ColourPop Super Shock Shadows

ColourPop Mixed Tape Super Shock Shadow ($5.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “mid-tone cool grey.” It’s a medium, purple-taupe with cool undertones and a pearly sheen. It had good pigmentation with a soft, blendable texture that was easy to use and applied very true-to-pan. The wear was fantastic–there was no fading or creasing after ten hours of wear. ColourPop Party Time Super Shock Shadow ($5.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “dusty mauve grey.” It’s a muted, medium-dark purple-taupe with a sprinkling of very, very fine shimmer over a matte finish. It had fairly good color payoff, while the texture had the drier (but smooth) consistency of a lot of the ColourPop’s mattes, but it wasn’t too dry; the eyeshadow still spread out without losing intensity and was easy to apply on the lid. It wore well for ten hours without fading or creasing. Too Faced Mulberry (LE, $16.00) is less shimmery, warmer (90% similar). Laura Mercier Plum Smoke (PiP, $23.00) is less shimmery, lighter, warmer (90% similar). Sugarpill Castle on the Hill (PiP, $13.00) is darker (90% similar). Fenty Beauty Wife It Up (PiP, ) is less shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Too Faced Be You (LE, $16.00) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). theBalm B3 (LE, $16.00) is lighter (90% similar). Sydney Grace Grounds (P, $5.25) is less shimmery, darker (85% similar). Tarte I Think I Cannes (LE, ) is darker, warmer (85% similar). Melt Cosmetics Assimilate (PiP, ) is lighter (85% similar). Viseart Titania (LE, ) is less shimmery, lighter (85% similar). Guerlain Les Tendres #4 (LE, ) is lighter, warmer (85% similar). LORAC Stone (LE, $19.00) is less shimmery, cooler (85% similar). Wet 'n' Wild VI Purple #6 (PiP, ) is less shimmery, lighter, warmer (80% similar). NARS Charade #2 (DC, $25.00) is darker (90% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

ColourPop Straight Trippin’ Super Shock Shadow ($5.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “deep black with a slight hint of a violet hue.” It’s a purpled burgundy with warm, plummy undertones and a satin finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation with a fairly blendable texture, but it ran a little drier, so it needed extra blending to ensure it didn’t look uneven or patchy when applied. The color lasted for ten hours without any fading or creasing that I could see. Too Faced Meow! (LE, $16.00) is lighter, cooler (95% similar). Tarte Glamorous (LE, ) is less shimmery (95% similar). Pat McGrath Xtreme Aubergine (PiP, $25.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). Sephora Shana (LE, ) is more shimmery, cooler (90% similar). ColourPop Jet (LE, $6.00) is darker, cooler (90% similar). Tarte Boudoir Noir (LE, ) is warmer (90% similar). Dior Precious Embroidery #5 (LE, ) is more muted, warmer (90% similar). Tarte My Own Cotes de Rhone (LE, ) is lighter (85% similar). ColourPop Plaid Super Shock Shadow ($5.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “deep blackened olive.” It’s a deepened olive green with subtle, warm khaki undertones and fine khaki and green shimmer. It was intensely pigmented with a really creamy, blendable texture that still applied with full intensity to the lid. At this point, I sound like a broken record, but after ten hours of wear, it still looked as good as it did initially applied. Clarins Forest #3 (LE, ) is warmer (90% similar). Urban Decay Hot Box (LE, $19.00) is cooler (90% similar). NARS Shade V (LE, $25.00) is lighter (90% similar). Urban Decay Cobra (LE, $19.00) is less shimmery, warmer (90% similar). They pretty much last until I take them off (I do not typically test for 16 hours unless that’s a specific claim — I usually go a little beyond whatever the stated claim, e.g. if it said 12 hours, I would go 13-14 hours, depending on how good it was still at 12 hours – if that makes sense!).

Hi Christine! If this makes any difference to any ladies out there, I put my make up on at 5:30 AM, wear all day, go jogging from 7:30 PM until 8:15 PM (and sweat my rear off here in Mississippi), and the colourpop eyeshadows still look the same as when I put them on!!!! They are incredible I wear nothing else anymore.

Also, as a bonus, I have found they make any eyeliner applied on top of them last longer without smearing or migration. I am obsessed.

When I received my first colourpop order this week & tested them out on my arm at work and showed the girls… after trying to get them off, without makeup remover, it was a bit difficult, I was impressed!

Mixed Tape immediately caught my eye but I’m really drawn to plaid as well, I love the look you did with the two. I also need Stereo from the other half of your review, it just screams autumn

Neonails Avatar

Ahha I love when you give all the products I want to buy glowing reviews. Once this drops, I am 100% picking up Mixed Tape, Party Time, & Plaid. I’m still unsure about the rest, but those three shades are must haves!

Nancy T Avatar

This eye look has me fawning over here; you look absolutely mauve-alous!!! I MUST have all 4 of these magni`fe shades! Yes, a major ColourPop haul up ahead, LoL!

Nancy T Avatar

Sooo, I just placed my CP order about 15-20 minutes ago, and now I am having some concerns. It would appear that Plaid *may* have been changed into a matte??? Worried ?

Ginny Avatar

I might get Plaid after all. I can see it being a good base for any green eyeshadow or if I want something like UD Lounge to pull more green.

DoriDee Avatar

Help Christine!!
I love these eyeshadows, have many and plan to buy more and while I use my fingers to put on, is there a brush you recommend to apply these with? I haven’t found a holy grail brush for these eyeshadows yet!

Cat Avatar

I’m feeling conflicted over here! LOL I really love Party Time but I’m afraid it would end up making my eyes look bruised. Unless my color settings betray me, it appears to lean blue.

nicole o. Avatar

looks like another colourpop order will be made very soon .

i usually don’t gravitate towards cool shades like mixed tape & party time , but i’m liking the purple tones in them

plaid is a beauty !

i recently bought my first colourpop eyeshadows (animal & erotic) & i’m in love with the formula . i know they claim they’re not to be used for the eye area , but i’ve tried them & had no problems with staining/allergic reactions .

if anyone has suggestions for more neutral ‘everyday’ colourpop eyeshadows , please let me know !

Katie Avatar

Christine, the eye look is beautiful, but I’m a little confused. You list the shadow used as Plaid, but it looks like you used the “purple-y” shadows to create the look. Is my monitor off, or does layering Mixed Tape over Plaid make Mixed Tape look more purple? Thank you!

Katie Avatar

Interesting – I’m confused? intrigued? (I can’t think of the word) that you can’t see the green through the purple. Regardless of my confusion, it’s a beautiful look, and I may have to add a few more of these shadows to my cart when this collection is released. lol

Stacy Avatar

Oy! My bank account was actually hoping this fall collection from CP would get terrible reviews across the board, so I wouldn’t be tempted. But after holding strong against the 87 shades of Flat Interior Wall Paint for Lips (sorry! LOL) and “Strobing” kits, this fall collection is making me cave in…. there goes another chunk of my money in Colourpop’s direction!

LMM Avatar

This review forced me to head to the Colourpop site and order all of the colors here plus Central Perk. What fantastic, different colors! I love them all. How do they do it? (Both the colors and the magic pull to spend money…)
