Kat Von D Rocker & Dazzle Everlasting Glimmer Veil Liquid Lipsticks Reviews, Photos, Swatches
Rocker
Kat Von D Rocker Everlasting Glimmer Veil Liquid Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.18 fl. oz.) is medium-dark copper with warm, red undertones and flecks of larger gold, copper, and red sparkle and shimmer. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that went on fairly evenly, though the shimmer/sparkle could have distributed more evenly across the lips. The consistency was thin, almost watery, but it dried down quickly but did not feel clingy. The lip color stayed on well for nine hours before there was more significantly fading of sparkle and some color from the center of the mouth that it needed to be reapplied. There was less of a noticeable stain that was left behind after I removed it, and what was left was fairly even/meshed with my natural lip color that it wasn’t obvious.
Formula Overview
The formula is supposed to have “24-hour wear” with a “liquid stain base” that “feels like nothing” on the lips that can be worn “on its own” or layered “as a veil” over another lip color. There’s a lot to like about the formula, and I think as far as the concept of “lip toppers” go, it offers the versatility of actually being easy enough to apply to wear on its own but still be useful layered over other products for a shimmering effect. The doe-foot applicator worked well with the formula, as it spread the color and sparkly bits across the lips quite evenly. The coverage ranged from shade to shade with most having medium, buildable coverage in a single layer, which was in line with the description. They dried down and were transfer-resistant (until eating/drinking/licking of lips) but still had a great shimmering effect that made them look wet, even when they dried. They were more comfortable to wear than I anticipated–lightweight and just a little drying.
One of the bigger downsides is that it’s not going to wear 24 hours. Just about every single shade (all but Thunderstruck) stained my lips intensely, which helped prolong the wear, but the product breaks down with water, just plain water, and of course, it is removable by a slew of removers, including oil which one might encounter during a meal. I found deeper shades stained well but removed unevenly and left behind stained lines and patches on my lips that did not dissipate for almost 24-hours post wear. I didn’t notice that the lip color did not take well to water initially, as I didn’t see any transfer on my glasses, but when I rinsed after I brushed my teeth (where I cup water in my hands, so less elegant than drinking from a glass), I had lip color running like crazy.
This led me to pay even more attention the next time I wore the formula, and sure enough, color lifted with just a sip of water and transferred onto things like paper (but not glassware) and the back of my hand. Some shades made it through meals better than others with the worst offenders lifting more noticeably from the center of the lips. The formula survives some eating and drinking, but the more you drink, the less it survives, and even careful eating/drinking yielded noticeably faded wear between eight and twelve hours of wear. I don’t think a brand would advocate 24-hour wear but expect you not to eat, drink, or even brush your teeth! I would consider it long-wearing in the grand scheme of things with solid six to ten hour wear depending on the shade. They do stain significantly less when layered over something like the brand’s Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks but can seep through more emollient lipstick formulas.

Kat Von D Dazzle Everlasting Glimmer Veil Liquid Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.18 fl. oz.) is a medium-dark red with subtle, warm undertones and gold and ruby red sparkle. This shade had less sparkle compared to other shades in the range, so it did not have as much of a “wet” look to it. It applied with semi-opaque color payoff in a single layer, which went on evenly and smoothly and dried down to a transfer-resistant finish as long as I avoided eating/drinking. The texture was thin, watery, but it spread ewll across the lips. This shade had a strong, reddish stain that gave a lot of coverage. On me, the lip color wore well for a solid ten hours (including eating/drinking) but had broken down enough to be in need of a reapplication at that point. The formula felt slightly drying toward the end of the wear time, and there was a moderate, pinkish stain left behind but did not seem to be as strong or as long-lasting compared to the more fuchsia shades in the range.

Now, we’re talking!
This particular shade may be a bit too orange to play well with my NW15 coloring, but it’s *pretty.*
I’d consider it far more wearable than the blue ones.
There was a tempting-looking bright pink one named I think, “Shockful,” but it seems to have sold out.
They are definitely more “traditional” shades 🙂
They don’t launch until the 22nd in full! The brand had 24-hour early access on Sephora a couple of weeks ago but the full launch is 8/22.
I still don’t know if I’ll actually buy.
I love shimmer on the lips, but Milani’s come out with a metallic matte liquid lipstick that is seriously long-lasting (if the one shade I’ve tried is typical), non-drying, cruelty-free ( like Kat Von D), and inexpensive (unlike Kat Von D).
So I’ll probably just buy more of the Milani products.
I agree that the Milani shades are fantastic pearl/ shimmer finish liquid lipsticks. The shades I have access too are not very bright at all though in Canada, but I know they have an expanded range in the US. 😉
It’s too bad that the outrageous 24-hour claim took the scores down, but that’s why I love your rating scheme so we can see how it performed in all the other areas!
I agree, Raeanne! I feel like they could have just said 12-hours, and they would be getting B+/A- consistently, I think!
Thanks for the review… I’ve been so curious about these! That’s too bad about them being susceptible to wearing down with water. If you reapply (for example, after a meal), does the glitter accumulate too much or does it look fairly even? Sometimes when I have used glitter lip products before, the color will fade but the glitter stays behind, which is kinda awkward!
No, I definitely think they can be reapplied without removing it entirely. The difference is the glitter goes away more than color here.
Both on my list. 😉 I think the only ones I’m not planning to get are the 2 pink and the purple shades. lol
They will be at IMATS Toronto as they are doing a stage demo with them as well.
Can’t wait for you to get yours!
Both are lovely looking, sparkly red lip shades. I am drawn to the actual shade of Rocker, but the glitter appears to be a bit too chunky. However, I do have UD Cruel, which looks quite close!
Cruel is similar enough – not quite as sparkly but still!
Rocker is stunning! A very festive, holiday shade
It is!
I don’t understand why a company would make a claim like “24 hour wear”. I’m not more inclined to buy the product because of a statement like that even if it did really last 24 hours.
That makes two of us!
Three! Lol
Dazzle is nice! Too bad it’s drying!
It is a great color!
Interesting that they run away with water. That makes it a pass for me, I do want my lipsticks to stay on when I drink.
I do love both of the colours reviewed, though.
They’re vibrant enough that I feel like you don’t notice them wearing down that quickly just drinking 🙂
Rocker is a glorious shade, but I don’t want 24 hour wear – there must be some pretty powerful ingredients in that lip creme.
It is a gorgeous color!
Very pretty! I really like the shine!
Yay!
I am less impressed by these two. I am still kinda interested in Razzle..what would be very cool is a little mini set of all the shades.
Here’s hoping for one!
Dazzle looks pretty!
