Estee Lauder Naked Gold Pure Color Envy Defining Wet/Dry Eyeshadow
Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Defining Wet/Dry Eyeshadow ($25.00 for 0.06 oz.) is a formula that promises six hours of sheer color applied dry or eight hours of rich color applied damp. It’s available in over twenty shades–I have four of them, shown below–in a variety of finishes. They feel finer and silkier compared to Estee Lauder’s wet/dry Gelee formulation.
Estee Lauder Insolent Ivory Pure Color Envy Defining Wet/Dry Eyeshadow ($25.00 for 0.06 oz.) is a pop of light ivory with a satin finish. It goes on a lot lighter than it looks in the pan. Applied dry, it was semi-sheer, and then applied damp, it was mostly opaque. The texture was soft, smooth, and lightly powdery when used dry. It wore for five hours dry, six and a half hours damp. MAC Chill (LE, $17.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). MAC This or That #1 (LE, $21.00) is warmer (95% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty The Mod #1 (PiP, ) is more shimmery (95% similar). Too Faced Purr (LE, $16.00) is darker (95% similar). Hello Kitty Milk (LE, ) is cooler (90% similar). bareMinerals Silhouette (LE, ) is more shimmery (90% similar). LORAC Ghostly (LE, $19.00) is cooler (90% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Estee Lauder Uninhibited Pure Color Envy Defining Wet/Dry Eyeshadow ($25.00 for 0.06 oz.) is a light-medium peach with warm undertones and a semi-matte finish. It was very powdery, and I had the same, semi-sheer coverage whether applied dry or damp. The only difference that I could find was that damp application caused it to apply even more unevenly and look patchy on the lid. It applied more smoothly when used damp and didn’t emphasize the texture of the lid that way. It lasted for five hours dry, five hours damp.
Tarte Barefoot in the Grass (LE, ) is lighter (95% similar). Urban Decay ABC Gum (DC, $19.00) is darker (95% similar). Sugarpill Heart-Shaped Cookie (PiP, $13.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). KVD Beauty Vespertine (PiP, ) is darker (95% similar). Too Faced Lace Teddy (PiP, $16.00) is darker (95% similar). bareMinerals Magnate (LE, ) is more shimmery (95% similar). Sephora Walking in the Sand (DC, $10.00) is lighter (95% similar). LORAC Fawn (LE, $19.00) is lighter (95% similar). Inglot #330 (P, $6.00) is lighter (95% similar). Viseart Peche II (PiP, ) is lighter, brighter (95% similar). Urban Decay Stark (PiP, $19.00) is darker (95% similar). ColourPop Catch Me (PiP, $4.50) is less shimmery, darker, cooler (90% similar). Becca Ombre Nudes #1 (PiP, ) is darker, warmer (90% similar). Dior Matte Nude (PiP, ) is lighter (90% similar). bareMinerals Empress (LE, ) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). bareMinerals Natural (LE, ) is lighter (90% similar). Urban Decay Caution (PiP, $19.00) is less shimmery, darker (85% similar). Chanel Jardins de Lumieres #2 (LE, ) is more shimmery, lighter (85% similar). Estee Lauder Naked Gold Pure Color Envy Defining Wet/Dry Eyeshadow ($25.00 for 0.06 oz.) is a medium, tarnished gold with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. Applied dry, it had semi-sheer color coverage with a softer, more frost-like finish, and it wore well for six hours before fading. Applied damp, it was nicely pigmented with a stronger sheen that lasted for eight hours on me. The texture is a little dusty to work with, so I preferred using it damp for easiest application. Chanel Rêve d'Orient #3 (LE, ) is lighter (95% similar). ColourPop Get Lucky (P, $6.00) is darker, warmer (95% similar). ColourPop The Game (LE, $4.50) is darker, cooler (95% similar). L'Oreal Gold Imperial (LE, $7.99) is more shimmery (95% similar). Urban Decay Strike (LE, $19.00) is less shimmery, darker (95% similar). Estee Lauder Insolent Ivory Pure Color Envy Defining Wet/Dry Eyeshadow ($25.00 for 0.06 oz.) is a muted, dark brown with subtle, warm undertones–almost like a plummy brown, but it leans rather brown–paired with a semi-matte finish. Applied dry, it had sheer coverage with a powdery consistency that was challenging to blend, but it wore well for five and a half hours (out of the six promised!). Applied damp, it was semi-opaque, but it was still harder to blend as it looked a bit uneven applied; it lasted for seven hours. Inglot J317 Eggplant (LE, $10.00) is lighter (95% similar). Looks like the shimmers perform better than the mattes. I was really interested in these when I first spied them a little while back. They’ve been sitting in my cart. Still debating. I think I’d go for the colors rather than the neutrals. The pink and lilac ones look amazing. 🙂
Which ones did you put in your cart, Kimmy?
Naked Gold is gorgeous, but the rest are meh, not that impressive. I do like the convenient packaging, with the mirror and applicator, great for on-the-go touch ups. I was eyeing the blues and purples. Christine, are you planning to review more shades?
These are all I have right now, and I don’t have any immediate plans to purchase them, but maybe someday.
Naked Gold looks really pretty. I liked how Strong Currant looked in the pan but the swatches turned out to be pretty disappointing. It looks too sheer and dry for me
I wish Strong Currant was more burgundy!
The gold is really beautiful.
It is!
The gold one is pretty, but eminently dupeable from my own stash already! Lol.
Haha! Same 🙂
Funny how the only shade to receive an A grade here is one that I own multiple dupes for! That gold IS pretty! But the rest? At $25 a pop for a single shadow, I won’t bother unless it’s an A, or at minimum an A- but super pretty and UNIQUE looking. These other 3 are neither.
I was hoping for more 🙁
Strong Currant is quite disappointing, it looked like it had a lot of promise in the pan. With “currant” in the name I would have expected the plum in it to be stronger.
I was surprised at how brown it was, too!
Interesting range of finishes and ratings. Love the gold colour – it is beautiful. I would like to see how EL does darker or more jewelled colours.
In most eye shadow palettes there is a gold – I have Strike from Vice 2 (that I love) and Remix in the Playlist which I haven’t used a lot. If you were seriously after a gold, I would buy the Sephora Collection one – much cheaper and of equal quality. Most of the colours above are easily dupable and inhabit a lot of our stashes.
The line seems pretty large, so I might pick up some of the other ones at some point to see if they’re better.
2/4 do not run true to pan @ all. That can be misleading, if you shop online, and suggests many in this formula may be that way. BTW Snakeskin Dress is being closed out @ Sephora, so jump now, ladies, or regret.
I was VERY surprised. The difference in the ivory one is crazy to me.
I have Silver Edge,Fearless Petal,Hyper Teal from this line and I love these three so far, they’re all shine metallic shade tho and I’m so happy that I don’t purchased any matte colors! although I’m so disappointed with Strong Currant because this color was in my wanted list,I want them to have a bit of plum like in the pan!
Thank you! Might have to check the other shimmery shades – the mattes/satins seemed more disappointing.
I’m so disappointing! I was hoping that Strong Currant would be more purple.
Same here!
