Baracuda

ColourPop Baracuda Ultra Satin Liquid Lipstick ($6.00 for 0.11 fl. oz.) is a deep plum with subtle, warm undertones and a semi-matte finish. It was more matte than most of the Ultra Satins are in the beginning, as most of the Ultra Satins have a bit of a sheen that then wears down to a matte finish after a few hours of wear. The texture was smooth, but thin, and spread evenly across the lips. I felt like this was one of the few Ultra Satins that seemed to emphasize the texture of my lips (more like an Ultra Matte would), but it was still more comfortable to wear than the average liquid lipstick. The formula was lightly drying after four hours, while the color lasted closer to eight hours.

Formula Overview

$7.00/0.11 oz. - $63.64 Per Ounce

It is supposed to be a “lightweight, bold lipstick with a satin finish”liquid lipstick that is “extra intense colour saturation” and “long-wearing,” but the brand is quick to note that it is “not completely kiss proof.” The consistency is very light to lightweight with a thin to mousse-like consistency–they feel a little heavier going on than the Ultra Matte formula, but they don’t feel heavy on. They dry down somewhat, but it isn’t a full, flat dry down like matte liquid lipsticks, and when you press your lips together, there is moderate tackiness there, but I didn’t notice any lifting or separating of color by doing so.

They have been extremely long-wearing and comfortable to wear for the most part–it’s after ten hours or so that I notice my lips feeling a little dry–but six hours into wear and the colors have looked good post-meals/post-drinking. I think if you like the idea of longer-wearing, mostly matte lip color but find most liquid lipsticks too drying or too flat while not needing an ultra-hydrating formula, you might like these.

Femme

ColourPop Femme Ultra Satin Liquid Lipstick ($6.00 for 0.11 fl. oz.) is a deepened, grayish purple with neutral-to-warm undertones and a cream finish. It was actually glossier and did not dry down as quickly (at least not to that “mostly dry” period) compared to most shades in the Ultra Satin formula that I have tried. I waited a solid half hour for the swatch to “set,” when I normally only wait a few minutes, and it was still not dry. The same was true on the lips, and as a result, it had a lot more transfer for the first few hours. Despite the transfer, it was so pigmented that one could hardly see a difference in color or coverage, only that the shine wore away over time. It was comfortable to wear for six hours, and then it felt a touch drying, but it went on for eight hours all in all. It also seemed to be a more unique color from my experience!

Just bought femme, I should be getting it in soon! Love your posts. I go on your page everyday and just wanted to say I loveee the new setup. MUCH BETTER! I’d be lost w/o your website by the way!!!

I second that sentiment. I didn’t think it would be possible to improve upon what I saw as perfection, but you did Christine. Your hard work and labor of love is always my number one source of information and inspiration. Thanks for everything you do here.

I ordered Barracuda last week and already got the e-mail that it arrived today! It looks darker than I expected but so pretty! It will definitely be unique to my collection since I don’t have a color close to this. Can’t wait to play with it.

I put in my first ColourPop order a few weeks ago and am discovering that “darker than I expected” seems to be par for the course with…. ummm, everything I ordered. Which was about five things. (I had a coupon!)

I don’t know. Maybe it’s just because I’m quite pale, but even Solow — which is supposed to be a rosy terracotta — looked almost clownish on me when I tried it out yesterday.

The Lippie Stix are great! Loved Lumiere and Grunge both and am considering trying Contempo.

But there’s something with the ultra matte formula just not staying remotely true to color on me. Actually, I got the names backwards. I ordered Bumble, which is supposed to be a warm, rosy terracotta. Looks clownish for some reason. Solow is supposed to be a neutral nude pink and… somehow turns Barbie pink on me. Like, it *almost* matches my KvD Bauhau5. I have no idea what gives! Do you find yours change, too?

I have noticed a couple of the CP liquid lipsticks to be a tad darker but not to the point where it looks that different on me. You know what I do that helps? I go on Instagram before I order lipsticks and search the color under the tag (#colourpopsolow, for example) so I can see it on other people in different skin tones and lighting and that gives me a better idea of what the color is going to look like.

Try on Thistle, and adjust as indicated. Why not? If you’re in big S…. Did you get Gone Greige? Seems like that family. Deeply Rooted is quite purple on me, at the darker end of that spectrum arc. (Lots browner on Christine.) Looked at CP last night. They have lots of great stuff out now. Admittedly, Femme is in my current non-bold wheelhouse, and might be cooler than you like. Still think it would look pretty nice on you. Contrast can be a good thing.

Femme is an interesting and unique color! Either I’m going to look really cool and edgy OR really, really dead, and not in a good way

I have both of these already – Femme runs a little too grey on me for my liking but it is still a beautiful shade. I’ve found that some of the more recent Ultra Satins do end up quite matte – I got November yesterday and it seems a lot wetter to apply and doesn’t dry down fully but when you blot, it pretty much goes matte… Also the new doe foot wand is smaller and fluffier, which I don’t love either.

Their new Holiday collection looks interesting!

What happened to my no buy for self? Think I’d better jump on Femme. It would be in my new second family of color (after deep brown reds.). Noticed I’m also building a Sephora six well that seems to be an extension of En Taupe. Cool friendly, if not cool…. Like both of these a lot. CP for holiday is interesting. They gave advance notice, which was good.

You are so right. No children, just dogs and color families. Better do it this w/e. Then stop buying makeup and start using it. Love thistle, gone greige, deeply rooted for a dark take, bite multistick gelato, which is NOT what Christine got, in my Sephora, and some Nyxs. The grayed look is fine by me. Esp since I do few pinks and zero corals. Greige is far better for me than beige, pink, or peach nudes.
