Guerlain Rouge G Lipsticks Reviews, Photos, & Swatches (Part 4)
Guerlain Geneva Rouge G Lipstick
Here are the currently available warmer orange/reds from the Guerlain Rouge G Lipstick ($51.00 for 0.12 oz.) range–there are a surprising amount of them! The Rouge G formula is a long-wearing, moisturizing lipstick with a moderately creamy consistency that glides on easily and leaves a lightly glossy, luminous finish behind. Most shades are mostly opaque to fully opaque, though a few are less pigmented. I find the formula to be consistent overall, but there are a few that I like less than others. I reviewed the majority the range four or five years ago, and of course, any newly released shades since–hope you’ve enjoyed this update! 🙂

Geneva is a brightened, medium coral-orange with warm udnertones and a glossy, luminous sheen. It had rich color coverage that gave lips a fuller, plumper look. It wore well for five hours and kept my lips feeling hydrated both during and after wear. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Genna is described as a “poppy red.” It’s a brightened, medium orange with warm, red undertones and a luminous finish. It had full color coverage that went on evenly and smoothly. This shade lasted for six and a half hours on me, and it was incredibly comfortable and moisturizing while worn. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Gilda is described as a “warm red.” It’s a slightly muted, medium-dark orange-toned red with warm undertones and a luminous finish. It was intensely pigmented and applied evenly with rich, smooth color. This shade wore well for six and a half hours on me and left behind a light stain. The formula was lightweight, moisturizing, and comfortable to wear. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Gipsy is described as a “deep tangerine.” It’s a muted, medium orange with lighter, tangerine shimmer and a glossy finish. It had mostly opaque color coverage that applied evenly overall. It seemed a little more emollient than the average shade in the formula. It wore well for four and a half hours on me and was very hydrating during that time. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Gisela is described as a “terracotta rose.” It’s a deepened, muted rusty red with warm, orange undertones and orange pearl. It had a less glossy finish compared to much of the Rouge G range, but it still had a light shine. The color wore well for six and a half hours, and it left behind a subtle stain. It was nicely hydrating throughout the wear. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Again, these are so gorgeous. Maybe it’s the sheen/shimmer, but there’s just something that sets them apart a lot of standard orange/reds.
Guerlain does manage to get a glossier finish that doesn’t just slide everywhere – I think that is part of it – and then they use a lot of fine shimmer/pearl (that’s my favorite part).
I already own Rita from the new Nars line, but as someone who loves Rita Hayworth and film noir, I think I need Gilda. They look like basically the same color 🙁 . Do you see a difference, Christine? Maybe Rita is a bit darker? Any difference you can tell me, please 🙂
Not a major difference, but Rita is darker and not as glossy — Rita will wear down to satin/semi-matte faster. http://www.temptalia.com/submit-dupe?sbs=1&pid=101508&dupe=172186
The price makes me cringe but the formula sounds so perfect. It doesn’t help that I like all of these colors either. I’ll have to make the splurge soon
Is there one particular shade that you really like?
So… Geneva looks like an orange that might be wearable for me…
<– desperately wants to get into orange lipsticks
…OI! WALLET! STOP! Yes, i know we said we might try oranges with Revlon Tutti Frutti and that carnival one, But, but… Rouge G!! *chases after wallet again*
I can’t wait for you to finally cave on an orange 😉
Wow, I’m surprised not to find Geisha anywhere. Has it been discontinued? It’s the only Rouge G I own, and although the formula bleeds on me and doesn’t last as long, it’s a beautiful red.
I do believe it was discontinued 🙁
Aww, that’s too bad 🙁 the permanent reds now are pretty, but Geisha was much more unusual.
Awww Noooo! I need to get my guitar out and start busking somewhere to raise some money for some new lipsticks – am loving Geneva and Gipsy in particular!! Also really like your eyeshadow too dammit!!
LOL!
I like Geneva but not sure I could wear it.
It would be interesting to hear if it works for you!
Gipsy looks a bit lighter than I remember. But gah, how pretty is Geneva? They really need more corals in the line!
Gorgeous, of course. 😉
all the shades are really pretty! <3
Many of them are!
Gisela is amazing!
Agreed!
if you were asked to recommend any two shades for someone with warm undertone medium-dark Indian skin, which would those be? I’m loving all but my wallet will only allow me two
oh, and I mean two from the entire rouge G range, not just these four:-(
Gipsy & Garconne! If you want something more neutral or “wearable” then Gracia!
thanks Christine:-) how does Garconne compare to Chanel pirate?
any from the pink family? there are very, very few pinks that work on me, something about me turns them all neon and makes me look like a clown:-(
Maybe Gemma then?
I don’t think I have Pirate!
Genna was my wedding lipstick, I blotted it down a bit for daytime. I think that orange lippies can make your teeth look yellow, but no it was amazing. I felt so happy and confident in it all day!
Awwww 🙂
I should get Geneva 🙂 Just to honor the country I live in, lol.
Haha! Justification enough for me!
Mmm, Geneva looks like fruit punch, I love that look lol
Me too!!
Aw, yeah 🙂
Wow, they’re all so nice!
They perform pretty well on the whole!
Luxury that’s truly luxurious.. I only have Love. 😀 Which, of all, is your favorite?
Tough to say for the permanent range. Probably Garconne 🙂 I also really like Gipsy and Gina, because of the shimmer. Gracia for a more wearable shade.
It’s like choosing favorites from children… you can’t.
Lovely, lovely corals. *sigh*
I hear a deeper sigh from everyone’s wallets!
Sighing? Mine’s screaming in agony. 😀
These are just plain and simple gorgeous..I am going to save these for a piece of my post-holiday shopping indulgences for myself. 🙂 I was going to invest in more Nars audacious..which are wonderful in their own rite. I may have to skip or limit to one. These are just lovely on you. I am favoring Gisela just from the swatches. But, I like to actually see something this pricey. So glad they are permanent!
Gisela is really lovely. Most of them are quite nice!
