Never Not Chillin

ColourPop Never Not Chillin’ Super Shock Shadow Set ($30.00 for 0.42 oz.) includes six cream eyeshadows housed in a “record,” but each eyeshadow is self-contained (just like a single Super Shock Shadow). The set is sold out, but you can purchase any of the shades individually, which is why I still wrote this review!

I’m a huge fan of the Super Shadow formula because it offers the blendability and intensity of a cream eyeshadow but with the maneuverability of a more traditional powder eyeshadow, as it dries down completely but can still be blended along the edges. The texture is less like a cream and more spongy with a greater density overall, but they still have some slip (the more shimmery/metallic shades have a wetter feel overall). I also get incredible wear out of the formula–often over 12 hours and still going strong!

The quality of the set was consistent with my past experiences with the formula, so if any of the shades catch your eye, they’re all worth a look!

Peekaboo

Peekaboo is a soft gold with warm, yellow undertones and a pearly sheen. The color coverage was fully opaque, while the eyeshadow felt smooth, not too dense or too wet, and blended out nicely on the lid. It wore well for ten hours without creasing or fading.

Formula Overview

ColourPop Super Shock Shadow is a cream-based formula that comes in a multitude of shades and finishes. The more metallic shades have the most slip to them (they have a “wetter” feel), while the more matte ones have a firmer, more clay-like consistency. Almost every shade I’ve tried from ColourPop has been exceptionally long-wearing (10+ hours of wear, usually there until I remove, even 14 hours later). The pigmentation can vary from shade to shade, but the average shade is quite pigmented.

From feedback I’ve seen from readers, many love them but some don’t like them at all. They aren’t a traditional cream eyeshadow, as they are denser (more sponge-like), and they apply best with flat, firm, synthetic brushes (I like the MAC 242 and 249) for me. The brand recommends using fingers for the most pigmented application, but I’ve only felt that fingers were necessary on a few shades (usually the super glittery ones).

The more matte shades can be on the drier side and vary from medium to opaque in coverage, though they're often buildable.  They can be a little hard to diffuse the edges of, though some are lovely to work with.

The more glittery shades have been the weakest to me, as they can be sheerer or harder to apply.  Sometimes, they are more pigmented and work like the other finishes in the formula, but often, they are sheerer and only function well patted on top of more pigmented eyeshadows to add glitter.  They do, however, tend to have little fallout over time with the occasional shade having a more moderate amount of fallout (but still less fallout than most powder eyeshadows with glitter).

Thirsty Girl

Thirsty Girl is a deep brown with olive undertones and a glittery, gold finish. It had good pigmentation with a fairly smooth texture (aside from feeling some of the larger glittery bits!) that applied evenly onto the skin. The color blended out without losing its intensity, and then it lasted for over ten hours with almost no fallout.

Patchwork

Patchwork is a blackened teal with a very strong, warm black base with lighter teal sparkle and shimmer. This was a more glittery shade, so the texture wasn’t as smooth as other shades in the set. It had a more emollient texture, so it sheered out a bit on the lid and was harder to keep the area opaque when you wanted it opaque. I had just a smidgen of fallout after ten hours of wear.

Fairfax is a deep brown with subtle, warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. It had good pigmentation, though it was not fully opaque, but the coverage was buildable. I have Desert and love it. Even though I have shadows like it, it’s spot on in color and texture and all at a great price. I’m going to order more to stock up, since it’s LE. Word to the wise: my last CP order (placed late Nov) was incomplete, customer service sent a ‘sorry we’ve been busy’ message; now after some back and forths including some photos of the package and packing slip, my last item is en route; it took two extra weeks. Not bad, not best.

CP does it again. Thirsty Girl and Babykins recently became available as singles – I got both, and they are gorgeous!! Very pleased, as I didn’t want to buy the whole set just for those 2 colors. Also like Patchwork, but I have dupes for it.

CP is queen for issuing singles…sometimes the whole set…and I usually only want~2/5. Off topic, but CP. I rec’d them more than 15 times at night job last night, when I got >15 compliments on Avenue lippie. Seriously, most people compliment my old glasses. Remember, I have 65 in the rear view mirror. Avenue and that whole set would be fab on darker skinned women. That set is a win-nuh. Blues Baby, methinks. or Can You Knot? No wonder they are doing as well as they are, and holding the line on prices. Kudos to CP.

Over 15 compliments on CP Avenue lippie??? Wow, I needs to go check that baby out ! I know you and I like the same kinds of reds 🙂 Sounds like that one will be a fave for sure !

This set looks fun. The swatches look great and the packaging is a plus. I have yet to buy any more colour pop since my first buy about 2 yrs ago or right when they started up. I am leaning towards trying their shadows as they look more appealing than the lip products. Babykins is amazing!

Oh my goodness, I have messed up on every single post today. I’m so sorry, Katie, what a failure I am today – talk about someone who needs to get their act together.

I have fixed that – I just failed at something as simple as copying and pasting. Thank you for letting me know!

I actually did buy the 2 shades I was most interested in once they were made available for purchase as singles: Babykins and Thirsty Girl. They are both stunning! But a serious pain to photograph without proper equipment, as I attempted to do for makeup challenges. I think I need a ring light with these, especially with their very glittery shades like Thirsty Girl and Prickly Pear!
Btw: Babykins w/ Prickly Pear, Girly, Hustle and a touch of Birthday Girl is sublime!!!!

So excited, I ordered Thirsty Girl as soon as I saw it available as a single and it should be delivered today – which considering it only shipped 3 days ago and I’m in New Zealand, is amazing!

Cannot wait to try it out – I’m loving Wattles as a lid shade at the moment too!

What a stunning set of colours – no wonder it sold out so quickly. The shade selection is perfect and I can’t get over how beautiful Patchwork is. The price and the ratings are sensational. It is a great buy if you can get it.

I have Thirsty Girl and it is really pretty.

I’ve heard a lot of issues with CP lately but I’ve never had any issues with them and I’ve been shopping with them almost since the beginning. Everything arrives within the time frame specified and nothing is ever damaged (and I live on the East coast). In fact, they package things better than most brands with the foam inserts and all.

Happy to hear that you’ve been having such great experience with CP even lately! I have not had to purchase in a few months so haven’t been able to speak personally.

We try to approve comments within 24 hours (and reply to them within 72 hours) but can sometimes get behind and appreciate your patience! 🙂 If you have general feedback, product review requests, off-topic questions, or need technical support, please contact us directly. Thank you for your patience!
