Strawberry Shake

ColourPop Strawberry Shake 9-Pan Pressed Powder Palette ($12.00 for 0.36 oz.) is a new palette that features a mix of coral, pink, and red with a smattering of peach hues. All of the eyeshadows were pigmented, blendable, and long-wearing with little to complain about. There was a bit of fallout with Delish and light powderiness with shades like Paper Straw and Shake It Up that was mostly confined to the pan (so not prone to sheering out on the lid).

There are three shades that are “not intended for use in the immediate eye area” and are “Pressed Pigments,” and those shades are: My Milkshake, Take a Sip, and Daiquiri.

My Milkshake

My Milkshake is a rich, medium-dark pink with neutral-to-cool undertones and a matte finish. The eyeshadow had opaque pigmentation in a single layer, which adhered evenly and smoothly to bare skin. The texture felt a little dusty in the pan, but it blended out without issues. The color wore nicely for nine hours before I noticed any fading, but it did leave a stain behind.

Formula Overview

$4.50/0.05 oz. - $90.00 Per Ounce

The new Pressed Powder Shadow formula is supposed to be “highly pigmented” with an “ultra-velvety and silky” texture that is “long-wearing." The way the Pressed Pigments differ is that they're not intended for usage on the immediate eye area.

The majority of the shades are semi-opaque to opaque in coverage, blend out fairly well, and can sometimes be a bit drier/more powdery compared to typical matte shades. They often wear eight to nine hours on me before fading, but many shades in the Pressed Pigment family leave some staining behind.

NOTICE: All products categorized under "Pigment" carry a warning in the US that the product is "not intended for use in the immediate eye area." Some color additives in "Pigments" have no usage restrictions in the EU, per CosIng, and can be used on the eyes. We recommend checking ingredients to confirm current safety assessment/restrictions: FDA/CosIng.

Whipped

Whipped is a medium-dark pink with strong, warm undertones and a bright, metallic finish. It had rich pigmentation with a soft, lightly creamy texture that was dense without being too thick, so it applied well and didn’t emphasize my skin’s natural texture. The eyeshadow stayed on well for eight and a half hours on me before I noticed any fading.

Formula Overview

$4.50/0.05 oz. - $90.00 Per Ounce

The new Pressed Powder Shadow formula is supposed to be “highly pigmented” with an “ultra-velvety and silky” texture that is “long-wearing” and “adheres easily to the eyes.” Most of the shades have semi-opaque to opaque pigmentation that applies well to bare skin, blends out without issue, and lasts for seven to eight hours.

The matte eyeshadows tend to be a little more powdery, though soft and finely-milled, in the pan, while the shimmers have a creamier, dense consistency. Occasionally, the more sparkly or metallic shades apply better with fingertips or a dampened brush.

Woke

Woke is a muted, medium pink with strong, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had excellent color coverage in a single layer, which applied evenly to bare skin without sheering out too readily. The consistency was soft, somewhat powdery in the pan, so there was a bit of fallout during application, but it blended out easily. Take a Sip

Take a Sip is a bright, pinky-red with subtle, cool undertones and a mostly matte finish; there were a few stray sparkles throughout it, but they did not translate much. It was intensely pigmented with a soft, blendable texture that felt a touch dry but wasn’t difficult to work with on my skin. The color stayed on well for nine hours and left behind a strong, fuchsia stain.

Delish

Delish is a light-medium peach with warm undertones and a sparkling finish. It had a lightly creamy texture, so it had some slip, and it applied best by pressing and patting onto the lid with a flat, synthetic brush or fingertips to minimize fallout. The pigmentation was semi-opaque and buildable to full coverage with a second layer or with a wet brush. It lasted nicely for eight hours on me before fading visibly.

Daiquiri

Daiquiri is a bright, medium-dark red with neutral-to-warm undertones and a matte finish. It was intensely pigmented with a smooth texture that was a little thin but not too thin or stiff in the pan. The color seemed to darken slightly after application, so I found that it was hard to get the true red out of it without a white base. The eyeshadow lasted well for nine hours before fading but left moderate staining behind.

I must be crazy, too, because I ordered this palette (plus Just My Luck) right before I fell asleep last night! I almost ordered Wallaby to bring the total to $30 for free shipping, but decided to buy the Super Shock shadow shade Bill instead.

kjh Avatar

No matter what CP churns out at an alarming rate, it is always interesting, and usually quite good, whether you want it or not. Kind of a ‘duh’ statement.

Lauren Avatar

I don’t “need” pinks. I have quite a few shimmery hot pinks and am happy with them for the few occasions a month I might wear them. But WOW is this palette really pretty and I like that there is a good mix of mattes and shimmer and a variation of color. I’m not currently buying anything from CP (they shipped my last package to the wrong address and USPS didn’t forward so kind of a mess and involved with a claim right now – I’m hopeful it will all turn out ok because I’ve never had anything but positive experiences with CP to this point) but once it is all resolved this is moving from the wish list to my cart. It looks like a really fun palette that will compliment my current stash.

Emily Avatar

Did you use a primer with the pressed pigments? Did they leave a stain even over primer? Otherwise these look lovely! I’ve been holding of buying the colourpop palettes because of the pressed glitter. I will not use that at all!

Christine Avatar

I’ve used primer in the past and don’t find that it negates all staining, generlaly, but it will depend on exactly what primer you use – e.g. something more opaque will block more staining than something more translucent. I don’t use primer when testing for wear, as a FYI! If I use primer, it is usually to test for something specific/see if it will fix something, but it would be mentioned specifically if I used it at any point in testing for any product used.

Seraphine Avatar

Hi Emily. I regularly watch Makeup Just for Fun’s tutorials of Colourpop products. Just last night I watched her video for the CP Orange You Glad palette in which she talks specifically about staining. She says she doesn’t have a problem because she uses MAC Paint Pots as primer.

Seraphine Avatar

NYX Proof It Waterproof Eyeshadow Primer is my one of my HG products, but sometimes I use my Paint Pot. I haven’t experienced staining with either, but I am not sure if I’ve ever used shades that stain.

Marni Avatar

Just an alternative opinion but I am tired of all the red, pink, and orange palettes. It’s been ongoing for several years now, non-stop red palettes. While they are pretty and orange is my favorite color, I look like I’m battling the flu whenever I attempt to wear any of the red hued shades. I think they look a bit garish when being worn out no matter how well done a red eye look is online. I like makeup that enhances one’s appearance, not one that calls attention to the makeup itself. The colors in the palette are beautiful tho’, that’s a fact. I’m saving money while this wild color craze is going on. They are just not for me.

Deborah S. Avatar

This is so pretty and while I don’t need anymore red/orange palettes there is something about this one that I am really drawn to. I really like the actual shades of red/pink/peach rather than some of the other similar shades that I have. I also love that there is enough of a difference in intensity, depth and finish of the shades to make it easy to use. The only thing I would have to pull in would be a matte brow bone highlight. I am talking myself into this one!
