Fenty Beauty Sand Castle/Mint'd Mojito Killawatt Foil Freestyle Highlighter Duo Review, Photos, Swatches
Sand Castle/Mint'd Mojito
Fenty Beauty Sand Castle/Mint’d Mojito Killawatt Foil Freestyle Highlighter Duo ($36.00 for 0.24 oz.) consists of a medium taupe and cool blue. Together, they layered to create a neutral-to-cool leaning pewter, and it could definitely get cooler and more silvery depending on how little or much you used of any particular shade. Both highlighters had good pigmentation, blended out with ease, and lasted for over eight hours on me.

Formula Overview
$36.00/0.24 oz. - $150.00 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to have a "creamy texture" with a "mega-reflective, foil-like finish" that can be used on the "face, eyes, collarbone [or] anywhere you crave a touch of light." The brand described them as "buildable, color-rich luminizers," which seems to indicate the finish is more buildable than the base (as they're touted as "color-rich" in other marketing pieces). The majority of the shades have mostly opaque to opaque pigmentation and have a denser, firmer texture (not stiff, though) that lends itself to lighter-hand application for sheerer coverage if preferred. Most of the shades were pearly to metallic with slight, finer sparkle and didn't emphasize my skin's natural texture. They lasted between eight and nine hours on me with minimal fading over time. As eyeshadows, they performed decently, but a couple of shades had larger flecks of sparkle, which seemed to look more obvious when I tried blending them out as an eyeshadow.

Sand Castle
Sand Castle is a medium-dark taupe with subtle, warm undertones and a bright, metallic finish. It was richly pigmented with a smooth, moderately dense texture that was soft to the touch and blended out beautifully on my skin. Depending on the angle, this sometimes appeared almost gray and other times warmer and more mauve or bronze. I didn’t feel that it accentuated my skin texture, but it didn’t smooth it out either, and it might do so for someone with more texture on their skin. The highlighter wore well for nine hours on me before fading a bit. This shade was fantastic as an eyeshadow as a little went a long way, and it was very blendable.

Mint'd Mojito
Mint’d Mojito is a pale, icy blue with cool undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. It had good color coverage that was buildable to opaque coverage with less than two layers. The consistency was soft, smooth, and blendable without being too firmly nor too softly pressed in the pan. It was easy to apply to my skin, and it yielded a strong sheen but did not emphasize my skin’s natural texture. It lasted nicely for eight and a half hours on me. I had no trouble using this as an eyeshadow as well.

This is really gorgeous. It’s probably a skip for me, just because I have a dupe for Sand Castle and I can’t ever see myself using Mint’d Mojito.
Yes, I have Toasted from Naked 1 and I use that shade a lot. Mint shades are quite finicky in who they suit.
I am full of lies, lol. Went to Sephora and swatched this, Mint’d Mojito was just too stunning to pass up, and it gave me some inspiration towards how I want to do my makeup for my competition in July. I’ll probably end up grabbing the purple duo as well.
Argghhh I’m really drawn to this as an eyeshadow duo. They look so pretty layered. But I wanted to start a no-buy for the summer. I guess this is my first hurdle. $36 is a lot tho and I suppose the compact is highlighter size, meaning absolutely enormous for eyeshadow purposes.
Beautiful as eyeshadow, not so sure about the cheeks, though. Loving the eye look!
I do love this duo along with the purple one to use for some very glossy looking eye looks! Was in Sephora on Saturday playing with them on the back of my hand, doing “eye looks” with all 4 shades. Was totally blown away by the effects! Not frosty. Not glittery. But very blendable and had an almost creamy, glossy look when used in the gradient I put together. Question is: do I even need any more eyeshadows? Is there such a thing?
I hear you Nancy! But, so hard to resist!!! Lol.
This is a stunning duo – beautiful shades that work so well together. Fenty is really hittingi t out of the ball park with this season’s goodies. Love the combination.
I am loving all of these and the eye look you put together is stunning. I love these and feel like they would be the perfect shades for spring summer. I am glad that they are permanent so I will have some time to pick them up if I like what I see when I go to Spokane.
I won’t be getting this as I am all set with Anastasia and ColourPop highlighters. However, I love that they put these two shades together because it takes me back to one of my earliest makeup memories: my mom had two cream eyeshadow sticks by L’Oreal (the ones in gold tubes that cooled your eyelids!) in shades that looked very similar to how these shades look in the pan. I adored those things. I wore the blue shade to a wedding and felt like the coolest eleven-year-old ever.
I am sorry girls but these look so unflattering on temptalia skin (and she is a gorgeous lady)) I also do not understand why everyone places these highlighters on their eyelids, unless this is the only way to use those because as highlighters they will not look flattering on anybody unless you are performing on stage, circus etc. M.b. I’m wrong.
Hi Olga,
Here at Temptalia, we believe in having an open and accepting community – the point of my reviews is not at all about what is flattering or unflattering but merely giving readers insight into product performance. It is not about forcing one person’s standards of beauty onto others.
What may be unflattering to you or on me (though, for the record, I actually dug how this highlighter looked on me, and thankfully, I’ve learned to tune out unsolicited advice and just wear what I want!) may still be beautiful to someone else, so there’s no reason to relegate it to stage or circus makeup, since that’s obviously not at all the intended purpose.
Per the brand, their highlighters are designed to be used on the cheeks, face, and eyes. Please make sure to read the “Formula Overview” in the future, which will be the place you’d find information about the formula and a big picture overview of it (example, in this review, that section starts with: “The formula is supposed to have a “creamy texture” with a “mega-reflective, foil-like finish” that can be used on the “face, eyes, collarbone [or] anywhere you crave a touch of light.”).
I’m glad Christine was able to reply to your comment with dignity and grace, because this was one of the rudest comments I’ve seen on Temptalia in a very long time.
Christine — 1. The highlight is beautiful. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. 2. Thank you for making this a safe/accepting place to be. I’ve been a loyal follower for at least 8 years now, and in large part, it’s because of how you handle your blog, not just flawless reviews. (Although that certainly helps!) You’re the best.
I got this for eyeshadow and have been wearing it every day with light summery makeup looks!!! It’s gorgeous patted on lid all alone (either shade). I’m thrilled I picked it up!
That’s what I’ve been doing too! It makes me feel fresh and summery!
Another gorgeous duo. I’m loving the combinations Fenty is using for these.
