The movie is a SCREAM. It’s dated now, of course, but Bette Midler is, well, just hilarious and fantastic and the pre-Sex in the City Sarah Jessica Parker is far more bearable (at least to me) than the Sex in the City Sarah Jessica Parker. It’s a fun movie!

Honestly I’m so disappointed. Hocus Pocus is the epitome of Halloween and even then Colourpop makes a boring ass palette. I love the matte burgundy, purple and green and the shimmery green and that’s it. Such a waste of amazing packaging :/ I love the movie but this is a major skip, unfortunately.

right! its a classic must see halloween movie of all time! i wanted poison vibrant greens and insane purples and deepest darkest spookiest black and just the most sickk colors that would screammm Hocus Pocus!!!! I will buy it tho for the packaging just bummed about the lack luster of it all 🙁

I am so disappointed in this palette. The packaging is great but the colors fall flat for me. Honestly the So Jaded palette seems more Hocous Pocus focused than the actual palette they created. That and the 3 shades of red? Only thing done right is the liners. Collection is a hard pass.

Thank you for the swatches! This might have been an interesting palette if CP hadn’t been pushing out new products/palettes/sets practically daily or at least weekly for the past year. Ultimately, there’s nothing new here. Easy pass.

I was kinda thinking the same thing, just not nearly as good as moon spell, unfortunately, cuz I’m a HUUUUGE Hocus Pocas and Halloween fan!!! Who isn’t, though, lol

Lauren Avatar

Was anyone else disappointed there’s not a single thing called Billy???
This collection looks more like what Hot Topic would do. I kinda expected better from Colourpop. I saw the teaser, and was ready to purchase the whole bundle. Now maybe just the lipsticks and eye liners.

It seems that Colourpop can no longer do anything lately other than neutral palettes with a pop of green. This looks like one of the Disney Princess palettes (Midnight Masquerade). What a shame, I wanted to pick it up but I already have all these colors!

Ahhhhh I want this collection so bad even though I don’t need the palette and would never use the body glitter. But do I want it all? YES. Realistically, I’m going to get one lipstick and the eyeliners. That said, how dare they sneak a pressed glitter back into a palette!!!! I am disappointed lol. And can brands stop giving us glitter matte black shadows. Now if they switched it up and gave us a glittery matte black super shock shadow, that palette would be in my cart stat.

Lindsay Avatar

They should have hired you to help with this. I think even a SS highlighter that had the iridescent green. Also yes to the BooOOOOOK shade name! Such missed opportunities

I want all three lipsticks mostly because I’m obsessed with the packaging. I love Hocus Pocus, its one of my favorite movies but the palette doesn’t scream Hocus Pocus or Halloween to me at all. I love the packaging though so might pick it up just for that. At least CP is much more affordable so I can live with myself if I buy the palette just for the awesome Hocus Pocus theme.

Genevieve Avatar

This is a freshening change for CP – away from those pastel themed palettes. The lipsticks look interesting and I even think there are a couple of shades that I like.
The eye palette, however, is still filled with pinks and reds – someone really likes this shade at CP. I find Yabbos to be the shade I like the best.

From the packaging sneak peek on Instagram, I got my hopes way up for something like Viseart Dark Mattes. This is the biggest Colourpop disappointment of the year for me.

Leo Avatar

I love the shade names—I had a good chuckle there—but they don’t seem to make any sense when paired with the actual color. (Like, why is Yabbos THAT color? And why isn’t Tis Firm the black shade?? It’s haphazard nonsense.)

And the whole collection just isn’t that original.
No. Hocus Pocus and it’s fans deserve better.

They had such a vivid palette from the movie to work with, I’m surprised they didn’t push the envelope a little. This could have been an amazing jewel tone/halloween/gothy palette. I’ll try to get the liners, since they seem to fit the theme the most (and since most of their other liners have been out of stock forever.)

Shawne Avatar

This is the first ColourPop palette that has interested me in almost a year, tbh. Maybe it’s the packaging, but it’s probably the olive green tones that I have so many of. I would still get this!

This clearly wasn’t created by a true fan of the movie and Halloween, otherwise the palette would be much bolder, daring and fun! Disappointed. Hopefully someday someone else will do it justice.

Oh you sons of bitches! You had me 100% on board until I saw a pressed glitter in there. This REALLY bums me out. I’m not one for watching childish movies as an adult (unless it’s WITH your kid), but this one still feels the most like fall/halloween to me when I think about it.

I would have 100% purchased the eye palette if it didn’t have a pressed glitter. Aside from you, Christine, I know personally one person who got glitter from an “eye safe” shadow in their eye and it caused a raging infection. Pass. Always pass. Even if I never touched it in the course of using the palette, the risk of pieces falling in to other shadows isn’t worth it.

Fuck off with pressed glitters in eyeshadow palettes. You want to make them? Make them as separate singles or their own pressed glitter palette.

There must be someone who have chocked on candy but that doesn’t make people stop producing candy. Or swimming pools. Seems you have a good mitigation strategy in place. Let the rest of humanity enjoy their candy.

Good: It swatches better than some of the more recent Colour Pop items have lately. The eyeliners at least look interesting (but I’m not an eyeliner person so not interesting enough to tempt me into trying). And even though it definitely smacks of some prior releases and the Too Faced Pumpkin Spice (to me at least), it’s not as bad as when MAC “released” a Disney collection that was just their permanent collection items still in their normal packaging.

Not-so-good: It doesn’t feel like they took any real tonal inspiration from the colors in the movie itself – it feels more like they took their Garden Variety palette, knocked each color down about three shades, subbed black for white and randomly slapped Hocus Pocus-related names on them. The lipsticks also don’t look that great to me – I’m guessing they are intended to be matte? They seem to really accentuate any texture/lines to the point I had to click further to verify which one was the lipstick and which one was the lip liner. That’s really disappointing because I’ve really enjoyed a lot of their bullet lipsticks.
