Kat Von D Mickey + Mallory Shade + Light Blush Duo Review, Photos, Swatches
Kat Von D Mickey + Mallory Shade + Light Blush Duo
Kat Von D Mickey + Mallory Shade + Light Blush Duo ($25.00 for 0.317 oz.) is a new, permanent set of peachy shades. The blush formula is supposed to “stay vibrant for a full 24 hours of wear” with “silky powders” that “blend effortlessly into skin for a flawless, buildable finish.” The marketing makes it unclear what level of pigmentation these should be on Sephora, but per the brand’s Instagram, they are “highly pigmented.” The lightest shade comes the closest to delivering a decent blush that misses them mark on the 24-hour wear time but isn’t so far off the mark from the other claims, but the darker shade is still a disappointment.
Mickey (Shade) is described as a “baked peach.” It’s a muted, medium orange with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had sheer pigmentation that built-up to semi-sheer color after three to four layers of product. The texture wasn’t quite as firm as the majority of the darker shades in the blush duos, but it wasn’t easy to work with. The very sheer coverage made it more forgiving on, as it was hard to see it anyway, so any patchiness wasn’t as noticeable at a normal viewing distance. The color lasted for eight hours before fading. Tarte Fortunate (LE, $29.00) is warmer (95% similar). Too Faced Mademoiselle (LE, ) is darker (95% similar). Dior Coral Sunset (002) (LE, $57.00) is darker (95% similar). Rare Beauty Nearly Apricot (P, $21.00) is darker (90% similar). Urban Decay Satisfy (DC, $26.00) is darker, warmer (90% similar). Kosas Papaya 1972 (Blush) (PiP, ) is warmer (90% similar). MAC Shy One (LE, $24.00) is lighter (90% similar). Hourglass Dim Infusion (P, $40.00) is lighter (90% similar). NARS Luster (P, $30.00) is brighter (90% similar). Tarte Fame (LE, $29.00) is darker, brighter (90% similar). Mallory (Light) is described as a “porcelain pink.” It’s a light pink with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque coverage (!) with a dusty, lightly powdery consistency. This shade was easier to work with and blended out without turning patchy or putting up a fight. It did not show up visibly as a color on me, just a kind of mattified look (slightly powdery/chalky against my complexion), but the pigmentation was enough that it is more the result of my skin tone being a poor match for the color itself vs. lack of pigmentation. The blush lasted for seven hours. MAC Blush Pink (LE, $35.50) is lighter (95% similar). Laura Mercier Sunset (LE, $24.00) is darker (95% similar). NARS 413 BLKR (Highlighter) (P, $30.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). KVD Beauty Nancy (Light) (DC, ) is cooler (95% similar). NARS Conquest (LE, $30.00) is cooler (95% similar). Physicians Formula Natural (P, $12.99) is more shimmery (90% similar). Guerlain Gold Palette #8 (LE, ) is lighter (90% similar). NARS Sex Appeal (PiP, $30.00) is warmer (90% similar). LORAC Luma (LE, $23.00) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Sydney Grace Belle of Georgia (LE, $9.00) is warmer (90% similar). Essence Blooming (P, $2.99) is darker, warmer (90% similar). Make Up For Ever B110 (P, $23.00) is lighter, warmer (85% similar). Surratt Beauty Duchesse (P, $32.00) is more shimmery, warmer (85% similar). Zoeva Yet to Come (PiP, ) is darker (85% similar). LORAC Tinge (PiP, $23.00) is darker (80% similar). KVD Beauty Poe (Light) (DC, ) is darker, cooler (80% similar). ColourPop Kiss n' Tell (LE, $12.00) is darker, warmer (80% similar). If she can fix the quality issues, these would sell like hotcakes
NARS Tarvos & Kari Dual Intensity Shadows are up on Sephora’s website! They’ve launched early, ahead of Feb 1 date. Sorry it’s off track but wanted readers to snag them, as they will be very popular
I agree!
Eek. I can hardly see it!
I hear ya!
Oh, dear! It almost seems a shame for you to spend your time reviewing these, Christine!
You never know til you try it! I mean, I probably wouldn’t buy shade extensions if there was no formula update at this point. (Kind of like the Studded Kiss formula – no need to buy every shade if the majority of what I tried was really, really bad).
You’re always so fair!
Wow. This is just sad. Think Kat Von D will address the issues? I have not seen a single good review on these.
No idea! If anything is done, I bet it will be very quietly.
*insert desperate crying emoji*
Aww!
Hi! I didn’t really understand what is the biggest issue with this whole blush line. Is it the application, colour pay off or longevity? Thank you!
All of the above.
A D+? Best grade yet! Oh, dear….
LOL!
One D+! WooHoo!
But still….these all still need to be recalled and FIXED. Back to the lab, I say!
lol!
🙁 I’m still super disappointed!
🙁
This truly is a shame!!!How could she possibly release these for sale with the quality so extremely poor!I wanted to buy this one alone for the name alone but I swatched it on my hand at my locally Sephora at JcPenney one of the first stores to have them in my area and I was so disappointed, they are just terrible???
I really wish they were better, Nika!
I have Mickey & Mallory and Piaf & Poe. I don’t think they swatch well at all but I bought them anyway knowing that I could return them. I am in the minority based on this and other reviews I have read but I like them. I don’t LOVE them but I like them. I didn’t find them patchy but they aren’t pigmented well. That being said I don’t care for a blush that so highly pigmented that I worry about “the clown affect” when I apply it. Maybe I am just heavy handed but I do consistently have that problem. I do swirl the colors together because for me the light shade is so light there is not a contour effect which is, of course, the purpose. BUT..I like the colors I have when they are swirled. I don’t find that they wear all day but I am fine to touch up. I know not everyone has time to do that or wants to carry the product around though.
I am glad you like them at least, Melissa! 🙂
Hey Christine, I have noticed it on a few posts , but comments are showing up before they are approved ( you know , the message we get when we post a comment, it’s on top of quite a few comments over the last few posts)
I will look into that, I’m not sure what you mean!
Argh. Still disappointing, but not surprising.
Pretty much!
