Josie Maran Always Cherry Argan Infinity Lip and Cheek Creamy Oil Review, Photos, Swatches
Josie Maran Always Cherry Argan Infinity Lip and Cheek Creamy Oil
Josie Maran Always Cherry Argan Infinity Lip and Cheek Creamy Oil ($18.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “vibrant cool red.” It’s a subtly cool-toned, medium cherry red with a glossy finish. NARS Rose Gitane (P, $26.00) is warmer. MAC Viva Glam Rihanna (LE, $15.00) is shimmery. Revlon Fatal Apple (P, $7.99) is similar. Chanel Exces (P, $32.00) is warmer. Chanel Emoi (P, $32.00) is more muted. See comparison swatches / view dupes. (For blush comparisons, look here.)
My experience with this shade mirrored what I experienced with Timeless Coral. The formula is supposed to be a hydrating tint that can be applied on lips and cheeks–“natural-looking, never-greasy color.” It performs best as a lipgloss, but it’s more of a gloss, less of a stain. This shade did leave a very, very slight stain behind, and it wore two and a half hours, which was longer. It is somewhat hydrating as a lip gloss, though there are gritty bits here and there in the product. As a blush, it feels oily and slick, and it never sets or remotely dries down, so it moves around and looks uneven as it wears away (or breaks down foundation if you wear it on top of foundation, and I only saw about three hours of decent wear that way) after five hours on bare skin. The texture is dewy and lightly tacky on the cheeks, but it doesn’t feel tacky on the lips. It has a sweet, almost citrus-y, scent and taste.

You’re lovely, but we’ve all been duped! I say, stick with Nars Matte Multiple in Siam. Or other cherries in the sea.. ( See recent review on Temptalia about “Reds”) <3 XO
Thank you!
Too bad its a C! such a pretty color!
I’m seriously crushed over this formula. 🙁
That’s a pretty shade, but why so greasy and patchy!
Some readers with drier skin types have found it to work, so maybe if you’re drier, it actually absorbs!
You did good job in applicating it on your cheeks ! Very pretty !
There are some uneveness on the lips. The différerence with the Fluid Stick in Magique wich was perfectly even that you used before is very visible.
Xoxo,
Michelle
Thank you!
Alright, so scratch it as a blush then, got it. That said, even as a lip gloss I don’t like it enough to get excited over it…
The grittiness was really weird to me (and that it happened in both shades I bought), but the greasiness of it on… it’s so weird.
These are a little disappointing.
They were for me 🙁
first of all, i wonder why you would name a product ‘creamy oil’ because i don’t know about others, but that name certainly doesn’t appeal to me! which this colour and the previous one you reviewed are really pretty, the formula seems so patchy and… pointless! you would expect something that’s a ‘coloured oil’ to get absorbed by your skin, leaving the colour behind perhaps, and leaving the skin moisturised. clearly, this isn’t the case.
the muse really liked this product, which goes to show how different people’s tastes can be when it comes to makeup! personally it just feels gimmicky.
So far, readers who have loved the formula seem to have drier skin (in general), so maybe if you’re dry enough, it absorbs. I have normal-to-dry skin, a little drier on the cheeks, but it just felt like it sat there. I think the Muse has drier skin than not – guess it’s more like skin care so your mileage may vary (more so than with most color cosmetics).
you make a good point 🙂 but yeah it would be like applying gloss to your cheeks as someone below said. just not pleasant! unless you have very dry skin then it works, but i have very oily skin so i’d go for something like the daniel sandler watercolour blush instead. 🙂
Finding the right cream blush formula for oily skin is definitely a challenge sometimes! I don’t think we have Daniel Sandler here yet!
definitely tricky! i also like the maybelline dream touch blush for a nice dewy look without getting oily.
i’m in India where you don’t even get 1/4th the makeup you get elsewhere 🙁 so you have to settle for online shopping, which is okay still! god bless the internet.
IMHO, I don’t think I could stand applying a gloss on my cheeks.
It is a really weird feeling! Cool effect for a photoshoot or the like, but I felt slick while wearing it!
You are gorgeous but that is not.
I soooo wanted to love this formula!
I’ve tried the Boundless Berry shade of this product several times at Sephora and never had the problems you mention. For me, the gloss turns into a long-lasting stain and as a cheek color, I’ve put it over tinted moisturizer to good effect. Have not experienced the grittiness people have complained about. But of course, hearing these things makes me hesitant to go ahead and buy the product! But at $18, it is SUCH a bargain!
I really wanted to love these, so I’m glad that it seems to work well for you!
What a shame. A lot of her products are pretty great, so this one’s a sad miss!
It seems like if you have very dry skin, these might work, but otherwise, maybe not.
If this stuff were available here, I would be *so* curious how it worked with my super dry skin! I do really wish it had worked for you, though, as both shades look very pretty on you! I also like the paint tube package 😛
Muse loves it, so there is hope!
Too bad it performed so poorly like the other ones. I love the color on this 🙁
Me too!
Gorgeous when swatched but i’ll pass!
It had such promise!
I love the color but the formula sounds meh
The formula definitely seems finicky! Muse liked ’em, though, so her review might be helpful to check out!
I still like this formula…as I said on the coral review. I’m wearing that color today! My skin is very dry so for me it’s a Godsend! But I noticed as I applied it today that I automatically put a bronzer on lightly over my blush…I always do and don’t even think about it. That does help it set this product! A lot. So if someone has it and it isn’t drying down perhaps put a little powder blush or bronzer over it (dust lightly!). Not so thrilled with it on the lips…but it does add needed moisture so I’ve been wearing it under other things after it soaks in for 5 minutes.
I guess I’m not surprised that this products seemingly works better on dry skin.
I don’t have this color but it looks so pretty!
I’m happy that it’s working on you, Megan! 🙂
Well, the color and finish is really pretty-so I’m glad there are some very good dupes out there since this one didn’t perform the best!
Me too 🙂
I’m so glad you reviewed this, I’m a huge sucker for these products, especially ones with such great packaging like this. I quite often end up disappointed. Nothing compares to the lip and cheek stains bourjois used to do years ago.
Happy to share! 🙂
Aww, what a bummer! I was so excited for these to come out, but now that they are — I don’t think I’ve read a single positive review of them 🙁
Whoops, I take it back! I’m catching up on Musings and Temptalia at the same time, and 😮 😮 😮
My dry skin never gets any less dry in the summer (WHY??), so these are definitely going on the to-try list 😀
I’m so jealous of Muse! I wanted to love these, lol!
This looks so pretty, but too bad about the rating!
I know! So promising.
I have the original creamy oil and the plain ol’ Argan oil from Josie Maran, and I’ve found that the creamy oil doesn’t dissolve nearly as well as the oil itself and stays greasy for a very long time before rubbing off, whereas the oil absorbs quickly and without residue. It was weird and disappointing and now I’m stuck with a big tube of slowly separating creamy oil gunk.
Slowly separating? Ew! 🙁
