Rum
Fenty Beauty Rum Match Stix Shimmer SkinstickFenty Beauty Rum Match Stix Shimmer Skinstick ($25.00 for 0.25 oz.) is a medium-dark bronzy brown with warm, golden pearl. There was enough shimmer that it appeared almost metallic on the skin, though it was not glittery. It was richly pigmented and had a thin, powder-like texture that was easier to work with using warm, fingertips rather than a brush. It applied better over bare skin than foundation, as it did lift my foundation a touch if I wasn’t extremely careful (patting/tapping motions only). It wore well for eight hours on me.

Formula Overview

The formula is supposed to be long-wearing with a “light-as-air,” “blendable” texture that “lives to be layered." They twist-up and are medium-sized with a domed edge. I found that applying to my fingertips worked better than direct application, as it enabled me greater control over coverage level as well as placement, and if you tend to apply over foundation, then this will help keep the Match Stix cleaner, too.
The texture was thin, and it did seem to go from a “cream” in the tube to a more powder-like product once on the skin. They were fairly blendable with a few being more sparkly with less visible base color, which may not be for everyone, and others had a more pearl-like sheen that didn’t emphasize my skin’s natural texture. Most shades applied and blended out without lifting up foundation or pulling into pores (over bare skin), but the ones that did tended to have larger particles in them. They lasted between six and eight hours on me.
A problem I had throughout just swatching each shade on my cheeks for photos was that whatever was exposed was a bit dry, more powdery to the touch, and I felt like I had to really warm the product up and/or swipe it back and forth on the back of my hand to refresh the texture. This is not uncommon with drier, cream-based formulas, but it's still a downside and an area that could be improved upon. Some shades were very pigmented, others were medium and buildable, and a couple were sheerer.

Because I have MAC Shatf Of Gold, which is the most *perfect* version of this particular shade, I will skip on this one probably. Although, I’ve been hearing of some using these as eyeshadows, too? So, maybe for a gorgeous lid wash, this could work? ?
Possibly, though you could probably use Shaft of Gold as a sheer wash, too 😉
That looks nice on you!
Thank you, Erin!
Thank you Christine for these great Fenty reviews!!! I don’t think you know how much it means to have your honest reviews on these. I own almost the whole line (except trophy wife… now that highlighter is just too much) and i love all of it. In case anyone is wondering, no i am not a “Rihanna fan”. I know about Rihanna because she is in my fashion magazines and i think her fashion style is original. The reason why i bought the line is because as a woman of color (and i’m sure if you are a woman of color, you can understand this), there are so few options for us when it comes to foundations. I don’t think anyone ever really thinks about this thought but have you ever wondered why in MAC foundation, if you ask most black women light or dark skinned, they will say they are a NC45? It’s because of the undertone of the foundation. I should wear a NC55 but once the color settles, the undertone looks weird and muddy. Rihanna got the skin undertones correct for everything. That is why i made the leap and bought the line.
I think it’s important for everyone to remember that women of color have been excluded from top shelf make up lines for forever. Why can’t people be happy that black women have found a reason to hold their heads up, go to Sephora and find something that they know that they don’t have to “make it work”? Women of color want to feel beautiful and if this line helps us feel that, then why would you want to belittle it by saying “oh, i knew it would be awful. It’s just a celebrity line”? Why not be happy that women of color finally can feel beautiful? We have plenty of money and will spend it too if we feel that we can be catered to. I think that is why you finally see 50 million black women posting youtube tutorials on creating looks with Fenty. I don’t even care if it’s a poor quality video or if the person feels awkward doing it. I will watch it and hit like because i know that they finally can say “i feel beautiful and represented”.
I’m so glad that the brand launching made you (and others!) feel more included. I think that’s really amazing, and I love that Fenty is showing the entire industry that they’ve been ignoring a huge part of the market and should be changing their ways!
