Too Faced Under the Mistletoe Set Review, Photos, Swatches
Too Faced Under the Mistletoe Set
Too Faced Under the Mistletoe Set ($28.00 for 0.33 oz.) includes three shimmery takes on three of the brand’s La Creme Lip Creams. Each is full-sized, so the set contains $66 worth of lipstick. The glittering pink mini bag it comes doesn’t feel particularly well made, and it flakes glitter everywhere. The formula is supposed to be like their La Creme (highly pigmented, hydrating, smooth), just with shimmer. They’re not as thick or as creamy, and with two shades, you can feel some of the shimmer–not gritty or really rough, but you can feel it when applying. They have more of a semi-matte finish from a normal viewing distance, despite the shimmer.
Shimmering Naked Dolly is a gold-shimmered, muted peach with warm undertones. It had semi-opaque color coverage, and it had some slip but the consistency was thinner overall. This one didn’t seem to apply as well, and it looked streaky on the lips. The color wore well for two and a half hours on me and was lightly drying. Urban Decay Peroxide (DC, $22.00) is pinker. Tom Ford Beauty Frolic (P, $48.00) is sheerer, darker. MAC Innocence (LE, $16.00) is less shimmery. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Shimmering Marshmallow Bunny is a light-medium, yellow-toned pink with a shimmery finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation. It glided on without tugging on the lips, as it had an emollient feel, but the color tended to look streaky. If I pressed my lips together, it would create “lines” where the product would build-up. This shade lasted for two and a half hours and was neither drying nor hydrating. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Pleasure Model (P, $18.00) is lighter, more matte. L’Oreal Ballerina Shoes (135) (P, $8.95) is darker. Urban Decay Peroxide (DC, $22.00) is warmer. NYX Chic (P, $4.00) is darker. MAC Giddy (P, $16.00) is lighter. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
ShimmeringSpice Spice Baby is a reddish-coral with a light dusting of gold shimmer. It had semi-opaque color payoff, and the texture of this one was smoother–I didn’t notice the texture of the shimmer when applying–and it applied more evenly without looking streaky. It lasted for three and a half hours on me and was very lightly hydrating. Chanel Impulsive (132) (LE, $34.00) is darker. Urban Decay 5150 (DC, $22.00) is redder. Revlon Cruise Collection (P, $9.99) is slightly darker. Guerlain Pamplelune (P, $35.00) is similar. Guerlain Rouge Sensuel (LE, $51.00) is redder. Chanel Teheran (P, $34.00) is more shimmery, lighter. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

I hadn’t register that these where glitter versions of those shade. lol
Major pass! This would have been a good set of there classic shades though.
Haha, initially, I was like… I guess I’ll re-swatch these. Good thing I did, LOL!
me too! i kept reading shimmer, but it first popped up on macys and i didn’t want to order from there. So then i waited and am glad i did! I prefer matte or satin lipsticks, not overly creamy so to try these i prefer to spend less lol since they have a bit of slip .
What a disappointment! The regular La Creme lippies are my favorites because they are soooo comfortable. I like those shades, but I’ll pass
They have some similarities (like it doesn’t feel as if it’s a TOTALLY different formula), but I feel like if you LOVE La Creme for the creaminess, you might not like these!
I actually really like this set. Also, I don’t know what you did differently with your makeup but you look so young and glowing- beautiful!
Thanks, Agata!
You skin looks very defused here. 😉
I wonder if it’s because I swapped rooms – I moved all my lighting stuff into where I had my makeup room. It’s the coldest room in the house, and even though my lights don’t run very hot, I usually ended up with a little sheen before, haha.
Eeep, the first one looks gritty! I like the colour on the last one; might have to pick up one of the dupes.
Definitely a noticeable texture to it… not really full on gritty, but you can feel the shimmer!
<3 ya Christine! You are saving me money left and right by being so honest in your reviews 🙂
Happy to help!
These are pretty disappointing. I really liked all the original La Creme lipsticks.
Me too!
No! The frostiness! 🙁
I was so looking forward to this set too before I found out that it was shimmery. 🙁
🙁
I don’t know whether to be disappointed that these are so poor, or be happy that I can skip them and save my money for something better.
LOL!
It’s too bad the formula isn’t that great. The colors look so pretty and it’s a great value too. I’ll stick with the ones I have
It’s such a great value, so I was bummed!
Sad to see that they underperform compare to the original formula but I think they still look good on you Christine!
Thanks, JJ!
UGH SHIMMER LIPSTICK
That bag might be fun to give my niece though. It seems very teenybopper.
It sheds glitter everywhere, LOL! It was driving me nuts!
I actually like the shimmer… I have so many similar shades to the first 2, but they lack shimmer, so theae will be something different-which is why I never bothered to try the “originals”. At this price, though, they may well end up on my “list”-plus my 8-year-old will LOVE the little bag! And, I can also slip in the third shade…
I like shimmery shades myself, but I didn’t like the way these performed.
Definite pass on these!
It’s such a bummer, ’cause the value is great!
Really wish they had included maybe a red lipstick or even a berry shade. While red lipstick may not be everyone’s cup of tea, I do think it’s a lot more universally flattering than these shades — which don’t ever show up on me. Plus, it would seem a lot more holiday themed, IMO.
It is an odd mix of shades, I think. Could have done more of a berry or plum?
That Papa Don’t Peach blush looks lovely on you!
Thanks, Iris!
A set of three frosts is a bit much. Variety would’ve been nice.
I’d just have liked a better formula!
Love the bag but these are not the kind of shades that tend to agree with me. Maybe Spice Spice Baby wouldn’t be so bad but I just haven’t figured out nude lipstick
Aww, that is too bad! 🙁
Ick! That visible sparkle! Not for me. So glad to see the review before risking this set!!! Thanks.
Glad I could help!
Phew, glad I passed on these!
I wish this set was better – such a great deal!
I actually kind of like the gold shimmer! But the first two would look awful on me, so I’m going to have to pass. Maybe if it were a holiday red or something….
I don’t mind the shimmer in and of itself, but it’s more that the addition of it has made the formula quite unlike it’s supposed to be!
Woohoo! A holiday item I can pass on without second thoughts.
Yay!
WOW I’m disappointed! I did not read that carefully and I really wanted it too. Good thing I didn’t place my order yet.
Phew!
Am I the only one that’s dying over Shimmering Naked Dolly???? It looks gorgeous on you, Christine! I’ve always wanted a lip product that was similar to the color of NARS Orgasm blush and this might be it!!!
It’s a pretty color!
It’s really too bad that the formulas are a miss, because the shades are lovely IMO (especially Shimmering Naked Dolly). The collection is very “sweet” if that makes sense. I think it’s really appropriate for the holidays – almost reminds me of the nutcracker – sugar plum fairies and such.
I like the colors, too, but sad they didn’t perform as well!
Darn! I wish these were the regular versions of the lipsticks. The shimmer is pretty, but not really my thing.
I bet if they were, the set would fly off the shelves!
I love the golden glow on Dolly, too bad it sinks into lip lines. I wonder how it would perform over a nude lipstick. Marshmallow Bunny could be a nice nude type color, but it does nothing to enhance the lips. Spice Spice Baby looks pretty on you. Too bad the quality just isn’t there or I think I’d like to try them. The pink glitter-tastic case is adorable, but not if it sheds all over…
I really haven’t encountered too many glittery bags that don’t, so they all frustrate me, lol!
I was so excited for these it’s such a shame they’re so glittery!
Aw!
OMG so I rarely ever comment. I really wanted to love these! I had high hopes for them and wanted to buy them. I have never owned a La Creme lippie. I thought this was like 3 for the price of 1 so why not lol. But thanks so much for the swatches. I guess I’ll look forward to something else!
No problem, Jessica!
Teenaged me would be all over this. Alas, not everyone can handle frosty overload. I’m glad you’re reviewing the Too Faced holiday sets because now I can use up my Christmas wishes on other things haha
Glad I can help, May!
Aww, that bag looked so cute 🙁 I suspected the glitter might not be 100% stable, but it’s always sad to have it confirmed… 😛
It’s funny – the shades aren’t ones that I would necessarily go for normally…but then they look nice in a shimmery way up close… but then from a distance they look kind of strangely matte-frosty!
Nevertheless, you look lovely in them as always, damn you! LOL! 😀
Yes — they have this matte-frost finish! Which is probably one of the hardest finishes to wear.
I had just placed an order for this because the value CAD$33 for 3 lipsticks! was just too good to pass up! It’s too bad the quality isn’t there 🙁
Hope you still like ’em!
Shimmering Spice is the best out of these. I’ll be passing on the set.
It was the best of the three!
I was really, REALLY hoping that these would be good! :'(
Me too!
I just want the bag! Ugh, it’s so cute!
I bet you could find one like it!
Wow, these look awful.. They look not even close to being as hydrating or creamy as the original! I was pretty sad these came in colours unsuitable to my skin tone, but thankfully I’m not missing out on much.
I was surprised at how they felt in comparison!
I actually enjoy frosty shades from time to time, but I think you’ve convinced me that I’d rather have the set that comes with two lipsticks, the liner, and lip primer mini. I think I’d get more wear out of the non-shimmers. I’m hoping I can snag at least either of these sets because I’ve never tried La Creme lipsticks before!
Happy to help, Brittany!
I do love my La Creme Lip Creams, but I’ll have to pass on this set.
The only one that looks good to me is Spice Spice Baby.
Disappointing that these lippies didn’t do well.
Maybe if Too Faced has used bolder or darker shades, the shimmer would look better and less frosty.
I wish these were more pigmented/hydrating!
Thanks for the review! I was somewhat curious, but these colors are all WAY too light and sheer for me. Yay! Something I can cross off my massive, massive want list. ;>
So glad I could help, Madelyn!
OMG!!! Your skin! You look amazing!!! You have such a healthy, beautiful, radiant glow. Would you say it’s the foundation, loose powder or another product you used? Whatever it is, I need it in my life. You look gorgeous! I can’t get over that glow.
Thank you, Melissa! Probably the powder, since it is doing a lot of mattifying/smoothing!
I bought it before checking your review and now im not sure if I would like them :/ I think I would give em a try and if I really dont like them (I do have very dry lips tho :0), sephora does have wonderful return policy 😀
Keep me posted, Maya!
On one hand, I’m all “Aw, but I like shimmery lipsticks better.” I think that’s what’s kept me from even looking at the formula.
On the other hand, I picked up 5150 recently and continue to troll ebay for a tube of Peroxide, so I’m likely to have both the UD dupes for these, sooner or later, anyway.
Hope you get your Peroxide 🙂
I wish the color choices were a bit more varied and flattering (the shimmer gives a slight patchy look). I do like the sparkly pouch though!
It would be nice if they had done a darker shade, too!
I do kind of like them, at least on you, Christine. Then I do love my shimmery lipsticks. (Un)fortunately they are the wrong colour for me, I also don’t have any lipsticks from Too Faced. I do have ano old lipgloss, not in use anymore, I keep it because it’s so pretty. I used to love it! 🙂
Their regular La Cremes are much better!
Yay. PASS. i.e ill pass on it.
Happy to help!
Too bad, that is a fantastic price for 3 full sized lipsticks. I really like Shimmering Spice Spice Baby but it wouldn’t be worth it for me to buy it just for the 1 product. I also hate when bags, etc get glitter or sequence all over. Have to pass on this one.
It is a great deal!
You look so extra youthful in these shots! I’ll be passing on the products though, hehe
Thanks, Maddie!
Not a fan of the shimmery shades for myself, but they do look nice on you! I really can’t wait for some of the new holiday Too Faced products!
xo,
Jenny
Thanks, Jenny!
I actually think these look much, much better than other products that get higher ratings. I guess if they feel gritty though…They do look good. Flattering, imo.
I’m rating on quality, not whether it looks pretty (or not) 🙂
Hmm, I’m not big into shimmer ~so I’ll pass on these! THanks for the review!
No prob, Elise!
I was really tempted to buy this set a few days back but decided to wait and now I know I made good choice, I only liked the last shade. Thanks for the review!
So glad I could help, Yackiie!
I was wondering why you had given them such a lower rating because I thought you liked the La Creme formula…. and then I finally found it. Shimmer version. *groan*. I was really looking forward to this set because I use Naked Dolly and Marshmallow Bunny literally everyday. I’m super pale so these shades are perfect for me. I’m a little let down that they are shimmer versions, thanks for letting me know because I totally skipped over that part, probably due to my excitement. Hopefully my local Sephora store carries these so I can swatch them before I buy them. I think I might still pick them up.
No prob, Steph! I hope you can check ’em out for yourself. If you really dig the colors, it may still be worth checking out!
I like it! 🙂 they’re lovely.
Question: Is the first picture taken application and the second once it’s settled? I still don’t quite get what you’re doing showing it twice, so I’m asking if you can please clarify? Thank you! 🙂
I know I replied to this on another post, but just in case – first one is direct light, one is indirect/diffused light.
Oh, yes you did! But I had forgotten so, thank you! I see! 😀
