It Is… Love!

For the holidays, Guerlain Turandot Eyeshadow Palette ($59.00 for 0.25 oz.) features four eyeshadows–two matte and two iridescent shades. It should start popping up retailers and counters in October.

The first shade is a light-medium golden orange–more like an orange-toned gold than your expected yellowy gold. It has a soft, frosted finish with a silky-smooth, finely-milled consistency that applies beautifully on the skin. The pigmentation was true-to-pan, and it didn’t require any layering or packaging to achieve opaque color. Milani Gold Dust is a smidgen darker and has a more metallic finish. Clarins Enchanted Summer is darker, less orange. Giorgio Armani #1 is similar, slightly less orange. MAC Goldmine is much yellower.

Next, there is a rusted, reddish-brown with a satiny finish. It had good pigmentation, and it was very soft to the touch and easy to blend on the eye. NARS Self Portrait 3 is lighter. MAC Magnetic Attraction is similar but has more gold shimmer. MAC In the Sun is redder. NARS California is richer, more orange. MAC Mythical is lighter. Guerlain Les Fauves has a shade that’s a bit darker, browner.

Below, there is a darker, muted reddish-plum with a hint of brown. The finish has a slight sheen to it, but it is mostly matte. The color payoff was good, and the texture was soft, blendable, and easy to apply. MAC In the Sun is shimmery. Le Metier de Beaute Bordeaux reminded me–just barely–of this shade, but it is much darker, more burgundy. theBalm Racy Kacy is more orange/brown.

The last shade in the palette is a gray-tinged medium-dark brown with subtle warm undertones and a frosted sheen. It had a soft, buttery texture that made opaque color a breeze to achieve. Dior Fairy Golds has a very similar shade in it. Urban Decay Barlust is darker. MAC Havana is warmer. MAC Chestnut is warmer.

Turandot is a warm-toned palette that combines surprisingly well; I thought the shades might not offer enough contrast, but they can and do.  The two middle shades are similar but have different undertones, so they’re noticeably different when placed near each other.  I would not say that any of these shades are particularly unique, so the color combination could be replicated with products you may already own.  It’s, of course, nice to have them all in a single palette.  I don’t think I would have thought to put these particular shades together.  It does seem a little autumnal in color, even if it is for the holidays.

The quality is good across the board, with the two more matte shades having just slightly less color payoff compared to the shimmery shades.  They held up well on the eye, all four shades lasting for ten hours without any fading or creasing, both over a primer and without one. It’s one of my personal favorite palettes that have come out in the past year!

While I find this quad would be flattering on most skin tones, I can’t help to imagine how *stunning* it would look on those with deeper skin tones.

I totally agree with you, it’s love… I’ve really had a great experience with Guerlain quads, and this one just looks lovely. I’ll call my Guerlain counter to ask when is this pretty arriving. I also adored how you placed the shades, great inspiration.

Seriously these shades are GORGEOUS. My favorites are the gold and red/plum. I love neutrals but there’s been so so many neutral palettes released recently, these unique neutral shades are very appreciated.

I *love* the look you did with this palette; it’s just gorgeous. I think the palette itself is a bit warm for me, but it’s still really, really tempting.

This new Guerlain range is making me want to try something from them – I’ve always dismissed them as being wildly overpriced before, but there are some beautiful pieces in these new reviews!

Such a gorgeous palette. My eye is drawn continuously to that soft yellow-orange in particular. In the pan, it’s just lovely. I fear the palette as a whole may be far too warm for me, but it’s definitely one I will check out in person.

This palette is really pretty! just judging by pictures, but the colour selection is VERY similar to the one Chanel is putting out for their holiday 2012 collection. its not the same finish but I actually had to do a double take with these xD

I was eagerly awaiting your review of this palette, Christine, ever since you posted that gorgeous look you did the other day. But in all honesty, I think this is just too warm and red toned for me so I’ll likely take a pass on this (but ya never know….)

This combination is so sophisticated and beautiful. I tried a dupe of this palette today and was quite close with my existing collection. I didn’t have time to squander and do a really nice look, but regardless, I have come to the conclusion that a collection of colours in these tones just does not suit me all that well. Dammit. I can wear it no problem, but it falls flat somehow. Too warm?? I dunno. It’s good news on one hand as I won’t be racing out to buy this palette. I will have to live vicariously through Christine.

Love It! Definitely must have. The colors are so beautiful. I love these kinds of shades. But I think that, if I were to use it, I will not apply to much to make it look warmer and natural.

Oh, I need this! Is it surely not LE? Christine, if it is not too much of a hassle – can you describe which shades you applied where in this gorgeous picture of yours? This picture alone makes me want to get this palette. First Guerlain product aside the holiday meteorites pressed powder. 🙂

According to Guerlain’s press release, is was not LE! Top middle on the inner lid, left on the middle of the lid, right on the outer lid, bottom middle in the crease.

I’m just curious, but why does it only get 4 out of 5 for packaging? It seems like I never see 5/5 in packaging ratings on Temptalia. What would be a perfect packaging?

Is there any indications from the Press rep for Guerlain on when this palette will become available at Sephora? I would really like to buy this for the F&F sale this month?

I know it was up for sale but it appears it’s not listed anywhere – I was told it was not LE, so maybe it is temporarily sold out…
