MAC Ablaze Lipstick Review, Photos, Swatches

MAC Ablaze Lipstick
MAC Ablaze Lipstick

MAC Ablaze Lipstick ($15.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “bright apricot cream.” It’s a medium-dark coral-red with a barely-there sheen (not quite a flat matte). I actually think it looks very much like MAC Lady at Play, and if there was any detectable difference, it would be that Lady at Play is ever-so-slightly lighter (and of course, it has a more luminous finish). Guerlain Nahema is pinker, more subdued, shimmery. MAC Watch Me Simmer is pinker. MAC Hibiscus is redder, darker, shimmery. Wet ‘n’ Wild #909D is slightly darker. MAC Toxic Tale is a smidgen darker but very similar.

It’s bold and bright but not neon–there is a lightness to it. Ablaze had rich, opaque color coverage. Though it’s technically a matte finish, it felt more like a satin or amplified creme finish–creamy without being thick or slick, so it applied evenly, smoothly, and didn’t tug or pull at the lips. I tested this one first thing, and it lasted five hours well and did leave a very subtle reddish stain behind. It was, unfortunately, a bit drying but not terribly so.

This is such a gorgeous color! I love it without the lipgloss (which made it intense and more similar to other lipsticks that I’ve seen.)

The lipstick looks very similar to Maybelline ColorSensational lipstick in Coral Crush (which I found to be quite similar colorwise to Lady at Play in a hand swatch, at least.)

This is so gorgeous! I might get it, but do you know how it compares to MAC’s Everhip that came out with the Liberty of London collection?

This is one of those colors that I love on other people. Unfortunately, I don’t think I’d like the way this would look on my olive skin. Hm. Maybe I’ll try out Lady at Play. That way I can see what it will look like against my skintone but I won’t have to fight anyone for it! 🙂

This set looks sooo pretty on you, Christine! My reflex is to buy it, but I’m thinking I would be more inclined to picking up Lady at Play. I like the mineralize formula quite a bit, and even better, it’s permanent ^o^

I bought this today sight unseen which is rare for me. But I like MAC’s matte after realizing the 20 plus year matte lipstick which I still own did not go rancid on me. I like Lady at Play…glad I got this because Lady at Play cost more. Please keep the lipstick reviews going. Thanks. Christine.

So happy I ordered this! Yay! It’s exactly what I hoped it would be! At least I pray it fits me well in real life when it comes in.

Gorgeous!

Is Ablaze similar to Coral Chic?
I just bought that tube, but this one is so pretty. Must know if I should just save for a different color.

This is so gorgeous! I’m in love with the matte finish. I have the wet ‘n wild one, and it’s a bit redder but it sorta looks the same! It’s very flattering on you. 🙂

Christine, how do you find Ablaze compares to MAC’s Lady Danger or So Chaud? Is the one you would recommend? I want to get an orange/red/coral colour for the spring/summer, but it’s so hard to choose!

WOW I am in love with this color.. I walked into MAC not really wanting anything but then I saw Ablaze. It is so fiery, literally just bright and fun.. I love Matte lippies bc in my mind they are retro, cool and quite chic.. This is my first LE lipstick and I would feel incomplete all summer if I did not have it.. Btw this is my first comment on your blog so I am feeling extra passionate about this lippie haha.

Overall Ablaze will be the theme of this season for me 🙂

Thank you so much for your in depth review. I was excited for this color after seeing it in W magazine. The store near my house was sold ot immediatly and this was the only place I could “test it out” .Thank you for all the different shots, I really feel like like I was trying it on myself!
