ColourPop Midi Ultra Matte Liquid Lipstick
ColourPop Midi Ultra Matte Liquid Lipstick ($6.00 for 0.11 fl. oz.) is described as a “soft neutral beige.” It’s a light, pinky-beige with a matte finish. The texture was really clingy when it dried down and emphasized the lines/texture of the natural lip. I found this shade flaked off as it wore, and it wore away more readily from the center of the mouth within four hours. The formula was also drying and extremely fast-drying. Too Faced Child Star (P, $21.00) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). MAC Promise Me (P, $20.00) is lighter, glossier (85% similar). MAC Love Happens (LE, $19.00) is more shimmery, darker (85% similar). ColourPop Vice (LE, $6.50) is lighter, brighter, warmer (90% similar). MAC Strip Poker (LE, $19.00) is lighter, glossier (85% similar). MAC LarLarLee (LE, $19.00) is darker, glossier (90% similar). Makeup Geek Do-si-do (LE, $12.00) is lighter, warmer (85% similar). MAC Calm Heat (LE, $19.00) is lighter, brighter, cooler (85% similar). KVD Beauty Agatha (DC, $21.00) is lighter (85% similar). Sephora Love Love (07) (P, $8.00) is brighter, glossier (85% similar). Too Faced Melted Ice Cream (LE, $21.00) is lighter (80% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Addison (P, $36.00) is darker, warmer, glossier (80% similar). Burberry Dusty Pink (406) (P, $35.00) is darker, more muted (80% similar). ColourPop Ace (LE, $7.00) is cooler, glossier (80% similar). MAC Peach Beige (LE, $19.00) is lighter, glossier (80% similar). ColourPop Shimmy (LE, $6.50) is darker, cooler (80% similar). Bobbi Brown Blush (P, $28.00) is warmer, glossier (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
ColourPop Seesaw Ultra Matte Liquid Lipstick ($6.00 for 0.11 fl. oz.) is described as a “pastel lavender pink.” It’s a brightened, pinky lavender with subtle, cool undertones and a matte finish. This one had good pigmentation but dried down quickly and cracked as soon as it finished drying, so it flaked a lot during wear. It felt awkward to wear (you could just feel something was on your lips) and lasted four hours before it had flaked too much to keep wearing. It was drying while worn. MAC Raspberry Swirl (LE, $19.00) is lighter, glossier (90% similar). MAC Steady Going (P, $19.00) is warmer (90% similar). ColourPop Boa (P, $6.00) is cooler (85% similar). KVD Beauty Armageddon (P, $20.00) is lighter, brighter, cooler (85% similar). MAC Pink Nouveau (P, $19.00) is darker, glossier (90% similar). KVD Beauty Requiem (P, $20.00) is lighter, more muted (85% similar). Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Mannequin (DC, $18.00) is lighter, brighter, cooler (80% similar). NYX Rose (P, $6.00) is lighter, brighter, glossier (80% similar). ColourPop Brills (LE, $7.00) is darker, cooler, glossier (80% similar). Makeup Geek Arabesque (LE, $12.00) is darker, cooler (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Formula Summary: ColourPop Ultra Matte Liquid Lipstick ($6.00 for 0.11 fl. oz.) is a long-wearing, pigmented lipstick that starts off glossy and dries down quickly to that super flat matte finish. They have minimal transfer with some of the lighter shades having almost none for the first few hours of wear, but any time you’ve had a meal, they lose that transfer-resistant quality to a noticeable degree. They tend to wear anywhere from six to ten hours with darker shades maintaining better color coverage and wear over a longer period of time. Some shades get a little drying about two-thirds to three-fourths through the wear, while a few shades have been fairly non-drying even many hours into wear. They fade away evenly with most color loss occurring from the center of the lips if eating a more oil-based meal but the majority of color survives a meal. Reapplication has been hit or miss and tends to depend on how well it wore away and how easily the shade applies normally, but reapplication tends to emphasize the lip’s natural texture significantly compared to initial application and gives lips a very wrinkled, dried-up look. I’ve layered gloss on top of some shades with moderate success, though it will obviously lose the matte finish and will transfer and I’ll get tiny flakes where the matte lip color has lifted by mixing with gloss but has been pretty minimal. The formula had no discernible taste or scent.

Seesaw looks gorgeous!
The color is cool!
It is taking me awhile to even like the look of some ultra matte liquid lipsticks, but I have to say in the paler shades.. nope, definitely not at the like stage whatsoever. These look painfully dry.
The lighter shades from CP in particular seem poorer overall!
I agree!
Sad to see that Midi got such a poor review as this color is one that did appeal to me. That is why your reviews are so appreciated Christine.
Aw, thanks Deidre!
Oh no, flaking and cracking is why I usually stay far away from liquid lipsticks, and it’s more obvious when the color is very different from your natural lip color
Very true!
Instant drying and flaking are just huge no-no’s for me, especially considering that I have a terrible habit of biting off flakey bits of lipstick! Glad to see that Seesaw has Pink Noveau as a dupe, because I have a dupe for that: Nyx Matte Lipstick in Audrey.
Phew 🙂
Good to know! I bought Audrey recently.
I had no idea it was a dupe until a little over a year ago when I wore it to MAC because I had always wanted Pink Noveau and planned on getting it that day, I threw on a neon-ish pink top, Audrey matched my top well enough, I get there and the SA who had held a tube of PN for me was VERY confused! She thought I had PN on and assumed I already had it!
LOL!
Midi isn’t great. I tried it on and it made my lips look so cakey and wrinkly. The texture paired with the color (it’s like a pale beige mauve on me) just wasn’t flattering and I took it right off and wore something else.
It isn’t! The lighter shades seem to be least consistent.
I love the colors, but the formula on these lighter ones sounds awful. This is pretty much what I experienced with Trap. Somehow, though, you made them actually look pretty good on your lips!
The formula is so much less forgiving on the lighter shades!
Ouch, your poor lips!
I like the colour of Seasaw, but I think it’s too light or white-ish for my colouring.
I do love your eye makeup, beautiful!
Thank you, Helene!
I’m sort of glad I didn’t pick up Seesaw, it looked too cool toned for me, but the flaking you described was not the best for the formula they offer.
Flaking is so messy 🙁 And with a liquid lipstick, SO hard to deal with on the go!
Neither of these is for me!
Money saved!
