Kat Von D Piaf + Poe Shade + Light Blush Duo Review, Photos, Swatches
Kat Von D Piaf + Poe Shade + Light Blush Duo
Kat Von D Piaf + Poe Shade + Light Blush Duo ($25.00 for 0.317 oz.) is a muted, rosy pink set of shades, one lighter and one darker. The blush formula is supposed to “stay vibrant for a full 24 hours of wear” with “silky powders” that “blend effortlessly into skin for a flawless, buildable finish.” The marketing makes it unclear what level of pigmentation these should be on Sephora, but per the brand’s Instagram, they are “highly pigmented.” I think that this particular duo was one of the better-applying shades and required slightly less effort to apply, but it still had a drier, chalkier consistency that made it hard to get more than semi-sheer color out of it. That drier texture seemed to give me trouble when blending, as the color would stick on some places more noticeably than others, but it would be hard to diffuse or blend, even when I reached for a really dense, buffing brush. The blush is actually easier to use when mixed, because the more powdery (but less chalky) consistency of the light shade helps the darker shade to blend out, while the darker color gives a little more oomph to the color overall such that it is easier to see on more complexions.
From previous review(s): The packaging had issues (across all seven): 1) two of seven compacts had pans that fell out of the plastic compact; 2) the remaining five had loose pans that wobbled and moved (some more than others) within the compact; and 3) all seven were covered in blush residue (not sure why, nothing was broken).
Piaf (Shade) is described as a “chestnut rose.” It’s a soft, medium coral-rose with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had sheer coverage, which was buildable to semi-sheer after three layers. The texture was moderately dry and a little chalky, as the powder came off the surface but felt firm, and the loose powder seemed to clump together in a way. It could have been easier to work with and blend, and it was hard to eliminate all patchiness both times I applied (once for photos, once to wear). It started to fade noticeably after seven and a half hours. MAC Wall of Desire (LE, $24.00) is lighter, brighter (95% similar). Estee Lauder Lover's Blush (P, $34.00) is more shimmery, warmer (90% similar). ColourPop To the 10 (P, $12.00) is darker, warmer (90% similar). Poe (Light) is described as a “soft peach.” It’s a light, pastel pink with warm, yellow undertones and a matte finish. It had sheer pigmentation that was buildable to semi-sheer. It was softer in the pan with less chalkiness (it is interesting how the lighter shades are easier to use, while the darker shades have a drier, chalkier feel) that made it easier to apply to the skin. I had only a little trouble getting this one to blend out, though it is one of the harder-to-apply blushes I’ve tried in this color family. The color started to disappear after seven and a half hours. MAC What I Fancy (LE, $24.00) is warmer (95% similar). Make Up For Ever B206 (P, $23.00) is cooler (95% similar). Dang it these shades are pretty… >_<
They are!
How could they have got it so wrong? Did they accidentally forget to send them to quality control before being boxed for shipping?
I wish I knew why all of mine are so bad! 🙁
Thank you for reviewing all of these! I am very interested in the Dupe Lists for these blushes 🙂
No problem, Tara!
It’s too bad, the colors are perfect for spring, really hope they fix the production issues
Me too, Katherine! So sad.
These colors are so pretty! Oh well. lol
Yepppp 🙁
Thanks for the review, Christine. I actually bought this shade and have already returned it! I rarely return makeup but this was just awful. I’m a tad bit lighter than you and really couldn’t get this show up that well on me. When I took it back for return, the store hadn’t received these yet so they were curious to swatch them. Both sales associates at the counter commented on how bad they were and how the powder wouldn’t really adhere to the skin. I felt bad returning this but I’m glad I only ordered one to start with. I was really hoping that these would be as good as the face and eye palettes but that is not the case. Super disappointing!
Oh no, Alison! I’m glad you were able to return it, but so sad that you had a similar experience, Alison 🙁
If ONLY the formula had been done right, this duo could have been a winner! I really love the neutral/natural/peachy-rosy shade of it once mixed. Time to check the dupe list, which ironically has Nyx Amber on it; I very nearly bought Amber when I was doing my Nyx BOGO at Ulta. Still though, sooo sad! ?
It is a great combo! Wish the formula was better.
NYX Amber is one of my fave blushes, always in rotation !
I really like these colors. So diappointing.
Same here!
Wow, so glad I googled to see if there were any reviews before I almost placed an order today. I love this color combo, but I’m disappointed to see it perform so poorly. The double F rating is just sad 🙁
It is a sad time for Kat Von D blusehs 🙁
I *might* just got for this anyway. This was one of the ones I wanted and even though it’s far from ideal (very far), I’m still considering it. I’ll definitely have to go to Sephora to see if it’s something I’d want to take the plunge for though
Let me know how it works out for you, Carrie!
I can’t get over how bad these are. It’s just sloppy and makes me less likely to buy other KVD stuff, even if it is better performing. So sad because they are all nice colors in theory.
I’m really bummed about this launch!
WHY! This is like the perfect set of shades… Come on Kat!
Right? Boo!
Sad, sad, sad – and such lovely colours too.
I know 🙁
Shame. Nice shades with this duo.
Agreed!
Aww, no!! I love split pan blushes, so I’ve been really looking forward to these — but it’s good to know that they’re a skip. 🙁 I’ve really liked everything that I’ve tried from KVD so far, so it’s surprising that these are a bust on so many fronts!
I’m SO surprised by how bad these are! 🙁
I like the lipstick, eyes and foundation. That’s about all.I can say.
Thank you!
Blegh.
I’m so sad over these!
I hope they’ll consider reformulating this.
Me too! Or fixing any consistency issues, if it is just bad batches…
WOW! I got this Piaf/Poe duo and I love it! It looks natural and blended nicely for me! I wonder why it’s not working fo others
I wish it was blendable. I so wish.
Me, too! I was really surprised that it turned out lovely for me. I do wonder about the whole bad batch thing. Maybe that really happens?
I love the colour of the shades though!! Really a huge bummer on the quality!
I hear you, Candice!
