fun! 🙂
Shimmerfish reminds me of the OPI Muppets collection polish. I think it was called Designer De Better
Thank you!
I have bought Submerged and there was no problem with streakiness. Also stays on longer than any other nail polish that I have. I love it! 🙂
So glad you love yours, Magda!
Neptune and Shimmerfish are so pretty!
Agreed!
All three are pretty, but nothing is striking enough for me to pay $17.50 for. And I wanted to love one of these just so I could buy one for the packaging and tell myself at least I would wear it!
MAC’s polish is pretty pricey, so it’s tough to justify unless they’re really interesting!
OPI’s Designer DeBetter would be a great dupe for Shimmerfish! I want to buy something from the collection just for the packaging but I’m not impressed with any of the shades.
Thanks for sharing, Bethaney!!
Ahh, it’s a shame submerged isn’t as even as the others – it’s definitely my favourite shade of the three! 😀
Not too noticeable from a normal viewing distance but still annoyng!
Neptune is my color for sure 🙂
Yay!
Submerged is fantastic!
I like how it shifts!
Ooh, Shimmerfish and Submerged are pretty!
They are!
Submerged is the only colour I like but the lower rating makes me hesitant. Shimmerfish reminds me of the cheap, frosted nail polishes from Revlon and from the displays at Kresge’s and Woolworth’s when I was a kid….just sort of garish and dated looking.
I feel like other brands must have something like Submerged… it is pretty, but it can’t be that uncommon!
These are all gorgeous! It’s nice to see that the MAC polishes have gotten a little better. I used to love them way back in the day.
I think as long as they stay from their peaches and beiges, they aren’t so bad, lol!
I like all three.
I think I must go through my polishes to see what I have that might be dupes for these, if I don’t have any I must hurry to the MAC counter to buy more from this collection. I do think this is the best collection from them for quite some time. I really like most of what I’ve seen.
Hopefully you have a dupe or two!
Neptune reminds me of Butter London’s Wallis, although Wallis may be a little bit more green to it. Shimmerfish looks like OPI’s Designer de Better. I think Sally Hansen may have done a color like this in her holiday series.
Thanks for the rec!
I think BL Wallis is indeed much greener, but the concept is similar. I really adore Shimmerfish – I am crazy for metallics like that with bits of gold or copper flakes. I think it looks gorgeous …picked a bottle up today!!
