Guerlain Girly (71) Rouge G Lipstick

Guerlain Girly Rouge G Lipstick ($47.00 for 0.14 oz.) is described as a “pink.” There is more fancy marketing-speak than color description in the press release. It’s pink–oh, yeah–it’s a vibrant, nearly glowing, pink-red.  It has more of a cream finish with opaque color coverage and a glossy shine. It is redder than Guerlain Champs-Elysees but darker than OCC Queen. It’s a touch darker compared to Estee Lauder Wild Violet, which also has shimmer.

This is one of my favorite lipstick formulas, and I’m excited whenever they release new shades (my wallet less so!), so I had to pick this one up as soon as they launched online. The shades they’ve been putting out recently have had really lush finishes to them–they make lips look so smooth. Girly was everything Gigolo is/was, so I’m repeating what I wrote in that review here: Guerlain’s Rouge G formula is one of my favorites, because of the excellent color payoff but even better texture and feel. They are comfortable to wear, long-wearing (I am able to get six hours of great wear with Girly and about 80% of color remains after eight hours plus a meal), and moisturizing. They are violet-scented (but not too heavily–less so than some of their powders) and come in heavy, silver metal cases with a flip out mirror.

I do feel you pay a chunk of change for the packaging, which while decadent, does hold fingerprints, doesn’t store as easily, and the small text of the shade on the back is hard to read. I really hope they sell refills someday.

Oh man that’s gorgeous! I really want it but $47 is hard to swallow for a bright color I won’t wear often :X. If it was a Rouge Automatique I would have it already though haha.

yeah thats what i was thinking too! this looks similar to what gigi looks like on me – its much redder on me than you cause my lips are mauve.

This is the right review 🙂 It’s for Girly – which is a pink-red, as described above, along with the possible dupes for Girly (totally different from Gigolo!). The formula is the same Gigolo, as they’re both Rouge Gs, and they’re both excellent, so I did not rewrite the exact same descriptions when it came to packaging, formula, etc.

Awe, it’s just soo pretty. That’s my second favorite color of all time, and one of my favorite makeup colors; it’s too bad there aren’t any legitimate drugstore dupes- oh well.

It is gorgeous! The Rouge G formula is my favorite lipstick formula ever, so sad it’s so stupidly expensive!! But I feel like I could let myself be tempted and might just try it next time I’m at the mall 🙂

Stunning shade and it looks gorgeous on you, Christine. It definitely makes your lips look great and it seems like the finishes of the recent shades are remarkably good. I compared this with gigi in your swatch gallery (was the most similar shade that came to mind) and while Gigi looks great, this just looks so much better!

Also wholeheartedly agree with what you said about sometimes it being better to have a well edited collection of products you love and will use than many less satisfying shades. At least that’s what I’m telling myself as I love the Rouge G formula, but my god they’re expensive! :p

WOOW! this color is so amazing! Guerlain seems to make lipsticks in colors I really gravitate towards, too bad the price is way to high for me. Looks absolutely gorgeous on you Christine

Hi Christine, this shade looks fab on you! PLease can you advise, how do you manage to make lip colour last through a meal? I’ve tried all sorts of formulas, but not even MUFE Aqua Lip does that for me! thxs!

I get the feeling that when I get the urge to do a serious makeup splurge, I’m going to grab one of these. I love lipstick, but it takes a lot of trial and error for me to find shades I really love because my skin dries easily, especially my lips. Sometimes good quality is just worth the price tag. 🙂

Thanks for covering such a wide range of products! It makes the shopping so much easier.

Oh wow this looks so amazing!!! I’m thinking about ordering it online ( I can’t buy Guerlain in any shops in the town I live, such a shame) but I already own Chanel l’exuberante (rouge allure velvet 37).
Besides from the obvious difference in finish ( l’exuberante has a matte finish) are the colors very similar?
I’m a bit torn about wether to buy it if it is too similar color wise, because then I guess I can achieve the same result by layering a gloss. I hope their not too similar because Girly Rouge looks absolutely beautiful on you!

This was my first Rouge G purchase and definitely won’t be the last. I never would have learned about this fantastic line of lipstick with you! Garconne and Gigolo are next on the list 🙂
