Guerlain #65, 72, 73 Rouge G de Guerlain Lip Colors (2018) Reviews, Photos, Swatches

#65
Guerlain #65 Rouge G de Guerlain Lip Color (2018) ($32.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a medium-dark pink with subtle, warm undertones and a luminous sheen. It had faint pearl (more so than most shades in the formula) as well. The consistency was smooth, lightly creamy, and comfortable to apply and to wear without being too slippery. It had opaque color payoff that wore well for five and a half hours. The formula felt hydrating over time and didn’t settle into my lip lines but actually made them less prominent.

Formula Overview
$36.00/0.12 oz. - $300.00 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to have "intense colour" with a hydrating base that includes things like jojoba and mango butter as well as hyaluronic acid (and gugul resin) to "help to smooth and plum up lips." I would describe the formula as somewhere between semi-opaque and opaque, often buildable, with a luminous sheen that seems like there's very, very fine pearl but less distinctive shimmer (except for the shades that are actually shimmery).
I find that the magic of the formula is in its finish--it's shiny, luminous, and absolutely smoothing on the lips without compromising wear (four to six hours, sometimes longer). The formula is very hydrating and comfortable to wear. They have a sweet, floral scent but no discernible taste to me. The updated shade range seems to have a stronger emphasis on mid-tones in coral and red and less beiges than before.
The Rouge G de Guerlain Lip Colors have been updated but mostly with respect to packaging and the shade range, as the formula itself has not been changed (per the brand). The lipsticks are now available as refills for $32.00 each, and then one can pick from an assortment of cases ($15.00 each), though each refill comes with a small, plastic cap that keeps the refill from drying out while waiting to be sold. The refill cap seems like it would be sufficient to keep the lipstick long-term, but I can't say from experience. I have not tested each shade for wear, but the shades I have tested, initial swatches and applications, and the like make the formula seem the same as before.
The old Rouge G cases do not fit on the new refills as the case doesn't stay on without a magnet (it just slides right off). I don't yet have any of the cases as they weren't available to me to purchase yet, but I plan to pick one or two up merely to see how they feel (probably the Original, to see if there was any weight change, and then something new).
A big upside to the refillable packaging is that they're actually significantly less expensive buying them piecemeal than buying it all-in-one. The original Rouge Gs were last sold at $58.00 for 0.12 oz., and now, the all-in-one price is effectively $47.00 for 0.12 oz. -- that's a nearly a 19% reduction in price.

#72
Guerlain #72 Rouge G de Guerlain Lip Color (2018) ($32.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a bright, medium fuchsia pink with cool, bluish undertones and a natural sheen. It was richly pigmented with a lightweight, lightly creamy texture that glided across my lips without dragging but did not slide around too readily while worn. It lasted for five and a half hours, left a faint stain behind, and was moisturizing while worn.

Guerlain #73 Rouge G de Guerlain Lip Color (2018) ($32.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a medium-dark magenta with subtle, cool undertones and a luminous sheen. It had good color payoff in a single layer, though it wasn’t quite opaque. The consistency was lightweight with moderate slip, so it applied easily and comfortably, but there was a smidgen of streakiness along the edge of my lips that I couldn’t resolve, though it wasn’t noticeable from a normal viewing distance. This shade stayed on well for five and a half hours and was hydrating.

These look lovely! I just #65. I have OCC RTW Lip Tar in Shoegazer but it is in my purge pile (too dark, would prefer a lighter color in a bullet form) so it’s perfect. It will be my first Rouge G!
just *ordered*
Hope you love your first Rouge G!
Wow. I find the bright pinks and magentas in this line look outstanding. (Or maybe it’s just that I love those shades…) I was hoping that #65 would be close to the old #65 (Grenade) since that was my first Rouge G and has remained among my favourites ever.
I just knew I’d fall in love with #65! Obviously, since I already have UD Manic and have PMG Beautiful Creature Luxetrance on my WL. Seems like some shades, especially these soft wine shades, always reel me in; hook, line and sink her, LOL.
Surprisingly, #72 is also very appealing to me, too. And I’m usually not drawn to many fuchsia lip products!
This is killing me…I have no idea how I’m going to choose one. These three aren’t even on my list of favorites and I adore them!!! I’ve just got to be patient and wait for all the reviews and swatches before I decide on my first Rouge G.
These are absolutely my favorite shades. I am glad I held off on placing my order last night because I am going to pick up at least 2 of these three. So beautiful and they are stunning on you. I am still trying to figure out how you manage to wear every shade of lipstick and make them all look like they were made just for you, Christine. Share your secret with us!!!
I guess I have to buy the former #65 (Grenade) as the new #65 doesn’t come close to the previous shade. I’ve noticed that if a lipstick shows strong pigment on you Christine and is described as medium-something, it will show darker and stronger on me. I’ve tried the previous Grenade on me and is a completely different colour than what I see from your swatches above.
The same exact thing happens to me, most lipsticks look a lot darker on me than on Christine, I can’t go completely on how it looks on her, must be our skin coloring or undertones.
That’s what I think as well. Also, different lip pigmentation (my lips are not so pigmented). For instance, Firebird (UD x Gwen Stefani) looks like a strong magenta on Christine and on me it was almost violet (I had to return it, which is very rare for me). Naked Truth by EL is a beautiful warm coral with golden hints on her; on me, it’s like pure gold on my lips, the coral not showing up. I kept it though and I use it on top of other lip colours but it is a far cry from how it looks on Christine.
and besides, have you noticed that all lip colors look good on Christine? What’s up with that?? She makes me want them all.
Yes!!
