Mellow Shade (447)

Dior Mellow Shade (447) High Fidelity Colours & Effects Eyeshadow Palette ($63.00 for 0.24 oz.) is a new, limited edition set of more pastel-hued shades for spring. The quality was decent, but the shade that really dropped the ball was the deeper blue hue, as it was drier and didn’t blend out seamlessly along the edge (and looked dry applied). As the four of the shades are more pastel, they may work better over an eyeshadow primer or base to get true-to-pan color that’s more long-lasting, especially on medium and darker skin tones.

Mellow Shade #1

Mellow Shade #1 is a pale, golden green with warm undertones and a pearly sheen. It had semi-opaque pigmentation applied dry, which was somewhat improved using a dampened brush, but I felt a dampened brush also darkened it by a shade. The texture was smooth, dense without being too firm or stiff, and blendable. It wore well for seven hours on me before fading noticeably.

Mellow Shade #2

Mellow Shade #2 is a pale, peachy beige base with flecks of gold to pink shifting pearl. It had good color coverage that adhered evenly to bare skin and blended out with ease along the edges. The consistency was smooth to the touch, a little drier and dusty, but it wasn’t prone to fallout and seemed to “melt” slightly on my eye. It stayed on well for seven and a half hours on me before I noticed any fading.

Mellow Shade #3

Mellow Shade #3 is a muted, medium yellow with subtle, warm undertones and a satiny sheen. It had opaque pigmentation applied both wet and dry, though the drier application sheered out a touch due to the drier, thinner texture. The eyeshadow was blendable and buildable enough that I could pat a touch more on top to get full coverage again. It lasted nicely for seven and a half hours on me before there were signs of fading.

Mellow Shade #4

Mellow Shade #4 is a light-medium coral-orange with warm undertones and a pearly sheen. It had opaque color payoff that applied well to bare skin with a smooth, blendable texture that was firm in the pan without being stiff or difficult to pick up with a brush. It wore well for seven and a half hours on my lid before fading noticeably.

Mellow Shade #5

Mellow Shade #5 is a muted, navy blue with a black base and a subtle, pearly sheen. It had a drier, dustier consistency that I found more difficult to diffuse and blend out without it appearing as a more ragged edge. It had medium coverage, which was buildable to opaque pigmentation with three layers or applied with a dampened brush. this shade stayed on well for seven hours before I noticed fading.

This assortment really whispers (it’s too subtle to SCREAM) “SPRINGTIME” so in that sense, it looks pretty to me but I don’t wear these colours in makeup or in clothing (they remind me a bit of “mother of the bride” colours – inoffensive, “good taste” and I’m really not a pastels kinda gal). I was expecting #5 to be (a) more brilliant teal and (b) better quality – – – so sad that it’s only a C.

Really pretty pastel palette. So sorry the grey/blue shade didn’t come up to par. I think if it had the palette would have worked better. It really needed a darker shade to give depth to the look. I was hoping they would name the yellow shade, “Yellow Submarine”.

I maybe wrong, but, these colors are reminiscent of a spring/summer palette a few seasons ago. After seeing it in person, I found the palette boring, and the performance poor. This is a pass for me as well.

Looks lovely that green and peachy and even yellow but I do not wish for another blue and quite frankly is asking for too much. ITV reminds me of the Fergie/WetnWild eyeshadows I ordered them all from Walmart few years ago and they have a punch! Love them actually one has shimmer the others without in each case. Darn it they pack a lot of color I still love the peach, purple and a gorgeous green they included, also yellow those have been my favorites from WetnWild. Beautiful shades.
