Pansy Pop

Clinique Pansy Pop Cheek Pop Blush ($25.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a brightened, light-medium lavender with a hint of pink and a satiny sheen.

he texture was soft, smooth and very blendable on the skin, while the finish is softly luminous without being too shimmery or dewy, so it didn’t emphasize pores and gave skin a smoother appearance. It had semi-opaque, buildable coverage, but it was one of the lesser pigmented Cheek Pops I’ve come across. It wore well for eight hours on me before fading.

Formula Overview

$21.00/0.12 oz. - $175.00 Per Ounce

The formula is described as “vibrant yet natural-looking cheek colour that looks virtually powderless.” The texture was smooth, soft, and dense, so it was never powdery in the pan or on the skin. The blush had good color payoff that was easily sheered out (or you could apply less, as the denser texture makes that easy to control).

It’s the kind of texture that almost blends itself as soon as you start applying and working it onto the skin. The finish became more luminous as I blended the powder onto the skin, but it was never shiny or overly shimmery, so it always looked smooth on my skin and did not emphasize pores or my skin’s texture. Most shades lasted between eight and nine hours on me.

When worn in a subtle way, would this just look the same as a cool toned blush like MAC Peony Petal or MUFE 210 or MUFE’s I922 eyeshadow?

Christine Avatar

It’s going to depend on your application method, undertone, and skin color. All of those show up differently on me.

I am assuming you meant Make Up For Ever 210 HD Blush, but please correct me if I’m wrong, as there is an Artist Shadow with that number, but is is Sapphire, which is a blue. #210 HD Blush is pink and warmer toned. I922 is brighter and purpler, less pink. MAC Peony Petal might look the closest if you sheer it out, but it still appears a lot brighter on me.

Ammara Avatar

Sorry, yes, that’s what I meant! I have those three, and they all look similar on me, not the same, with I922 being visibly more purple and with a different finish, but I think I’ll pass even though this is lavender! There’s something about shades of purple..

Oh, I’ve been looking for a lavender pink blush, and the flower design is so cute!! So spring-like. Do you know of some lipsticks that might match this blush?

Katherine T. Avatar

I have MAC Pink Swoon- it is warmer, pinker, and brighter, but if you sheer it out, it does bring out some purple tones (probably more magenta than lavender), but on my cheeks, it pulls more pink.

Carrie Avatar

I’ve got porcelain skin and lavender shades are some of my favorite because they give me that nice glow but don’t add redness to my skin like pinks are apt to do! Check it out, you might fall in love with the idea just like I did 🙂

xamyx Avatar

I like this one, although I didn’t think I would, but there’s enough pink in it that it actually looks natural. Most lavender shades just don’t seem to blend in with my skin, and I feel like I have 2 patches of purple on my face. I think I’ll have to swatch this when I find in a store.

Sunny Avatar

Ahh I can’t wait to see all the new shades! The Cheek Pops are likely to stay online exclusives here in Belgium, so your swatches and reviews are INVALUABLE for me! I don’t own a lot of lavender at all (read: hardly any), but I love how this looks on you!

Bryn Avatar

I’ve been anxiously waiting and hoping you’d review these, Christine!! I’ve been dying for swatches of all of them. Can’t wait for what you have to say about the rest 🙂

Hope Avatar

so glad to see your reviews of these! i’m also a huge fan of the cheek pops.

it’s ok if you don’t know, but do you have any information about when these will be released at counters?

Rachel R. Avatar

Oh, my, this is a gorgeous lavender. I haven’t tried these yet, but I may have to splurge on this for spring. Glad to see it’s permanent.

BOTTÂNICA BOTTANIQUE Avatar

Oh, what a lovely shade! SO feminine! I’m in love. One more item to my collection.

(Thank you, dear! Have a nice weekend!)
Lauren.

Alice Avatar

This is absolutely lovely! I’ve been wanting a lavender and or purple blush and while I think this won’t be it(I need less pink) I may get this. Do you think these can be depotted?

Jane Avatar

Gerbera daisies are one of my least favorite flowers, so I have avoided these for that reason (honestly, I have no need beyond that desire of a makeup lover to ACQUIRE), and I keep lavender colored products off my lips and cheeks, but this looks beautiful on you and I love your enthusiasm about this product. I think of it every time I see it on the counter. : )

This is all I have: http://www.temptalia.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/clinique_peachpop007.jpg

I didn’t notice it seems to continue before, and all my boxes from my most recent order are recycled now (as in, the city has already taken my recycling) so I’ll try to remember to photograph the box again whenever Clinique ships my backordered shades. I would recommend writing to Clinique, though.

Kitty Avatar

Thank you! I just found out I’m allergic to chromium oxide pigments. Both pigments are in a lot of makeup. Nars lists it as a “+-” ingredient on its blushes, so I’ll likely have to quit wearing them. Nice that Clinique doesn’t list either chromium oxide pigment.

Kitty Avatar

Trina, that’s okay. I was able to view the link that Temptalia gave me. Confirmed that chromium oxide pigments aren’t in the Clinique blush. This is one line for me to look at to replace my Nars blushes!

Thanks for the offer.

Alicia Avatar

Hi! I’m going to put this here since I’m not sure if you check older reviews. Are you able to tell me why Clinique Peach Pop received an A and not an A+. I did not see any faults listed. Just curious. Thank you!

beauty and fitness guru Avatar

I have a soft spot for cute flower packaging. Clinique got it right with this shade. I do not know why but I want to get everything lavender this spring – lavender blushes, lipsticks and even T-shirts. If it wasn’t for such a small weight, I would have snatched this blush.

This shade makes you look so refreshed, Christine.

Jess T Avatar

I’m sooooo excited for more shades although it will be hard to choose. I have the peach one and love it. Great for every occasion and day!

Erica Avatar

Lavender is my favorite color in all its variations, but it looks horrible as a blush color on my dark golden complexion. I can wear lavender e/s, nail polish, lipstick, but lavender blush eludes me (lol). In the meantime I’m Indiana Jones, enjoying the hunt until I find a suitable pairing. This looks great on you Christine.

Mandy Avatar

Hi Christine!
I love these! I am fairly pale, I wear YSL beige 10 foundation. What shades would you recommend for me in these cheek pops? I want to grab a few.
They all look beautiful on you:)

Mandy Avatar

I’m sorry if this posts twice! I’m having issues today 🙂
I’m taking your advice and grabbing pansy pop and rosy pop, but if I have NARS orgasm in the stick, should I pass up peach pop? Is melon pop a better option?
Thanks again for everything you do 🙂

Alina Avatar

I wanted these so badly! But soon after the global release, even old Cheek Pops disappeared both from the counters in Moscow shops and from the Clinique Russia site. I managed to find Plum Pop though and hope it’ll make me feel better =)

Courtney Avatar

Is there a particular brush you would recommend using with this blush? I am the fairest of the fair skin girls and I absolutely adore the formulation but cannot really get it to show up that well on my skin. Any suggestions?

Christine Avatar

Hey Courtney,

I haven’t had any issues with using brushes in general with these, but for sure I don’t use my SUQQU with this, since it is a little firmer/not at all powdery. I use Wayne Goss’s blush brush with these a lot and that works well!

Karolin Avatar

Have been loving this ever since I saw it on you! Sadly in Germany we don’t seem to get the new colors (I’ve got Peach Pop and Plum Pop) but my brother happens to be in the States on a business trip and when he sent me some pictures via WhatsApp of himself in a huge shopping mall I asked him to hop into Sephora and see if he could get a hold of Pansy Pop… He just sent me a pic of the little Clinique packaging and the receipt <3
