Illamasqua Welt Lipstick

Illamasqua Welt Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a bright fuchsia pink with a blue base. There is a subtle iridescent shimmer-sheen to the matte finish, too–it’s not a frost, but it’s not quite a sheen. It’s a rich, opaque color that really clings to lips, but the formula does not pull moisture out. Illamasqua’s Lipstick formula feels a little dry when applied, but let it warm up on your lips, because it really isn’t the drying kind. It does hug the lips, though, which makes it a much longer wearing lipstick (six hours or more).

Just my two cents worth:

I’m South Indian, neutral to cool undertones, between NC43 and NC50 depending on the season. This is a GORGEOUS colour on darker skin. It gives a kinda of rockabilly, Vargas look without turning costume-y. I did kinda feel like it was a slightly drying formula, but it provides the right kind of sensibility for the look. Loved it!

I’m in London and I went to the freestanding Illamasqua shop which is just a stone’s throw away from the MAC Pro shop, and I tried on Welt, Resist, Utopia, Flicker, Salacious, and Drench.

I bought Resist and Salacious. I was in love with Drench and Salacious and I looked at them only because I’ve been DYING to find a lipstick that would go with my much beloved MAC Beet lip pencil, which is gorgeous.

But after this post I wanted to try Welt and compare it to Resist and I’m NC45. The one girl working in the Illamasqua said that Welt looked too light on me, but that I’d love Resist so I said ‘OK’. I may go back and buy Utopia once I properly see it in daylight, and I’d love to buy the cream blush in Libido.

Resist is very pretty but as I’m typing this, I still haven’t seen it in daylight yet LOL to see if it’s any different from MAC Girl About Town, which I also have from recently (They say that recessions in general cause a ‘Lipstick Effect’). But Resist is like Girl About Town then it’s a matte version of it, but still manages to look slightly….quieter than it, but my eyes could be deceiving me.

But this is my first Illamasqua lipstick and it hasn’t dried out my lips, it looks matte and dry on me WITHOUT looking ‘dry’ on me if that makes any sense (I dunno).

Yeah, those dirty, grimy names are UD’s territory. This color doesn’t look like a ‘welt’ to me. But Christine wears it well (as usual).

I have a wet n’ wild lipstick that’s this exact colour, only not a matte finish! Love love LOVE wearing fuschia lipstick. It can be so flattering!

Also, it’s totally like… pink popsicle coloured.
