Do you keep track of what products you've used in looks?

I really try to! There are some days that I test and my eyes are being sensitive–too red or just feeling sensitive to light–where I won’t take photos of what I’m testing, but I do keep track most of the time since I need to keep track of wear times and the like!

Please keep discussion on-topic, and if you have general feedback, a product review request, an off-topic question, or need technical support, please contact us!

Please help us streamline the comments' section and be more efficient: double-check the post above for more basic information like pricing, availability, and so on to make sure your question wasn't answered already. Comments alerting us to typos or small errors in the post are appreciated (!) but will typically be removed after errors are fixed (unless a response is needed).

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

I always mean to and always forget! I need to remember, first of all, to pick up a little spiral notebook the next time I’m at a dollar store and then remember to USE it!!! (but getting the book is the first hurdle – I just never remember and with so many stores and other businesses closed, I’ve just not been to a dollar store in ages).

I have a notebook with looks from tutorials and some Christine’s color stories written down. Everything is indexed by palette. It helps a lot when I am rushed or I’m not feeling creative to pick an eyeshadow look from the notebook! If anything ever happened to it I’d be in trouble. It’s easier to use the notebook than my phone when I’m doing my makeup. No worry about dropping or screen going dark!

Like the shrimp newburg recipe aka major midcentury moment I just ate? My gizzards aren’t what they once were… mild mal a la foie. Should have gone with more sherry and brandy, lol, to cut the half and half.

No – I don’t bother doing that at all. However I have some tops that I use specific eyeshadow palettes for – eg I use the Maybelline Burgundy Bar for when I am wearing tops that have the burgundy shade in it. And I always use the same shades. Another favourite is Dior’s Bonne Etoile and I use the mint and teal shades when I have those colours in a couple of summer tops. Ditto for olive shades, neutral and black/gold shades – I use specific palettes.

I take inspiration from magazines, screen shots from Instagram and some of Christine’s creations so most of the time I’m just winging it so I’m not usually taking notes. But I do have books from Rae Morris, Scott Barnes, Kevyn Aucoin and Bobbi Brown and I have bookmarked the looks that have worked for me and have become some of my go to looks. I like it when Celesta puts her looks on Instagram, maybe some day if I’m looking really good I’ll do it lol!

Not normally, but ever since my state (Ohio) first entered its early-pandemic lockdown last spring, I’ve been keeping what I call a coronavirus beauty diary-a Word document (no photos) where I list every look I’ve worn every day. In the early days it was a way to keep the lockdown days from all blending together. I also have a note at the top, before the actual beauty record starts, where I explain the diary’s purpose and list selected events of historical importance. I don’t know if I’ll keep beauty diaries up after the pandemic ends, but I may end up making occasional notes of looks I particularly like. Call that document Post-Pandemic Beauty Notes, maybe?

Guys! An easy, made-for-organizing app for this exact purpose is “Snupps.” It lets you take pictures and group them together, add notes. You scroll through it as you do with Instagram, and you can share or keep it private. I use this to organize my swatches/looks/nail art stuff.
