ColourPop What a Hoot Shadow Quad Review & Swatches
What a Hoot
ColourPop What a Hoot Pressed Powder Quad ($12.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a new, limited edition foursome that includes one pressed glitter and three eyeshadows in a warmer, more neutral color story. This, along with the rest of the Animal Crossing collaboration, launch January 28th at 10AM PT on ColourPop’s website and February 14th at Ulta.
I wish the brand had included a Super Shock Shadow instead of a glitter, since I think they can achieve a similar look and feel with that, which would have made the palette more versatile and appeal to a broader audience. While I expected this to be the best performing from all the quads, it was actually the worst as only one eyeshadow was good with the rest more inconsistent. The glitter was also harder to disperse and apply evenly (usually a strength of ColourPop’s pressed formula).

Meteor Shower
Meteor Shower seemed to have a peach-tinged base with flecks of finer gold shimmer and more medium-sized glitter particles–a mix of gold and iridescent. This shade contained plastic (PET) glitter, which is not intended for use around the eye area. The texture was more emollient, so there was some tackiness, and it felt more like a cream-based formula. The larger glitter pieces did not disperse as evenly as they normally do in this formula, which was a disappointment. It had sheer to semi-sheer coverage that wore decently for eight hours with some migration.

Celestial (What a Hoot)
Celestial (What a Hoot) is a medium, yellowed peach with strong, warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. There seemed to be pink and copper micro-sparkle throughout, but they hardly translated, which was likely due to the texture being quite powdery and prone to sheering out. You’ll definitely want to apply this shade before base products and be prepared to clean up some fallout. It had more medium, somewhat buildable, pigmentation that lasted for seven hours before fading noticeably on me.

Formula Overview
$4.50/0.05 oz. - $90.00 Per Ounce
The new Pressed Powder Shadow formula is supposed to be “highly pigmented” with an “ultra-velvety and silky” texture that is “long-wearing” and “adheres easily to the eyes.” Most of the shades have semi-opaque to opaque pigmentation that applies well to bare skin, blends out without issue, and lasts for seven to eight hours.
The matte eyeshadows tend to be a little more powdery, though soft and finely-milled, in the pan, while the shimmers have a creamier, dense consistency. Occasionally, the more sparkly or metallic shades apply better with fingertips or a dampened brush.

All Aflutter
All Aflutter is a medium-dark copper with warmer, brown undertones and a sparkling finish. It had a more loosely-pressed texture, which resulted in some of the larger sparkles blending further away from the base, which resulted in a less-precise lay down of product and some fallout. The eyeshadow had mostly opaque pigmentation but was best applied with a fingertip or a dampened brush for full opacity and minimal fallout. It stayed on decently for eight hours but had light fallout over time.

Who
Who is a medium-dark brown with subtle, warm red undertones and a matte finish. The eyeshadow had opaque color coverage with a slightly firmer texture, though it picked up well with a brush and blended out without difficulty. It wore nicely for eight hours before fading visibly.

Uggghhh. 👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼
I love Blathers and Celeste and they messed this one up so badly. Ugh is right!
It’s as if CP put absolutely no effort into this one at all….
Awwww, the owls are so cute and the eyeshadow is so bad.
Unfortunate choice of name
