Lava

Estee Lauder Lava Hi-Lustre Light Sculpting Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.12 oz.) is bright, medium-dark fuchsia red with subtle, cooler undertones and a creamy, lightly glossy finish. It almost looked like a “warm” fuchsia as it had so much red in it. The consistency was smooth, lightweight, creamy but not slippery, and comfortable to wear. It had nearly opaque pigmentation, though, which was a lot more than described, but some might prefer it that way. There was a bit of color that pulled into my lip lines, though it wasn’t noticeable from a normal viewing distance. This shade wore nicely for six hours, left a stain behind, and was moisturizing.

The formula is supposed to have medium coverage with a lustrous finish. It takes the Pure Color Envy formula and adds shimmer to it with the end result varying from lightly pearlized to more frosted and near-metallic. The shimmer was finer in size, so the lipsticks did not feel gritty on the lips, and the particles didn’t migrate as the lipstick wears down. The coverage was more semi-opaque to opaque, though a lighter hand could achieve medium coverage. It was lightly creamy with some slip that became more noticeable as the formula warmed up against the lips. The wear ranged from four to six hours and was typically hydrating. The formula featured a vanilla scent but had no discernible taste.

The formula is supposed to have medium coverage with a lustrous finish. The shimmer was finer in size, so the lipsticks did not feel gritty on the lips, and the particles didn’t migrate as the lipstick wore down.

The coverage ranged from semi-sheer to nearly opaque, so it really depended on the shade on how true it was to medium coverage. The formula felt lightly creamy, thinner but not clingy, and with just enough slip to be comfortable to apply and to wear without feeling slippery during wear. The shades lasted from four to six hours and usually hydrating while worn.

The formula had a vanilla scent but no discernible taste.

Raging Beauty

Estee Lauder Raging Beauty Hi-Lustre Light Sculpting Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a dark, plummy brown with flecks of gold sparkle. The texture of this shade had more slip, felt less cream-like, and had noticeably larger sparkle, which gave it a rougher feel going on the lips. It had medium coverage, though, which was true to the brand’s claims, that went on somewhat evenly. It lasted for four hours and was lightly hydrating.

Both nice. EL must have bought a long ton of plum/brown pigment. The first 7 of 10 dupes are EL products. MAC O is a classic, for sure. Lots of choices with tweaks….nice.

The very instant I saw Lava in the lip swatch, I knew that it was a super close dupe of UD Catfight! That same red-fuchsia shade that can be worn redder or pinker depending on lip pencil used, clothing color worn, even the lighting affects how it looks.

Raging Beauty is exactly that. But reminds me of many shades on my wishlist. Although I’ve got a feeling it would look really good on me.

Speaking of which, I got to try Naked Truth and Tiger Eye on last night. Tiger Eye looked great, but the one I had my heart set on needs help to make it work. It looks quite light on me (the bane of my existence is nude/naked lipsticks that look too pale on me! ?) but I still want it, I just need to find the perfect lip liner for it. (Why???)

Lava would be a STUNNING summery lipstick!! I could see it with a golden brown eye look, and lots of lashes!!! YUM!

My eye was super drawn to Raging Beauty too!! That would be a beautiful fall shade imo!! I’d love to wear it with a cooler eye look!!
