Tom Ford Honeymoon Eyeshadow Quad

Tom Ford Honeymoon Eyeshadow Quad ($80.00 for 0.21 oz.) is a warm-toned set of shades with a more frosted/metallic finish. All four shades performed well, had good pigmentation, blended out nicely, and lasted for eight to nine hours on me (without primer). The formula can be used wet or dry, with damp application yielding a slightly darker, smoother, and richer color overall that was sometimes more metallic. Tom Ford’s wet/dry formula doesn’t have a lot said about it, only that it can be applied dry for a β€œsleek and soft finish” or β€œwet for a bold and chromatic finish.” It performs well, and it’s easy to use, but the shades are very dupable, so if you’re looking for something unique to justify the price tag, I don’t think this it. If you’re focused on quality and like this combination of shades, it’s certainly worth a look.

According to Tom Ford corporate/PR, all of the new quads for spring are permanent. This is consistent with most of the counters/stores I called, though two said that they were all limited edition.

Honeymoon #1 is a medium, coppery orange with warm undertones and a frosted finish. It had opaque coverage both dry and damp, but the damp application made it appear slightly darker and more metallic. The texture was soft, smooth, and blendable. On me, the color lasted for eight and a half hours before creasing. ColourPop Fling (LE, $4.50) is less shimmery, lighter (95% similar). Laura Mercier Tiger's Eye (LE, ) is less shimmery (95% similar). MAC Whiz Kid (PiP, ) is cooler (95% similar). BH Cosmetics Foil Eyes #7 (PiP, ) is lighter (95% similar). Viseart Seduction (LE, ) is more shimmery (95% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty The Dreamer #2 (PiP, ) is lighter (95% similar). Too Faced Friendspiration (LE, $16.00) is darker (95% similar). NARS Siros (P, $28.00) is less shimmery, cooler (95% similar). ColourPop Shook Up (LE, $6.00) is cooler (90% similar). Viseart Beaux-Arts (PiP, ) is lighter (90% similar). Viseart Boheme Dream #5 (LE, ) is darker, cooler (90% similar). NABLA Cosmetics Byzantine (PiP, ) is lighter, brighter (90% similar). ColourPop La-La (P, $6.00) is darker (90% similar). bareMinerals Tan Lines (LE, ) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). ColourPop Uninhibited (PiP, $4.50) is darker (90% similar). Anastasia Bellini (LE, $12.00) is less shimmery, warmer (90% similar). Becca Sandstone (LE, ) is less shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Honeymoon #2 is a medium-dark, coppery bronze with warm, reddish-orange undertones and a frosted sheen. Applied dry, it was opaque and a little lighter with less of a smooth sheen, whereas damp application pulled the brown tones out of it and made it appear smoother on. It definitely takes less product to get opaque coverage when used damp. It wore well for nine hours on me. MAC Coil (LE, $22.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Milani Fusion (DC, $6.99) is less shimmery (95% similar). MAC Handsome Prince (LE, $21.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Guerlain Gold Palette #5 (LE, ) is cooler (95% similar). LORAC My Castle (LE, $19.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Anastasia Sphinx (LE, $12.00) is less shimmery, darker (95% similar). Dior Sienna #5 (LE, ) is less shimmery, cooler (95% similar). MAC Divine Decadence (LE, $17.00) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). KVD Beauty Synergy (DC, $21.00) is darker (90% similar). Chanel Γ‰clat Γ‰nigmatique #3 (LE, ) is less shimmery (95% similar). Natasha Denona Copper Stone (188M) (PiP, $29.00) is lighter (90% similar). Viseart Ambre (PiP, ) is less shimmery, darker, more muted (90% similar). Too Faced Caramelized (PiP, $16.00) is lighter (90% similar). BH Cosmetics Carli Bybel Deluxe Edition #14 (LE, ) is darker (90% similar). Dose of Colors Sunglow (LE, ) is lighter (90% similar). Stila Cinnamon (LE, $18.00) is darker (90% similar). Huda Beauty Smokey #3 (PiP, ) is darker, cooler (90% similar). Coloured Raine Cinnamon Lust (DC, $6.99) is less shimmery (90% similar). MAC Her Cocoa #3 (LE, $17.00) is lighter (90% similar). Morphe 24/7 (LE, ) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. Honeymoon #3 is a medium-dark cranberry with warm, reddish-copper undertones and a frosted sheen. It was mostly opaque applied dry with a lighter, warmer look to it, while the damp application was deeper and more red-toned overall with a smoother sheen. The texture was blendable, smooth, and soft to the touch, and it was easy to use both dry and damp. The color wore well for eight and a half hours before fading. Makeup Geek Showtime (P, $9.99) is more shimmery (95% similar). Pat McGrath Rose Dusk (PiP, $25.00) is less shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Huda Beauty Fling (Remastered) (PiP, ) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). Makeup Geek Enchanted (P, $12.00) is cooler (90% similar). Fenty Beauty Heart Burn (LE, $36.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). Milani Desert Getaway (PiP, $5.99) is lighter (90% similar). Tarte Nauti (LE, ) is less shimmery, cooler (90% similar). MAC Cranberry (P, $17.00) is less shimmery, cooler (85% similar). ColourPop Gotta Fly (LE, $4.50) is less shimmery, lighter, cooler (85% similar). MAC It's Not Easy Having a Good Time (LE, $21.00) is lighter, brighter, warmer (85% similar). Viseart Cosmos (PiP, ) is lighter, cooler (85% similar). Viseart Minx #6 (PiP, ) is more shimmery (90% similar). Pat McGrath Hedonistic (PiP, $25.00) is lighter, cooler (85% similar). Anastasia Pink Sapphire (LE, $12.00) is cooler (85% similar). Coloured Raine Date Night (DC, $6.99) is less shimmery, darker, cooler (85% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Pink Glow #3 (LE, ) is lighter, warmer (85% similar). Too Faced Ruh Roh (LE, $16.00) is darker, more muted (85% similar). Make Up For Ever D826 Fig (DC, $21.00) is darker, cooler (85% similar). Zoeva Warm Notes (PiP, ) is lighter, cooler (85% similar). KVD Beauty Raw Power (DC, $21.00) is lighter, warmer (85% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Honeymoon #4 is a deep plum with soft, warm, brown undertones and a satin finish. It was the least shimmery shade, which is something the quad needed for better cohesion, I think. It was opaque both dry and damp, with the damp application just having a slightly deeper, richer look overall. On me, this shade stayed on well for nine hours before fading. Chanel Signe Particulier #3 (LE, ) is darker (95% similar). Make Up For Ever ME828 Garnet Black (DC, $21.00) is darker, cooler (95% similar). Tarte Fingerpaint Art (LE, ) is lighter (95% similar). Pretty Vulgar Head Bitch (PiP, ) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Mercurial #3 (LE, ) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). Guerlain Electric Look #9 (LE, ) is less shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Bobbi Brown Volcanic (PiP, $38.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). L'Oreal Smoldering Plum (P, $7.99) is darker, cooler (85% similar). ColourPop Twilight (LE, $4.50) is cooler (85% similar). Chanel Rouge Noir (857) (P, $32.00) is more shimmery, lighter (80% similar). Chanel Variation #4 (P, ) is lighter (90% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

I don’t think… when I feel it, I just swipe.. I go into full makeup zombie mode! I bought this but Neiman Marcus put me on a wait list πŸ™

So happy that this got a good rating although I would find a way to make it work. Mine was delivered this week to my parent’s house so hopefully my mom drops it off at my house today or tomorrow when she stops for lunch or I will go pick it up this weekend. So excited πŸ™‚

This quad is very beautiful and very coherent in the choice of the colour combination. However, it is very easy to find dupes for much money. Today I bought a dupe for the second shade at Kiko Milano for 5.90€! It performs outstandingly well and it can also be applied wet or dry. This brand has dupes for the three other shades too. I love TF but it becomes difficult to justify such a spend in this case.

Tina Avatar

What are some of the dupes for this one? I have been waiting and just received mine, but now am hearing about Fiona Stiles that is available at Ulta is great quality and a fraction of the price.

I swatched this in store and agree, the formula is awesome! It’s a warmer version of Nude Dip. IMO, they need to make all of their shadows with the Nude Dip formula. I will be skipping this one though. I like the 2 darker shades but the 2 lighter shades looked too similar on my skin. I also prefer the cooler tones of Nude Dip, but I’m sure many people will love Honeymoon

I really hope this is permanent, I think I’d get good use of all four of these shades (though perhaps not together), which is very rare for me, but I definetely can’t afford it and don’t really need it right now.

Aline Avatar

I need this badly. It’s so beautiful and I have Nude Dip, so I know the shadows perform really well. I wish the stores could keep it in stock for more than 2 minutes.

Fran Avatar

These shades really are beautiful, even if they’re not great for me personally. I’m happy that the quality is there, because I’m interested in a couple of the other new quads, am hoping they’ll perform as well as this one does πŸ™‚

Nancy T Avatar

Beyond beautiful! Oh, I love this one!
I missed out on Pink Glow last spring due to it disappearing before payday, but this one is (likely) permanent, so no rush and it gives me time to put aside for it or just wait a few months.
Only catch being is when I saw your (VERY GORGEOUS) eye look, I was reminded of a look I do with Vice 3 using Lucky, Sonic, Alchemy and Bondage. So I guess I really have to ask myself whether I do looks like this enough to justify it. But the eye look though, looks richer than my UD version.

Eileen Avatar

This looks like a richer, deeper version of Guerlain’s Turandot (one of my all time favorites). I haven’t had the time to go see Honeymoon yet, but since the color scheme of Turandot performed so well for me, I’m eager to check it out. It looks gorgeous on you, Christine.

Gina Avatar

Hey Christine! I called Neimans about this earlier- they’re expected to get more of it in stock on February 5th. It’s not on the website because it’s still an estimate.

Denise S. Avatar

Wow the swatches look great. And I love the colors but probably own similar shades. Like the Guerlain Turandot palette (aka you’re wedding palette) and this looks kinda like it. Still haven’t brought a Tom Ford eyeshadow yet. Is this palette hard to find and do you think if I have Turandot I wouldn’t need this one?

Christine Avatar

If you don’t want a really warm, metallic look, then Turandot will hold you! This palette has been hard to get, though. If it is truly permanent, then eventually it won’t be an issue. Two shades in this are different enough from The Turandot quad that might sway you – this has a dark plum instead of a dark brown, and it has a lighter copper shade instead of a rusty-orange brown.

Joy Avatar

This quad is so pretty! There are complaints about Tom Ford Quads at $80. Each shadow at $20 at a good size in a friendly case is sort of the going rate for good singles. NARS dual intensity UD. MUFE. I see dupe city when I see the beautiful swatches. If anyone loves them all so much I think the price is terrific for what you get. Thank you for a thorough review and many dupes to look through! Pretty pop of green. ? So pretty! ?

Clidre Avatar

Honestly, with my Viseart sultry muse I can achieve the same looks of Honeymoon and Disco dust. Maybe I lack a metallic gold, but… I think I’ll buy one from Natasha Denona! So intrigued by her line! I hope you are reviewing her eyeshadows soon!

Joy Avatar

Hi Lisa. Would you mind explaining to me how you feel this brand has a pornographic/misogynistic advertising? I may be blind sited. I do care to learn what makes you feel this. Sorry it does. I think there is a seductive undertone in everything. I am not sure how this goes beyond any other brand to reach a level of porn or misogyny. Fragrance commercials showing two people in shade obviously nude and undulating.. Things like that leaving a picture of lacquered lips and legs with clothes on the floor seem more racey.

A Avatar

There have been TF perfume ads that are literally close ups of a perfume bottle between someone’s legs right over their genitals. Just google ‘tom ford ad’ and you’ll see it (along with many others) in the very first row of hits.

Joy Avatar

A… WHOA. I’m not boycotting but I don’t think glamorizing a man watching his hot naked babe iron his pants for him while bottles of perfume are showcased in between breasts and genitals is a good thing. So he isn’t into men? ? I had no idea. ?

Rebecca Avatar

Tom has always pushed buttons. He was behind Sophie Dahl in the Opium ad. πŸ™‚ I loved it, but the magazines at the time went nuts trying to Photoshop her nipple away. There have been some pretty racy TF ads, but he has shown naked men just as often. It would be one thing if it were only women.

Erin Avatar

I’m with ya. Won’t do NARS, either, same reason. And I’m in the market for a classic, lugged steel road bike, so Colnago’s recent social media campaign (“women are toys for men to ride”) means I scratched them off my list.

You wants my money? You gotsa treat me like a human being and a citizen, whether I’m your target market or not.

Tina Avatar

Yay! You finally got the honeymood quad!! Glad it got a good review πŸ™‚ I love the green on the lower lash that you paired with this look! What is it?

Carolina Avatar

I love the quad but unfortunately I can’t justify the price at the moment, but I will definitely be adding it to my wish list, and hopefully it is part of a permanent collection, so that I can make that happen. I would love to know what product you are using as a green liner, that shade is stunning!

El Avatar

It’s a beautiful palette, no question. It’s also an easy pass. I love all those colours and have already assembled my own collection, which also includes lighter shades. The Honeymoon palette would not be usable on its own for me – which isn’t a dealbreaker for a palette necessarily, but it has to have something special and innovative about it that speaks to me, in that case. And this one doesn’t.

Clidre Avatar

I have a question: I noticed this quad got an A, while Nude Dip is A+. Is the difference due to the shade selection? Or is related to quality? Thanks!!!

Kristi Avatar

All week I’ve wondered if this was permanent and I got different answers. Tom Ford retail stores said it was, but Neiman Marcus left a message for me that it was limited and wouldn’t be coming back. I was actually sad! lol
Good to hear that it’s coming back.
