Dior Blue Velvet (189) Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches
Blue Velvet (189)
Dior Blue Velvet (189) 5 Couleurs Couture Eyeshadow Palette ($62.00 for 0.24 oz.) is a new, limited edition blue-hued color story that included two more shimmery shades and three more matte shades. It was one of the lower-performing palettes of the new Velvet palettes released due to the more matte shades being on the powdery side and therefore sheering out.

Formula Overview
-
The formula is supposed to have a "creamy and comfortable texture" that is long-wearing and has "intense color" (or "high-pigment"). There are five finishes that can be found within various palettes: matte, satin, shimmer, metallic, highlighter, and glitter, though there aren't specific descriptions by finish, unfortunately.
There were a few shades that seemed more sparkly and were sheerer, more like layering shades, while the other finishes tended to be pigmented. In general, the texture was moderately dense with the matte shades being slightly thinner and a smidgen powdery in the pan compared to the satin, shimmer, and metallic shades.
Aside from those more sparkly shades, the formula was blendable, pigmented, easy to work with, and lasted an average of eight hours on me (without a primer).

- Medium pigmentation
- Overly emollient, somewhat powdery
- Prone to sheering out, light fallout
- Long-wearing (eight hours on average for this formula)

These are the types of blue shades that are a bit more easy for me to pull off due to the purplish hue in three of the shades, but still very tricky, as they can clash with my skintone. And so, I feel like this is one I will pass on. Besides, I have much better, more flattering blues already.
#2 is quite pretty and once the dupes are up, I hope (but actually doubt) that I will have a dupe for it. But the overall look and colour choices of this 5-pan doesn’t make a lot of sense and doesn’t really attract me at all.
Dupes are up now, sorry about that!
No need to apologize, Christine. You always manage to “fix” missing dupes within a pretty short time! As I feared, I don’t have any dupes/near dupes (but then I don’t really like or wear much in the way of blue eyeshadows so probably would get almost no use from this 5-pan and it’s a pricey thing to buy for just one shadow of questionable usefulness).
Nah – this doesn’t impress me much! I guess Dior is going with a fabric thing – Red Tartan, Blue Velvet etc.
But this monotone has something a bit meh about it – shades are so muted and the quality not quite worth the price.
So beautiful colors, sad they don’t have the quality!
I quite like the first two colours, but not enough to buy the quint.
These look like blues I could actually wear. But for $62, no thank you. I’ll wait for a dupe.
