ColourPop Truth Be Told Ultra Satin Lip Trio Review, Photos, Swatches
Truth Be Told
ColourPop Truth Be Told Ultra Satin Lip Trio ($15.00 for 0.33 oz.) contains a rich burgundy, bright plum, and deep red. One shade (Cashing Out) was underwhelming–it wasn’t opaque, didn’t apply well–but the other two were fantastic: pigmented, long-wearing, and beautiful, even coverage.

Cashing Out
Cashing Out is a deep, reddened burgundy with subtle,w arm undertones and a semi-matte finish. It had semi-opaque color payoff in a single layer, which was buildable, but I felt like the feel of the product layered was a bit heavy and made it a more high-maintenance product. The texture was smooth, thin, and more emollient, which might have been why it did not apply as evenly nor was it as pigmented as the majority of the Ultra Satin range. The color stayed on well for seven and a half hours and felt slightly drying.

Formula Overview
$7.00/0.11 oz. - $63.64 Per Ounce
It is supposed to be a “lightweight, bold lipstick with a satin finish”liquid lipstick that is “extra intense colour saturation” and “long-wearing,” but the brand is quick to note that it is “not completely kiss proof.” The consistency is very light to lightweight with a thin to mousse-like consistency–they feel a little heavier going on than the Ultra Matte formula, but they don’t feel heavy on. They dry down somewhat, but it isn’t a full, flat dry down like matte liquid lipsticks, and when you press your lips together, there is moderate tackiness there, but I didn’t notice any lifting or separating of color by doing so.
They have been extremely long-wearing and comfortable to wear for the most part–it’s after ten hours or so that I notice my lips feeling a little dry–but six hours into wear and the colors have looked good post-meals/post-drinking. I think if you like the idea of longer-wearing, mostly matte lip color but find most liquid lipsticks too drying or too flat while not needing an ultra-hydrating formula, you might like these.

First of All
First of All is a brighter, medium plum with subtle, cool undertones and a satin finish. The lipstick had rich pigmentation with a smooth, lightweight texture that spread evenly and easily across the lips. It lasted for over seven and a half hours on me and felt neither drying nor hydrating over time.

Ambush
Ambush is a rich, medium-dark red with neutral-to-warm undertones and a satin finish. The pigmentation was fantastic; nearly opaque coverage in a single layer that went on evenly and smoothly with clean edges. The texture was lightweight, slightly runny compared to some Ultra Satins, but it sat well on the lips and was still going strong after seven hours of wear. The formula felt non-drying over time.

Because I totally love First Of All and Ambush, plus $15 is quite the bargain for such lovely shades, I may just buy this set! Ambush in itself is easily something I would pay $15 for! It’s just such a perfect red for winter.
I am in total agreement, I will give the one I don’t care for away (Cashing Out), its still worth it.
Thanks for the save! This set was on the WL, but Cashing Out is quadriduped and the other 2 have dupes in Noire et Blanche, which I just might have to pick up instore Fri. (Might? Fooling myself, briefly.) Have always majored in Nars dark reds, so that one goes home, without saying. Guess this set does not make the cut. Thanks. Love these, though.
Ooh, I didn’t know you got the Sephora Colourpop items! These look great, I’m excited to see your reviews on the other stuff 😀
These aren’t from Sephora – this is from their fall range!
Oh!! I need to actually read the text sometimes 😉
Ooh, pretty! I love Colourpop’s Ultra Satin formula. I am going to pass because I have so many reds already, but it’s not easy because these do look wonderful and the price is so great.
Oh, may just have to buy this one for First of All. Surprisingly I don’t have any dupes.
I need this omg!!! I love the shades here so much!!
So these are liquid lipsticks…
Do these set to matte/suck the life out of lips? I’m confused on the formula. All of the liquid lipsticks I’ve tried have set to matte and dried my lips out beyond belief. They look rather luscious on Christine’s lips in the swatches and, they have some sheen to them. I wonder if i’m just not ment to wear any liquid lipsticks. I’ve had zero luck. They all make my mouth look like a puckered butthole (like my dogs rear end!) They just suck the moisture right out. Crude comparison but that’s what they do to my poor lips and it’s a very unflattering look!
They do not set to matte! They are fairly transfer-proof, especially after a blot or two, but they definitely don’t dry down fully like liquid mattes!
I liked cashing out but since the pigmentation is not the same as the other lipsticks in the range, i will skip it.
When I first read your description, I thought one of them would have a much lower rating than a B+! B+ is still pretty good making the overall set still desirable in my eyes!
