It's My Pleasure

Colour Pop It’s My Pleasure 9-Pan Pressed Powder Palette ($12.00 for 0.36 oz.) is the newest palette release from ColourPop that features a mix of pinks, plums, and purples. It’s another solid set of eyeshadows from ColourPop, and it really comes down to whether it’s a color scheme that appeals to you and is a good fit for your stash. I loved the sparkles used through shades like Do or Dough and Bare Minimum; they really added oomph to the shades, particularly in practice.

As a note, three shades are “not intended for use in the immediate eye area,” and they are: Kittenfish, Chic Lit, and Sleeper. Also worth noting, the following are previously released shades: Pretty Cruel, Earthshine, Mr. Sandman, and Sleeper.

Kittenfish

Kittenfish is a medium lavender with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation that applied evenly to bare skin and blended out with ease along the edges. The consistency was soft, velvety, and not too powdery nor too firmly pressed in the pan. It stayed on well for eight and a half hours on me.

Ingredients

Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Talc, Boron Nitride, Zinc Stearate, Lauroyl Lysine, Magnesium Stearate, Dimethicone, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Silica, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Dimethiconol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Hexylene Glycol, Blue 1 Lake (CI 42090), Iron Oxides (CI 77492), Manganese Violet (CI 77742), Mica (CI 77019), Red 28 Lake (CI 45410), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891).

Do or Dough

Do or Dough is a muted, medium magenta pink with cool, blue undertones and flecks of blue and violet sparkle and finer shimmer. It looked slightly “cooler” in color–a little more lavender and less pink–in person, as there were so many reflective sparkles in it (see second swatch in the slideshow above!). The pigmentation was nearly opaque in a single layer and easily built up to full coverage with less than half of a layer on top. The texture was soft, smooth, and blendable with a slightly looser press but not so loose that it became prone to fallout. It lasted nicely for eight and a half hours on me.

Formula Overview

$4.50/0.05 oz. - $90.00 Per Ounce

The new Pressed Powder Shadow formula is supposed to be “highly pigmented” with an “ultra-velvety and silky” texture that is “long-wearing” and “adheres easily to the eyes.” Most of the shades have semi-opaque to opaque pigmentation that applies well to bare skin, blends out without issue, and lasts for seven to eight hours. The matte eyeshadows tend to be a little more powdery, though soft and finely-milled, in the pan, while the shimmers have a creamier, dense consistency. Occasionally, the more sparkly or metallic shades apply better with fingertips or a dampened brush.

Pretty Cruel

Pretty Cruel is a medium, reddish plum with strong,w arm undertones and a faint golden sparkle strewn throughout the matte finish. It had opaque color coverage paired with a soft, lightly powdery consistency that was quite blendable on my skin and had just a smidgen of fallout. It wore well for eight hours on me before starting to fade a bit.

Bare Minimum

Bare Minimum is a bright, medium berry with subtle, cool undertones and flecks of sparkle and finer shimmer. It had a soft, more loosely-pressed consistency and was incredibly pigmented, where a little went a long way, so I’d highly recommend using a light touch when working with this shade. The color applied well to bare skin and blended out with ease. It stayed on well for eight and a half hours on me.

Earthshine

Earthshine is a sparkling, pinky-lavender with warm, orange undertones and blue-to-lavender shifting shimmer paired with a more metallic finish. It had good color payoff–just shy of full coverage–that adhered well to bare skin and blended out with little effort along the edges. The texture was soft, lightly emollient to the touch, and picked up well with dry brushes while still delivering that intense, high-shine finish. It lasted well for eight hours on me before it started to fade a bit.

Chick Lit

Chick Lit is a deeper purple with cool undertones and a pearly sheen. It had a denser, thicker consistency, so it needed a firmer hand to pick up to get nearly opaque coverage in one layer. Then, the eyeshadow had to be pressed and patted onto my lid to get an even application out of it. If I used a dampened brush, it was a bit easier to pick up but much more readily spread out and blended out on my lid. It wore well for eight hours on me before I noticed any fading.

Ingredients

Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Dimethicone, Silica, Calcium Aluminum Borosilicate, Magnesium Myristate, Lauroyl Lysine, Boron Nitride, Dimethiconol, Phenoxyethanol, Tin Oxide, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Hexylene Glycol, Iron Oxides (CI 77491), Mica (CI 77019), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891).

Mr. Sandman

Mr. Sandman has a plummy-brown base with cooler, pink-to-blue shifting sparkle and finer shimmer paired with a metallic finish. It had rich pigmentation that applied well to bare skin with a smooth, even application. The consistency was more loosely-pressed, so I had to be careful to pat and press it onto my skin to avoid fallout during application. However, it was easier to use than the single originally launched. It started to show signs of fading after eight and a half hours of wear.

Fan Fiction

Fan Fiction is a medium-dark pink with subtle, cool undertones and a mostly matte finish. The eyeshadow had semi-opaque, buildable pigmentation with a soft, lightly dusty consistency that blended out nicely without losing its intensity or coverage (unless intended). It lasted nicely for eight hours on me before it started to fade.

Sleeper

Sleeper is a deep berry with cool undertones and a matte finish. It had rich color payoff that applied evenly to bare skin, but it did seem to take a bit of extra effort to really blow out the edges for a seamless blend. The texture was drier in the pan but did not read dry on my skin, and there was only a touch of fallout during application. It wore well for eight and a half hours before it started to show signs of fading. The version in the palette was slightly deeper–but more pigmented in one layer–and ran a touch cooler in overall tone than the single.

Ingredients

Boron Nitride, Aluminum Starch Octenylsuccinate, Zinc Stearate, Dimethicone, Phenoxyethanol, Lauroyl Lysine, Caprylyl Glycol, Dimethiconol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Hexylene Glycol, Blue 1 Lake (CI 42090), Carmine (CI 75470), Iron Oxides (CI 77499), Mica (CI 77019), Red 7 Lake (CI 15850). *Not intended for use in the immediate eye area.

Another highly rated, affordable palette from Colourpop! 😀 I am a really big fan of this brand.

It’s My Pleasure has too many pinks and plums for my face, but it’s a very pretty range of shades.

(I still don’t understand eyeshadows that are not intended for the “immediate eye area.” Where or how are they supposed to be used?)

It is a disclaimer so the brand can sell them but not be liable for usage on the eyes. You could certainly use them on the cheeks (powder blush/powder highlighter) or lips (add shimmer or mattify).

The disclaimer is deterrence for lawsuits, nothing more. No reasonable judge would find that a normal person would consider these not for the eye area when they are called “eyeshadow” and used in an “eyeshadow palette” (as opposed to an “eye and cheek palette”.) It’s kindof sketchy in my opinion. But I’ve already given up on Colourpop pressed shadows due to allergic reactions so it matters not so much to me. I just hope people are careful.

I certainly agree that it looks like eyeshadow over anything else. It would be interesting to see it tested, as the palette is a “pressed powder palette” (per the label) and the shades that aren’t eye safe are “pressed pigments” (the same type of verbiage many other brands use).

It’s worth nothing that other regulatory bodies (not FDA) have approved those ingredients for use on the eyes (like Canada/EU), so we’re definitely not in territory that’s equivalent to say, using craft glitter in a product that looks like an eyeshadow.

Going off what Christine said, some countries also have different standards for what qualifies as “eye safe” or not. Lots of products sold as eye safe in the EU are not considered eye safe in the US.

I hope this means ColourPop will release more colorful palettes! This color scheme doesn’t do it for me personally, but it’s nice to see them do something different.

Can this greenish eyed peep ever have enough purple eyeshadow palettes? NOPE! So, yes I will *probably* permit myself this perfect smaller palette that would allow me to go plummy glam or wildly vivid purple and lavender!

I love this – I just wish they’d done more purple! The Ohh La La palette was pretty much solidly pink, minus the darker plum shade at the bottom, so I feel like they could have done better to stick with the purple theme here. Otherwise, super pretty. I think I’ll pick this one up to compliment my pink palette.

I am a purple, berry, plum lover and so this palette appeals to me. I was comparing this to the Huda Obsessions palette in amethyst and I feel like this is probably a better palette in that when I swatched the Huda palette I found some of the shades to be too powdery and splotchy. Granted, I didn’t apply the Huda shadows to my eyes so they could have applied so much better on the eye than in swatches and the Huda palette had probably been swatched a million times, affecting their performance. That said, this is a very affordable palette from a brand that consistently puts out great shadows. The other drawback for me is that it is bigger than the Huda palette so maybe not as travel friendly. The Huda formula frequently crumbles so that would make it not the greatest travel palette either. Neither is a stand alone palette for me. As you can see, I keep going back and forth on this palette and trying to decide whether it is worth breaking my no/low buy. It is a palette that I am considering.

I bought this because I needed something to fill the purple void the Norvina palette left – pretty, in my opinion, but barely any purple. This looks a little closer.

Do or Dough is a disappointment to me; I thought it would be more purple but it’s really pink. Other than that, this is a great palette that I will probably pick up in a couple of months if they don’t do one better.

Why do brands put ingredients into their eyeshadows that are not safe around the eye area? That is weird.
Anyway, if you are into pinks and purples, this is definitely the palette for you – great rating and a reasonable price.

I think they have to say that so that they can’t get sued, because sometimes pressed pigments can stain the eyelid. They intend them to be used for the eyes and know everyone will use them on their eyes. It’s all for liability sake.

It’s them covering their butts. The ingredients are approved in Canada and the EU, but not yet by the FDA. Some people are sensitive to certain ingredients. It’s usually advised to spot test such shades first, and keep them out of the waterlines.

I’m so glad this is good, as mine’s on the way. I wasn’t too worried with it being CP, but one never knows with purples. I think it’s a gorgeous palette, though I wish it hadn’t been so pink-heavy. I love pinks, and warm purple shades. However, IMHO it’s kind of cheating when CP specifically touted this as a purple palette.

This is really pretty and wow the price!! It will be hard to resist but I have too many palettes as it is.

Eye shadows are my fav makeup item to buy.

Wow that purple chic lit is impressive. Purples are notoriously hard to formulate. I don’t know if I have use for this palette but it looks fun for sure

While this does have some similar colors overall to the purple color story of Jaclyn Hill’s Bling Boss Vault, Colourpop can do no wrong and has the best price point EVER so I will of course “need” to buy this one too… 😻 P. S. Thank you for having such thorough reviews! Even though I work at Ulta, anytime I’m on the bubble about a makeup and/or not able to see it in person yet, I will always check your review first! Your reviews and swatches have also led me to give palettes I might not have thought I would like, a second look and a purchase. You are the Yelp of makeup!

Well, it’s time to go to sleep. I was trying to catch up from having missed so much the past two months. I forgot that I have dupes for five colors, and very good ones, so that’s that! I really am going to have to make a database where I note all my dupes for newer palettes that I like.
