Love Bird

ColourPop Love Bird 9-Pan Pressed Powder Palette ($12.00 for 0.36 oz.) is a new(ish), limited edition palette that features three Pressed Shadows, three Pressed Glitters, two Pressed Pigments, and one Super Shock Shadow. Aside from the glitters, the products were pigmented, blendable, and long-wearing with No Egrets being not as blendable as one might like (though not bad for the intensity and type of color!).

The Pressed Glitters contain plastic glitter, and this formula along with the Pressed Pigment formula, all come with the “not intended for use in the immediate eye area” warning. The Pressed Glitters are an improvement over glitter-packed shades from years ago, as they are more emollient, which gives them better adherence and grip on my skin, but they can still have fallout/migration over time (and it’s hard to remove every particle during removal).

Peacocky

Peacocky is a soft, light-medium peach with moderate, warm undertones and a sparkling sheen. It had nearly opaque color coverage that adhered evenly to bare skin and blended out well along the edges. The texture was emollient, lightly creamy but felt more powder-like once it came into contact with the skin (it seems to be a Super Shock Shadow). It wore well for nine hours before fading a bit on me.

Formula Overview

$6.00/0.07 oz. - $85.71 Per Ounce

ColourPop Super Shock Shadow is a cream-based formula that comes in a multitude of shades and finishes. The more metallic shades have the most slip to them (they have a “wetter” feel), while the more matte ones have a firmer, more clay-like consistency. Almost every shade I’ve tried from ColourPop has been exceptionally long-wearing (10+ hours of wear, usually there until I remove, even 14 hours later). The pigmentation can vary from shade to shade, but the average shade is quite pigmented.

From feedback I’ve seen from readers, many love them but some don’t like them at all. They aren’t a traditional cream eyeshadow, as they are denser (more sponge-like), and they apply best with flat, firm, synthetic brushes (I like the MAC 242 and 249) for me. The brand recommends using fingers for the most pigmented application, but I’ve only felt that fingers were necessary on a few shades (usually the super glittery ones).

The more matte shades can be on the drier side and vary from medium to opaque in coverage, though they're often buildable.  They can be a little hard to diffuse the edges of, though some are lovely to work with.

The more glittery shades have been the weakest to me, as they can be sheerer or harder to apply.  Sometimes, they are more pigmented and work like the other finishes in the formula, but often, they are sheerer and only function well patted on top of more pigmented eyeshadows to add glitter.  They do, however, tend to have little fallout over time with the occasional shade having a more moderate amount of fallout (but still less fallout than most powder eyeshadows with glitter).

Flowerboy

Flower Boy is a brighter, medium pink-coral with a matte finish and moderate, warmer undertones. It had opaque pigmentation with a soft, lightly powdery texture that applied evenly to bare skin and blended out well without losing its intensity. It lasted nicely for eight hours before fading noticeably on me.

Formula Overview

$4.50/0.05 oz. - $90.00 Per Ounce

The new Pressed Powder Shadow formula is supposed to be “highly pigmented” with an “ultra-velvety and silky” texture that is “long-wearing” and “adheres easily to the eyes.” Most of the shades have semi-opaque to opaque pigmentation that applies well to bare skin, blends out without issue, and lasts for seven to eight hours.

The matte eyeshadows tend to be a little more powdery, though soft and finely-milled, in the pan, while the shimmers have a creamier, dense consistency. Occasionally, the more sparkly or metallic shades apply better with fingertips or a dampened brush.

Cheep Cheep

Cheep Cheep is light, white gold small-sized glitter particles that shifted from bright, white gold to light-medium gold with opalescent, smaller glitter particles throughout. The glitter particles were suspended in a translucent base, so it had more medium to semi-opaque coverage overall. It had plastic glitter, which came with the warning that it wasn’t intended for use around the eye area.

This shade had good dispersion and spreadability with minimal fallout during application. There was slight fallout/migration during eight hours of wear.

Ingredients

Polyethylene Terephthalate, Dimethicone, Polymethyl Methacrylate, Polybutylene Terephthalate, Lauroyl Lysine, Polyurethane 33, Magnesium Myristate, Acrylate Copolymers, Chlorphenesin, Dehydroacetic Acid, Ethylene/Va Copolymer, Aluminum. May Contain: Iron Oxides (Ci 77491, Ci 77492), Red 7 (Ci 15850), Red 34 (Ci 15880), Yellow 5 (Ci 19140).

NOTICE: All products categorized under "Glitter" contain Polyethylene Terephthalate, also known as plastic or PET glitter, and it is typically cosmetic grade glitter. Inclusion of this ingredient sometimes carries a warning (in the US) that the product is "not intended for use in the immediate eye area." This ingredient has not been approved for usage on the eyes per the FDA. In recent years, some brands are including this product in their eyeshadows without any warning or callout and effectively marketing them as eyeshadows or including a symbol of an "eye" which suggests eye usage. Via CosIng for EU, PET glitter is permitted without any restrictions or limitations. For an in-depth look at whether cosmetic grade glitter is safe, please view this post.

Indio

Indio had a mix of darker, pink glitter and holographic glitter suspended in a translucent base. It was small to medium-sized glitter pieces with some finer pieces in the background. The product contains plastic glitter, and it was listed as not intended for use around the eye area.

The texture was lightly emollient, and the glitter had good dispersion when applied to skin without sheering out too readily. It had nearly opaque coverage in a single layer, so a little went a long way. There was slight migration/fallout over an eight-hour period.

Side Chick

Side Chick is a brighter, medium-dark pink with moderate, warm undertones and a matte finish. The eyeshadow had good pigmentation in a single layer, which was buildable to full coverage with a second layer. The consistency was slightly drier and dustier in the pan, so there was a touch of fallout during application, but it was blendable and easy enough to work with. It stayed on well for eight hours before fading noticeably.

On a Lark

On a Lark is a brighter, medium fuchsia pink with subtle, cool undertones and flecks of micro-sparkle over a matte finish. The sparkles didn’t translate much during application, so it was functionally a matte finish. The consistency was soft, smooth, and blendable without being too powdery nor too firmly pressed into the pan. It had rich color coverage that lasted nicely for eight and a half hours before fading a bit.

Formula Overview

$4.50/0.05 oz. - $90.00 Per Ounce

The new Pressed Powder Shadow formula is supposed to be “highly pigmented” with an “ultra-velvety and silky” texture that is “long-wearing." The way the Pressed Pigments differ is that they're not intended for usage on the immediate eye area.

The majority of the shades are semi-opaque to opaque in coverage, blend out fairly well, and can sometimes be a bit drier/more powdery compared to typical matte shades. They often wear eight to nine hours on me before fading, but many shades in the Pressed Pigment family leave some staining behind.

No Egrets

No Egrets is a bright, medium-dark burgundy with cool undertones and a matte finish. It had a denser, more substantial texture with a touch of dryness to it, though it was smoother than other red-heavy shades (on average). It had nearly opaque pigmentation in a single layer, which applied evenly but took more effort to diffuse and blend out.

I would recommend wearing this over a primer to mitigate staining but also aid in ensuring a more even application. It stayed on well for eight and a half hours before fading slightly.

Another pink themed, pressed glitter number from Colour Pop – how original are they?
I’m sorry Christine, but I am getting consumer fatigue over all of CP’s recent offerings, where many of them are quite similar.
You do a sterling job, as always, of reviewing them as they release. I appreciate the time and effort that goes into these reviews and how important it is to be accurate in your responses.

I love this palette and I’ve been trying to buy it for the past few weeks. It’s always out of stock in Ulta as well as online at Ulta / CP. Any idea if there will be a restock on this palette? Thank you for the review and any info!!! Have a wonderful holiday and New Year, Christine!!! Xoxox
