Earthy Canvas (553)

Dior Earthy Canvas (555) 3 Couleurs Tri(o)blique ($63.00 for 0.11 oz.) is a new, limited edition trio that features two, shimmery golds and one pearly brown. There was enough differentiation in depth, undertone, and finish between the two golds that they didn’t feel totally redundant, though I think a richer, deeper gold might have worked in place of #1 for more versatility. The first two shades were decent but needed primer and/or wet brush for better application, while the third shade was great on its own.

Earthy Canvas #1

Earthy Canvas #1 is a medium gold with warm undertones and a pearly sheen. It had good pigmentation that was buildable to full coverage with a second layer. The texture was soft, lightly powdery, and a touch on the dry side, though it wasn’t prone to sheering out or having fallout during application. It wore well for seven and a half hours on me before fading noticeably.

Formula Overview

The formula is supposed to have "bold colour impact" where a "little product goes a long way" and the "powders glide on." Most of the shades in the Trios were pigmented, blendable, and easy enough to work with. Some of the very sparkly shades had light to moderate fallout during application and sometimes during wear. The texture ran slightly more powdery, slightly softer than average but was never messy to work with or prone to sheering out. They lasted between seven and eight hours on me.

Earthy Canvas #2

Earthy Canvas #2 is a rich, medium-dark gold with warm undertones and pink and gold sparkle over a metallic finish. It had a much more sparkly finish than I can recall Dior doing much in the past, and thankfully, the base felt a little creamier and denser, which helped most of the product adhere to bare skin and lessened fallout (but there was slight during application). It had good color coverage but needed to be applied with fingertips or a wet brush for maximum coverage. It stayed on well for eight hours but had some fallout over time.

Earthy Canvas #3

Earthy Canvas #3 is a medium-dark brown with warmer undertones and fine gold and plum pearl that gave it a pearly sheen. The texture was soft, blendable, and smooth without being too powdery nor too firmly pressed in the pan. It had opaque pigmentation in a single layer, which adhered well to bare skin. On me, it lasted nicely for eight hours before fading visibly.

I am a little bit disappointed in this trio, as I agree with you Christine, that there could have been more differentiation between the two golds. And secondly, the golds weren’t of stellar quality either. I don’t even think that two golds were necessary either, one of them could have been a lovely bronze shade.

I have UD Barely Baked and never really use it. I like shade 2 the best as the undertone appeals to me more and it appears slightly more shimmery. I really like shade 3 although I don’t have any of the listed dupes, I am pretty sure I have some in one of my palettes. Overall, I would probably pick up shade 2 if it was sold alone but not sure about the price when only really going to use 2 shades. I do still really like that the whole name, Christian Dior is on the middle shade. To me it just classes it up but I know it is totally irrelevant.

Forget the golds, that brown is gorgeous. I’m not going to buy the trio to get it, far to expensive to do that. It’s a pity that almost all the dupes are DC or LE and the rest are in palettes. It’s an eye shadow though so I can live without it, doesn’t mean I don’t want it. I rarely feel this when it comes to browns, so I guess, Well Done Dior!
