Laura Mercier Holiday 2014 Artist Palette for Eyes & Cheeks ($58.00 for 0.48 oz.) includes eight eyeshadows and one cheek color. The eyeshadows lean slightly cool-toned overall, but the cheek color is really warm, and I felt like it didn’t complement the eyeshadows well. Nearly all of the eyeshadows in the palette were slightly powdery, with the more shimmery shades having a dry, powdery consistency, whereas the mattes were silky and soft and a wee bit powdery (but better than stiff). Most of the eyeshadows lasted for eight hours, while the blush wore well for seven and a half hours on me. This palette is exclusive to Sephora.

Rosegold Shimmer is a light-medium, orange-brown with a golden shimmer-sheen. It had decent color payoff with a fairly soft texture that was blendable. It lasted for seven and a half hours on me. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Vanilla Nuts is a light beige with subtle, neutral-to-warm undertones and a matte finish. It had good pigmentation and was only slightly powdery. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Stone Taupe is a dark, taupe brown with a matte finish. It had good color payoff with a soft, silky consistency that was a smidgen powdery. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Pewter is a murky, muted, dark green with strong brown tones and a satin finish. It had semi-opaque color payoff with a soft but powdery texture. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Deep Night is a deepened, navy blue with a muted quality and a matte finish. The pigmentation was mostly opaque, while the powder felt soft, smooth, and silky. It’s soft enough that it is messy to apply, so I’d recommend doing eyes first if you use this shade. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Topaz is a muted, medium brown with a hint of gray and a frosted sheen. It had a drier, dusty consistency that made it harder to apply and get true-to-pan color. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Morning Dew is a white-beige with subtle, cool undertones and a matte finish. It is very soft and almost chalky as a result, but it will depend on skin tone on just how chalky it ends up looking on the skin. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Cashmere is a rosy mauve with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. The color coverage was opaque with a soft, blendable consistency that was easy to use and wasn’t too powdery. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Crystal Beige is a muted, medium-dark bronze brown with warm undertones and a frosted, metallic finish. This shade had nice color payoff, but the texture was drier and a little dusty to work with, which gave it a faded look applied. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

While none of the shades are particularly exciting, they would make a nice, usable travel palette, except for the inclusion of that warm Rose Gold Shimmer blush which throws the whole palette off. Why, I wonder did they not put a cool or neutral toned blush instead. It does look pretty on you.

Lotus Avatar

I believe it’s meant as a topper of holiday shimmer! That’s what I understood, but whatever it is, I’m sure it can go on eyes, lips, and blend with other colors well! Rose gold has been a theme.. I’m glad it’s not a Laguna bronzer!

meganlisa Avatar

I, like many, wasn’t thrilled with the big bronzer in the middle of this. So I’m skipping…but I’m glad to see your review so I can feel like I’m not missing any must have.
I did take your advice and got the Caviar sticks set from Nordstrom at 10% off. I absolutely love it! You were right! Thanks!

Angel Avatar

Yes, I got the eye sticks, too, and am loving them. Cream shadows are new for me, and I’m not v. good with application. The sticks are easy peasy, tho 🙂

The rosegold shimmer is a wild card, but you look gorgeous in it. So much that I’m definitely going to do a test swipe next time I’m @ Nordstrom….see if it will do the same for me :)!

I love this palette, based on the colors. I even don’t mind the warm cheek tone and the cool shadows, as that’s what I often wear due to my warm skintone but preference for cool shadows (sometimes warm shadows on warm skintone just looks too ruddy). I wish the shimmers were of better quality, though. The navy looks great, though. It’s sometimes tough to find a good navy, these days!

Genevieve Avatar

I am a big navy fan Phoebe, and the best one I have is the Shiseido Snow Shadow trio palette. It is comprised a really lovely navy, a smoky grey and a white. I use it all the time and it never disappoints. Excellent colour, pigmentation etc. Because you are only getting 3 shadows it is not as expensive as the multi coloured palettes where you are paying for colours you don’t like/use.

Staci Avatar

This seems expensive to me for what you get. I think of this brand as being in line with Too Faced or Tarte. The other brands holiday offerings give you so much more product for the money.

Sunny Avatar

For the past couple of years, I almost broke my “no big palette” rule for the Artist Palettes (because I never use mine enough). This year, I think I can safely skip without feeling like I’m missing something. I’m not sure what it is about this one that doesn’t speak to me. Maybe it’s the fact that all eyeshadows lean kinda cool, or maybe it’s that cheek color.

Helene Avatar

I would have thought a palette from LM would get at least “A” for every included shadow. I kind of like this, but I’ll pass. I do really like the blush, and I quite often use a warm blush with cool eyeshadows, or the other way around. It looked fantastic on you.
I love Cashmere, if Pewter had been anything like L’Oreal Gilded Envy I would have really liked this palette. Pewter looked as it should be really good, A pity.

Lotus Avatar

This and the parisienne are my favorites this holiday! This reminds me of my favorite palette I used in the 90’s and have not yet found all pieces together in a palette again, so I’m excited for this! Thank you for your trusty review and swatches! You helped me make a decision! 😛

Lotus Avatar

Oh, I forgot to mention that you look SO bright and softly beautiful! Ethereal lighting effects on your face is just lovely! Fresh and refreshing! 🙂 Yay!

Fran Avatar

This is crazy — I have singles of Morning Dew, Cashmere, and Pewter, and I have Vanilla Nuts and Deep Night in an Artist Palette from two years ago! The single of Pewter is gorgeous, by the way — maybe a little bit powdery, but otherwise easy to work with and very pretty. Interesting, because often this brand seems to at least put the same quality into their holiday palettes as into their singles. I’m looking at the Into The Wild Book Collection, there are more colors that I don’t have in that one, but I’m concerned about whether the quality will be as good as usual. I’m also wondering about the Viseart palette in Bridal Satin. It’s easier to find reviews of their Neutral Matte palette, but it looks warmer than I tend to like. Maybe I’ll stick to MUFE this holiday season — I know I love their shadows!

Christine Avatar

Yeah, Laura Mercier’s mattes are really silky and smooth, but sometimes a wee bit powdery — it’s a very fine balance between soft + silky vs. powdery. I would rather have slightly powdery than slightly stiff, of course 😉

I don’t have any of the other sets from the holiday collection – the Wild Book was large enough that I wasn’t sure I could get to it in time! I might get it during the sale, but we’ll see…

This is a nice palette, but I’ll get only DEEP NIGHT. I’m really loving it and very glad to know that it is permanent.

BOTTÂNICA BOTTANIQUE Avatar

I have only African Violet and absolutely loooove it! I didn’t manage to purchase Laura Mercier Artist’s Palette for Eyes, so I had to content myself with getting African Violet. But I am entirely satisfied with buying single eyeshadows with higher quality (carefully selected by me, taking into account colors/finishes more unique itselves or within my stash) instead of palettes (obviously, there are exceptions). Because I’m sure I’ll use each one of them. Can’t wait to try Deep Night.

The shadows look ok ( nothing too exciting but they all look very wearable), but the orangey warm blush kills it for me. It clashes with my skintone and the shadows. A neutral beige pink would’ve made more sense. It looks like they jumped on the orange bandwagon and just threw it in there.

Lisa Avatar

Thank you for the great review. The rose gold shimmer looks amazing on you! In the pan I confess I was unimpressed, but, on, WOW. Most of the other eye shades I have as singles and the quality of those is superior. So I may check this out as a single color as a single purchase. . . . .I think it did release as a single, didn’t it?

Genevieve Avatar

I think this palette cannot decide whether it is for warm toned or cool toned complexions. I am definitely cool toned and I would not buy this palette because the palette is way too brown and dupable for me. To make it truly cool toned it needed a few more greys, greens and perhaps a blue….. The swatches did not look appealing to me. Thank you so much Christine for your blog – it saves us so much money.

Rachel R. Avatar

To me, this isn’t very exciting, color-wise. The shimmer is pretty. I know it seems strange with all the cool shadows, but I find when these cool shades and a cool lipstick are worn together, a hint of warmth on the cheeks can really make the face look less drained. It stinks for cool-toned skin types, though. Too bad there aren’t two smaller pans. One with the Rose Gold Shimmer and one with a cooler matte blush.

ReneeP Avatar

I know crystal beige looks average here but on my skin it is beautiful. One of my favorite browns ever. I see you have it as permanent. It was LE for the lonest time and I would buy palletes that contained it so I would never run out! Nice to see it is now perm.

Dayana Avatar

Ok so I am torn. This palette looks so beautiful, however every review I have read everywhere keeps saying that this palette is really nothing to talk about when you look at it up close and not in pictures. Would you say its worth spending the money on this palette or is it a pass? Meaning to spend my money somewhere else.

Shannon Avatar

Thanks for your post!!!! I got this over the weekend. Sephora had it marked down to $48 and I used my VIB discount which brought it down to $28. Well worth it!!!!!

Cheryl Fong Avatar

It’s funny most people say the blush throws this off because although I agree it doesn’t match, it was the blush that made me decide to splurge on this LE palette since it went on sale in Canada to match the USA price and I had a 50 dollar gift card from Christmas. I don’t have any other blush quite like it and I actually think it looks amazing on you ! The pewter eyeshadow I also found quite nice although it looked a tad more green in person in me (which was nice for my brown eyes )
