A Beautiful Red for Autumn and Winter

Giorgio Armani #408 Rouge d’Armani Lipstick ($30.00 for 0.14 oz.) is darkened, cool-toned red with micro-fine ruby red shimmer finished with a pearly sheen. NARS Amsterdam is warmer. MAC Rocker is very similar but matte. shu uemura has a similar texture but is warmer. Rimmel Metallic Seduction is a bit browner. Make Up For Ever #48 doesn’t have shimmer. MAC Digna is just slightly lighter.

There’s something to be said about trying a product on, and it’s definitely something that I caught onto a couple of years into blogging, but sometimes I’m still surprised. The way this swatched seemed like it was going to be a little sheer, perhaps look like a lip stain when applied, but it’s much more opaque. There is a subtle translucency that’s lingering in the background, but overall, my lip freckle is a mere shadow. The Rouge d’Armani formula is lovely, and with this shade, I did get seven hours of wear (of the eight the brand promises) and there was a light stain left behind. Aside from the length of wear, it’s such a comfortable, hydrating, and evenly-wearing lipstick that applies easily without tugging or dragging on the lips.

Giorgio Armani packages the lipstick quite well; glossy black that disguises fingerprints well with a magnetic closure that stays in place even if you let it rattle around your purse or makeup bag. The lipstick is both scent- and taste-free, for those sensitive to either. Oh — and 0.14 oz. makes it one of the more generously-sized lipsticks on the market.

I like Armani foundations a lot! I never tried their lipsticks, usually stick with MAC or YSL, but this color is gorg! I gotta give it a try, thanks for reviewing. Absolutely beautiful on you.

I purchased most of the Armani fall lip colours including this one. I find Armani lipsticks have a weird mousse like texture. They go on feeling so light, you expect lustre or dewy like coverage. You read the word weightless all the time associated with lipsticks, but in this case they truly are incredibly weightless. I think this could be a good lipstick for people who have issues with their lips drying out. However, I get better longevity with TF, GG, or even MAC.

Wow, I would have thought that would be a much darker red, judging by the color in the tube. It looks more berryish than I thought it would. It’s a gorgeous color, but it looks like it applies slightly unevenly to me. I’m not sure it’s one that I’d pay $30 for, but then again I’m more of a lip gloss girl.

I am so in love with this lipstick… I mean, I always love Fall’s deep red shades, but this one is just unbelievable. Interesting that I find on your complexion- a little warmer than mine- it looks a shade browner. On me I find the blue undertone is a bit more obvious. I think that’s where the slight sheerness comes into play- it adapts just enough to whoever is wearing it.

I didn’t have such luck with #408. I have about 4 other Rd’A L/S and they are much more opaque and long lasting. In fact, my outcome was what your first swatch seemed like – sheerer than you expected, more like a stain, and not very long lasting. Also, this color looks distinctly cool, dark pink/burgundy on me. It doesn’t on you *jealous*. I’m going to try their liquid l/s, and in the meanwhile, I’m sticking with #403, a stunning dark red that’s world class.
