Christian Louboutin Loubiminette Sheer Voile Lip Colour Review, Photos, Swatches
Christian Louboutin Loubiminette Sheer Voile Lip Colour
Christian Louboutin Loubiminette Sheer Voile Lip Colour ($90.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a lightly brightened, medium-dark fuchsia pink with cool, bluish undertones and a light sheen and slight pearl. Revlon Berry Couture (P, $8.49) is cooler (90% similar). Revlon Whimsical (115) (DC, $8.99) is brighter, glossier (90% similar). MAC Feeling Amorous? (LE, $20.00) is brighter (90% similar). Revlon Sorbet (DC, $7.49) is darker, warmer (90% similar). Guerlain Very Pink (360) (P, $37.00) is brighter, more pigmented (90% similar). MAC Quite the Thing! (LE, $17.00) is more shimmery, glossier (90% similar). Chanel Ina (450) (P, $37.00) is more shimmery, lighter (85% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Aphrodite (LE, $52.00) is lighter, brighter (85% similar). Estee Lauder Passionate (P, $30.00) is brighter, more pigmented, cooler (85% similar). Chanel Viva (95) (LE, $37.00) is more shimmery, lighter (85% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Fathom (LE, $36.00) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Cruising (LE, $36.00) is lighter, more muted, less pigmented (80% similar). The Sheer Voile formula is supposed to have a “creamy smooth and nourishing sensation on lips” with “sheer coverage” and a “luminous shine finish.” It had semi-sheer color coverage that went on evenly and smoothly, and the consistency is a bit softer and feels like it melts against the warmth of the lips more so than with the other two finishes. I liked that it didn’t melt too much, so it didn’t feel heavy or like you could easily over-apply like some stick lip balms can. It was lightweight, moderately hydrating, and lasted for three hours on me, though it didn’t stay shiny for longer than an hour and a half. It had a rosy, perfume-like scent and taste.
Each lipstick is housed in a glossy black cardboard box with a red velvet shell lining, silk case (it was rougher and I thought it was just plastic mesh, but the brand says it is silk), and the lipsticks have a shimmering, gold ribbon that loops around. The ribbon has two crimped ends, and you’re supposed to simply tie them into a knot, but I wish it was some sort of clasp for better hold. It has moderate heft; not as heavy as Guerlain’s Rouge Gs but certainly not so light that it feels “cheap.” They don’t stand up, and they don’t have the shade name printed on them at all; there is a number printed on the interior tube, but the numbers aren’t readily available online. The packaging itself has a lot of details, and it’s a unique shape and style relative to what we see on the market, but I imagine you have to appreciate the packaging to justify the rest of it. I wish they stood up, because then you could really display them (like the polishes), or perhaps if the top was a removable cover, rather than a lid on a “hinge,” then you could remove the cover and display in the boxes.

Head to head: I think the Lauder dupe pummels the crap out of this one… but sheer isn’t my thing unless it is a nude shade.
Aside: I wish the satin finish lipsticks (other than signature Louboutin red) also came in the black packaging
I’m partial to the black packaging, too!
I’m skipping the Sheer Voile line. The swatch looks like a Revlon Lip Butter, and even some of those are more pigmented. For those with money to spare, great, but if I’m going to spend $90 for a lippie, I want it PACKED with pigment.
Definitely not the right formula for you then!
You are making my wallet verrrrry happy!
Haha!
This color looks pretty on you. I am not going to get the sheer version. I am planning yo get the berry color ones in satin and in matte. Also, I am going for the lip liner because I like the shape. Did you get the lip liner Christine? What does the number represent? Is it the number of the colour or the number of how many were produced? I also read the interior if the cap was lined in red too. Is that true? I am going to wait a bit to see more swatches on the web before I get them. They look like weapons for self defense. I wish I could swatch before I buy. I don’t like these online purchases.
I didn’t get any of the lip liners, sorry! The number is for the shade, though the numbers are not listed online, but on Louboutin’s site you can see in the SKU that the last three digits seem to line up with the number on the tube (it’s under “Product Information” and is Reference: ######).
This is really pretty and you look just stunning Christine. I love this entire look! I’m noting the dupes because I just couldn’t pay $90 for it.
Thank you, Nicole!
Thanks so much for these Louboutin reviews. I have lots of $50 lipsticks and thats as high as I’m comfortable with spending personally…and that sounds absolutely crazy to most people I know. But I LOVE reading reviews of these kind of products, I think its awesome that you do drugstore to high high end. I love reading them all, even if I’m pretty firmly in the mid-range price bracket myself.
Always good to know what’s out there 🙂
The color is beautiful on your Christine.
Thanks, Deidre!
I think while the color is lovely…..The price point of this is insane. Yes, I know a very high end designer created it…….yes people will buy it based on that alone. No it’s not in my budget…….if i spend 90 dollars on makeup (which i do more often than I should) I better walk away with more than just 1 lipstick. I hope all that buy it enjoy their treat imensley…….:)
Totally understand, Mary!
Mary, you said it better than I ever could! I too may sometimes drop a lot of dough on makeup, but not for just ONE lipstick! An eyeshadow palette, yes, an anti-aging eye cream, yes, and if I could’ve gotten a hold of the Tom Ford Pink Glow palette, I probably would have.
Even though I do love these vivid cool pinks on others, I don’t like them enough on me to go and spend more than maybe $16-30 on one ( I don’t think cool pinks like me! ). It looks great on you, though!
I love this snake packaging, but I never wear sheer lipsticks so I would be buying JUST for packaging which I won’t lie and say I’ve not done before…) but I really need to get ones I will use!
You definitely should get one you’d use 🙂
Just like the matte Louboutun you reviewed, regardless of the price, it’s very pretty but the packaging isn’t the most functional and there are plenty of dupes. If the formula was more interesting or unique then I would at least have a passing interest in the lip products but, eh, you’re basically buying the name. Period. You could throw a Revlon Lacquer Balm in the bullet and get the same results.
Thanks again for keeping all of us in the know!
I keep the polishes I have from the CL line on my dresser, and I feel like if I actually bought these out of personal desire… I would want to display them there, too. Guerlain’s Rouge G packaging bothers me for the same reason – total pain to store and good luck trying to read any labels!
That is really, really pretty. If I were spending $90 on a lipstick, though, I’d probably go for a less dupeable color.
I can totally see the justification on that!
I love the packaging. But since I don’t wear packaging, I’m managing to not be tempted by these. Tom Ford on the other hand…
Love the eye look you created to go with this lip color. Can I ask what color products you used on your eyes. Very pretty.
Thank you, Tatiana! Everything is listed either in the sidebar, if you have a sidebar (depends on the device) or immediately below the post.
I think this is very pretty, but not $90 pretty. I also like pigmented lipsticks, if I want sheer, I usually go for glosses.
I do think it’s very interesting to read the reviews, even if I don’t think I’ll ever buy a lipstick this expensive, you never know, though 🙂
You’re certainly not alone! I think this is too pricey even for a lot of people who regularly shell out for Tom Ford and the like!
Very pretty color and finish but I would not spend $90.00 on a lipstick. Revlon has beautiful dupes at , I’m sure, much more reasonable prices.
I don’t understand why so many clothing, shoe and other fashion designers start makeup companies.
Huge industry, more money, for-profit -> done!
$90, I just cannot.
Totally understand!
Holy jeepers! For $90, that had better be the best lipstick ever that comes with a magical elf that jumps out of the tube to apply it for me. Good golly, they need to try harder!
It really should be near-perfect! I think if the wear as on the shorter side (like it wasn’t the longest wearing ever!) that would be one thing, but wearing away poorly is another.
Very pretty but I’d get the dupes, so much less money!
Phew!
Much adu about nothing…
Different strokes for different folks, I think! 🙂
