I once used niveau daily Moisturizer because i couldn’t go to the store for my normal shiseido moisturizer. so i tought that one week with this moisturizer wouldn’t be bad.
My skin became really dry and i got pimpels everywhere (and normaly never have them)

I have normal to dry skin

Clinique dramatically different moisturizing lotion. DEFINITELY DRAMATIC. It dies out my skin so much that I get huge flakes around my eyebrows and on my chin!

Vanessa Avatar

I hate this one too. I bought it becuase it claimed to be great for oily/combination skin… they were wrong it makes my face so oily yuck!

Tess B Avatar

I use it along with the 3 step and I have really dry skin and it moisturizes it for the entire day. That’s strange it doesn’t work for oily skin.

Annabelle Avatar

The lotion’s for dry/combination, while the gel version is better for oily skin.

For me, I use the lotion at night and the gel during the day and I’ve never had dry patches (I used to get them a lot during winter).

Emilie Avatar

I have dry skin and the lotion didn’t do anything. It didn’t even absorb into my skin. I bought the 3 steps regimen and I was completely disappointed by it all.

Luckily other things Clinique offer are much better like their All About Eyes cream.

Weirdly, the Cetaphil SPF 15 is my back-up moisturizer for times when I react badly against other moisturizers! I’ve been using it all this week to recover from the breakouts I received from either the Ole Henriksen Truth Serum and/or Sheer Transformation.

i really HATED philosophy hope in a jar or whatever it’s called. that stuff STANK and didn’t even really moisturize my face. I threw the jar away almost full 🙁 had gotten it for free though so wasn’t too devastating

Heather Avatar

I HATED Hope in a Jar as well. I read so many good reviews about it, and saw how popular it is on Sephora, so I ordered a small far. I am SO glad I only bought the small size. The smell was horrific and I did not feel like I was doing any good wearing the product at all. I have combination dry skin, and it was useless for me. A shame, too, because I like a lot of other Philosophy products.

I can’t remember the brand, but it had almond oil in it. Smelled delicious, I was tempted to spread it on toast. Didn’t do good for my skin, though; broke me out something crazy.

And I also hate things with fragrance added; I don’t mind natural essential oils, but anything with parfum on the ingredients list always gives me a major headache. I can’t stand strong scents; even applying body lotion with fragrance makes me wanna hurl.

I’m with the DDML – I use clinique almost exclusively but their classic moisturizer is not for me, it makes me itch! I agree with the previous commenter that the gel is awesome, but the lotion has to go.

Clean & Clear Morning Glow – it had these little hard specks in it, and never really sank into the skin. No moisturizing effect, and it burned if there was even a slightly irritated place on my skin. Terrible.

Jenna Avatar

” Clean & Clear – Finishes Pore Perfecting Moisturizer SPF 15 ”

I have normal to dry skin usually and this stuff not only didn’t moisturize but it BURNT my skin. Every time i put it on the nose/cheek/eye area my face was beyond irritated. Returned after 5 days and apparently a lot of people have had the same problem.

Katie Avatar

That’s the problem I had too and I have very dry skin. It was absolutely PAINFUL to apply. It would sting and burn so bad, I just couldn’t use it — not that it did anything useful anyway!

Rachel Avatar

Stila Petal Infusions makes me break out like crazy! It’s marketed as a ‘gentle moiturizer’ but gave me sore red spots 🙁 I have oily skin.

Charlotte Avatar

Diadermine Hydra Balance for normal to oily skin. It says to give a matte effect, but my face got ten times greasier and shinier! Even after using it for a few days there was no change. I hate to throw stuff away, so I now use it to hydrate my dry and chappy knees ^^

Michele Avatar

Clinique Dramically Different Moisturizing Lotion did nothing for me. I have normal to oily skin. There’s a lot of hype about it but I wasn’t impressed.

Sharron Avatar

Another vote for the infamous Hope in a Jar. Philosophy should rename it Breakout in a Jar.

Another baddie is a lotion from Origins that was part of an oil-control product line from the mid 90s. I can’t for the life of me remember the name, but I do remember how badly it broke me out.

Emilie Avatar

I have to say the worse was the Rareminerals Purely Nourishing Moisturizer was the worst I tried. Not only did it not moisturize it smelled horrible! It wasn’t even a chemical smell. It was more like a sweaty gym shoe smell.

Mindy Avatar

I didn’t like the Body Shop’s Seaweed Mattifying SPF lotion.

It does nothing to mattify me. And I bought 3/$30 when they had a deal on last year 🙁 I’m only into bottle number 2 and it has a looooong way to go

Melody Avatar

I have combination/oily skin and tried Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel. I really wanted to like this moisturizer after reading all the positive reviews, but it just didn’t work for me. It left me with dry patches on my face once it dried.

Tina Avatar

La Mer doesn’t work for me. I like the story behind the product, but for the price, it is not good. It is thick and goopy and it just sits on top of the skin and does not sink in. And, I have dry/sensitive skin.

Katie Avatar

For me, it has to be the one from Clean & Clear. It’s the WORST moisturizer ever. I have dry skin but I wouldn’t call it sensitive. I never had a product that burned my skin and caused a rash like that.

Alanna Avatar

I used the Clean & Clear Dual Action Moisturizer and it was so intense on my skin that it made my face warm and my eyes sting. It’s probably because the salicylic acid in it, but really, who puts that in a moisturizer?

Sugar Avatar

Philosophy’s hope in a jar – it smells awful and leaves a film on my skin. Especially at summer, that stuff was gross.

Also as all the ladies above mentioned – Clinique moisturizers. I have the gel, not the lotion, but its consistency is still weird – it feels very lightweight, but you have to use a bit because it’s quite runny, and then you discover your face is left with dry patches on skin, between the brows and around the nose. Ugh, can’t wait for it to end ><

Lulle Avatar

Clinique DDML is truly terrible. I have combination skin and this lotion made my face oily and super dry at the same time. Quite an achievement! I was shiny but had dry flaky patches on my forehead and nose. Never again…

Karen Avatar

I echo the sentiments here – Clinique’s Dramatically Different lotion or as I call it, “that boring yellow lotion that appears in every single Clinique gift with purchase.” I am always mystified as to why this stuff regularly appears in magazines as an editor or reader favorite (along with Maybelline Great Lash – boo!).

Natalie Avatar

MAC Studio Moisture Fix SPF 15. Oh my goodness! I really liked it at first, and enjoyed the scent. Well, a few hours later, I itched my face…it all rubbed off like dead skin!! And the scent started to smell like rotten eggs! Even people near me at work would smell it when they came close. I gave it chance after chance on days when I was just doing errands or at home, but oh gosh this one was horrific. I’ve never intentionally gotten rid of full bottles and such, but this went immediately into the Back 2 MAC bag I have, only a few pumps gone. Horrible, horrible, horrible.

Trista Avatar

Neutrogena Healthy Skin… that stuff SUCKS!! Made my face burn and eyes water from the smell. I’m quite fond of the Clinique gel one everyone is raggin on here actually…

Anna Avatar

I’ve been using Neutrogena’s Oil-Free SPF15 Facial Moisturizer for the past year, and I really love it (maybe you want to try it out instead of the healthy skin?) I wasn’t so fond of it at first, but within a few days I was loving it, it keeps my skin moisturized, and it’s perfect for use under foundations-I apply it and wait about 5 minutes for it to soak in, and then start my routine. Definitely improved my skin, which tends to get quite dry and flaky in the winter. Hasn’t broken me out at all, and I apply it 2x a day during the winter to keep my skin extra hydrated and to keep flakiness away.

Kelly C. Avatar

If you are combo/oily I would not rec. the Oil Free SPF 15. Ironically, it is by far the most greasy moisturizer I have ever used. Did not break me out, but it’s definitely better for a dry skin type, so gross.

Sarah Avatar

I’m not sure anymore what is worse– Clinique or Philosophy! I have dry/sensitive skin and I sometimes flare up with rosacea. I’m still looking for a decent moisturizer for my skin– I’ve been through most of them with no great success (including La Mer). Any suggestions?

Felis Avatar

I’m with everyone else on the Clinique. Every time I’ve tried a Clinique moisturizer I’ve broken out like crazy – and I never have breakouts otherwise!

Also their stuff tends to smell like unholy death. 🙁

MARGO Avatar

MARY KAY TIME WISE AGE FIGHTING MOISTURIZER. ALSO A QUASI MOISTURIZER- ARDEN’S PREVAGE ANTI AGE SERUM, IT IS THICK LIKE A SWEET POTATO PUREE…UGH!!

Jenica Avatar

Clinque’s Dramatically Different Gel. That, along with their entire 3-step-line, did horrifying things to my skin. I have never had a worse reaction. I got all these little bumps on my face that looked like they were growing pimples, but never came to a head. As soon as I stopped using it, my skin became flawless.
