Liquid Lipsticks Over $15 | 2019 Editor's Favorites

As I mentioned in the previous best of post featuring my favorite liquid lipsticks under $15… there weren’t nearly as many liquid lipsticks reviewed in 2019 as there were in prior years, which I think reflects a trend away from liquid lipstick, generally, though there are still plenty of liquid lipstick ranges available–there’s just been less added to the existing pool.  Giorgio Armani Lip Maestro, which is one of my all-time favorite lipstick formulas, saw the addition of several shades that were more neutral- and earth-toned.  I also finally managed to try and review Bobbi Brown’s Crushed Liquid Lipstick, which is another not-matte liquid lipstick (more like a lipstick/lipgloss hybrid really).

If you’re unfamiliar with how I like to do my year-end favorites, here’s the low down: I pull from the products I reviewed in 2019, regardless of whether they were new, limited edition, or an established range I’ve only just gotten around to reviewing. These are personal favorites, so they may or may not be the highest rated products reviewed during the year (though they will tend to be better rated, naturally!). (You can check out best of 2018 if you missed it.)

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

What do you look for in a liquid lipstick?
It can’t dry out my lips or crack. I also like ones that can be removed with a napkin. I prefer formulas like Dose of Colors, Sugarpill, or OFRA. I also like the creamy matte formula from NABLA.

When do you prefer a liquid lipstick formula?
I like matte lips the best so any time my lips aren’t feeling too dry. I’d like to wear them more often.

Are any liquid lipsticks on your wish list for 2020?
I’d like to try NABLA’s dreamy matte liquid lips, and get a couple more of their creamy mattes.

What do you look for in a liquid lipstick? — Hydration, pigmentation, and smoothness, not settling into lip lines. Bite Beauty’s Amuse Bouche Liquid Lipsticks were among my favorite.

When do you prefer a liquid lipstick formula?– It used to be when I wanted max staying power (think Stila Liquid Lipsticks), but now I use liquid lipsticks like I use bullet cream lipsticks!

Are any liquid lipsticks on your wish list for 2020? — The Giorgio Armani and Bobbi Brown liquid lips are still on my to-try list.. but honestly I have so many lipsticks to get through (including from the recent Bite Beauty’s mega-clearance) that I’ll probably hold off unless there’s a very unique shade.

I’m not surprised that you had less liquid lipsticks to review. They just don’t wear well throughout the day. They may last long, but in the worst possible slightly deranged looking way. The only way I can get it to work, is if it matches my natural lip so when it wears off (usually in the centre, rather then edges) its not obvious. I think consumer’s realise this, and makeup companies are seeing it reflected in their sales. I wouldn’t mind trying on in store the Bobbi Brown formula, because that doesn’t seem to be a true liquid lipstick.

What do you look for in a liquid lipstick? NON-DRYING. To the point of my preferring *liquified* formulas over the traditional dry-down ones.

When do you prefer a liquid lipstick formula? If I need to get extreme lasting power with minimal touchups. Thankfully, that’s a rarity!

Are any liquid lipsticks on your wish list for 2020? GA Acajou and BB In A Jam. Neither one is a dry-down formula.

What do you look for in a liquid lipstick? A great color and finish. A good formula: Not too thin, watery, or prone to bleeding; doesn’t peel or crack when drying or dried; either fully pigmented or buildable. It has to be comfortable to wear and not dry out my lips (luckily, usually not a problem for me). That is doesn’t have cinnamon oil, which makes my lips itch. None of the following scents: Artificial cherry, artificial grape, artificial “baby aspirin” orange, coffee/mocha, or strong fake cotton candy scent (literally makes me nauseous).

When do you prefer a liquid lipstick formula? 1) In summer, so I don’t have to worry about bullets melting in my purse. 2) For rare occasions when I know I won’t have much of an opportunity to touch up.

Are any liquid lipsticks on your wish list for 2020? Fenty Stunna Lip Pain in Unattached
