Coloured Raine Spring 2017 Matte Eyeshadows Reviews, Photos, Swatches
Angel Face
Coloured Raine Angel Face Eyeshadow ($6.99 for 0.064 oz.) is a soft, medium peach with warm, orange undertones and a matte finish. It had rich, opaque pigmentation with a soft, silky consistency that wasn’t too powdery nor was it too firmly pressed in the pan, which made it easy to blend and diffuse on the lid. The eyeshadow wore well for eight hours before fading on me.

Formula Overview
$6.99/0.064 oz. - $109.22 Per Ounce
2022 Formula: The formula is supposed to be "highly pigmented" and "blendable" with a "butterly smooth" feel. The majority of the matte eyeshadows were quite pigmented, while some of the shimmers were overly emollient, which resulted in sheerer and/or uneven coverage.
The matte eyeshadows have a bit of dryness to them, though they were pigmented and fairly blendable, but they tended to apply best over an eyeshadow primer, which ensured a better base for them to adhere to. The shimmer eyeshadows were best applied with fingertips or a flat, firm (and sometimes dampened) brush and pressed/patted into place, then lightly blended.
I did not love the two finishes paired together as the matte finish was thinner and more powdery compared to the thicker, denser shimmers, so the shimmers often "erased" the matte eyeshadows when blended out.
The formula was different than the brand's original single pan formula that they originally debuted with, and I preferred their original formula overall, though the new one is decent, just not as foolproof to work with.
Original formula review: The formula is supposed to be "highly pigmented, long-lasting, and blendable" and come in a variety of finishes. Most their eyeshadows are semi-opaque to opaque with a smooth, blendable textures that are easy to use and apply well to bare skin. The shimmers are slightly dense and creamier to the touch compared to the mattes, which aren't thin but don't have the same amount of slip. They tend to wear between eight and nine hours on me.

Gumby
Coloured Raine Gumby Eyeshadow ($6.99 for 0.064 oz.) is a medium-dark green with cool undertones and a matte finish. It had good color payoff, which was buildable to opaque coverage in two layers. The consistency was a touch drier in the pan, particularly noticeable by touch, but when I applied it to the lid, it blended out fairly well. The color stayed on well for almost nine hours.

Majestic
Coloured Raine Majestic Eyeshadow ($6.99 for 0.064 oz.) is a brighter, medium blue with cool undertones and a matte finish. The color payoff was nearly opaque, and it was buildable to full coverage by patting on a little more. I found it easiest to work with by building up the color or using a flat brush to pat on the product, and then use a clean, fluffy brush to diffuse the edges as it wasn’t the easiest eyeshadow to blend out otherwise. I noticed fading after eight and a half hours of wear.

GUMBY!!!! How hilarious (I wonder if they had to pay for the rights to use the name). I’m not crazy for the shadow itself, but would almost buy it just for the name.
It is very dead-on!
Are they going to release Pokey next? Native is kind of close to Pokey’s color. I will have to get this one, too. I’ll just use it as an under eye liner.
Angel Face is for me — I have been looking for a peachy eyeshadow — and Native too while I’m at it. These will be my first Coloured Raine products;, looking forward to it.
Hope you enjoy ’em, AB!
Wow! Impressive mattes. I have dupes for several shades from MUG and Anastasia, and I have been very happy with them, but it looks like these are even better.
They are quite nice!
Ok wow, these are good matte shades…..
They were easy to use!
While I’m sure I have dupes, Hot Cocoa and Native are lovely shades! I like Gumby, as well- the name is quite cute. 🙂
Gumby is well named!
I really like the look of Gumby. That’s a really unique shade and would be a good addition to my hoard of green eye shadows.
It is a more unique color!
Gumby is such an odd name, but it’s perfect for that shade!
It is!
Gumby is so well named!! Brings back some fun memories
It was!
Pretty!!!! I love how Majestic applies far warmer of a blue than it appears in the pan! Almost teal in undertone. And Gumby is a beautiful cooler dark green! Those are my personal faves. Native, too, as it is different enough from Brown Script for me to justify having both, I think?
If you wear a lot of browns, I think it is different enough!
These matte shadows have achieved a pretty good rating for such an inexpensive product. Whilst none of these colours really appealed to me, I think they are excellent shadows. Beautiful eye look Christine.
I agree! Mattes are tough to do right, especially since I test without primer!
II love hot cocoa!
Yet another long winded sigh at the name native :/
Hot Cocoa is pretty!
Gumby!!!!! I love it. It’s hard to find a cool green color! I rarely wear green on my eyes because they are green with a central heterochromia so it’s hard to find a green that works with all the tones in my eyes. The out rim of the iris is a dark teal/blue color color, with a green majority and an amber/gold flare right around the pupil. Most warm greens clash with the outer rim color and make the whites of my eyes look jaundiced!
I agree – you don’t see that many cooler greens!
