Clinique Melon Pop Pop Lip Colour + Primer
Clinique Pop Lip Colour + Primer ($18.00 for 0.13 oz.) is supposed to have a “weightless” feel with “bold, saturated colour” that is combined with a “smoothing primer” so it applies with a “modern-velvet finish” (which Clinique also describes as “demi-matte”) and hydrating, 8-hour wear. As you might expect with a Clinique product, the formula has no scent or taste, which is always a bonus. If I ignore a lot of the claims, it’s a fine lipstick, but color coverage is more semi-opaque to opaque, wear three to six hours, and a couple of shades weren’t smoothing. They do feel lightweight with a thin, lightly creamy consistency that slides over the lips without tugging, and they’re lightly hydrating while worn. The shimmery shades seem to apply less smoothly and are more prone to wear issues (pulling into lip lines, shorter wear).
Clinique Melon Pop Pop Lip Colour + Primer ($18.00 for 0.13 oz.) is described as a “light, light creme peach.” It’s a light-medium, pink-peach with fine pearl and a natural finish. It had semi-opaque coverage, but the texture was thin enough that it emphasized lip lines, while the lighter color pulled into them even at initial application. The shimmer in it made it seem almost grainy when I was applying it, though it didn’t actually feel gritty once on. As the color wore away, the color further pulled into lip lines, so it didn’t wear away as evenly as I’d like. All told, it lasted for three and a half hours on me and was lightly hydrating. MAC Reel Sexy (LE, $16.00) is less shimmery. Givenchy Beige Plume (102) (P, $36.00) is less shimmery. NARS Descanso (LE, $25.00) is less shimmery, darker. YSL Peach Passion (13) (P, $34.00) is less shimmery, brighter, glossier. NARS Julie (P, $32.00) is less shimmery, cooler. Chanel Cheri (61) (P, $34.00) is lighter. Chanel Cheri (61) (P, $34.00) is lighter. MAC Real Redhead (LE, $16.00) is more muted. Charlotte Tilbury Bitch Perfect (P, $32.00) is less shimmery, darker. ColourPop Fiesta (P, $5.00) is less shimmery, lighter, brighter. MAC Ever Hip (LE, $16.00) is glossier. MAC Coral Bliss (P, $16.00) is cooler. Burberry Devon Sunset (P, $30.00) is darker, glossier. Clinique Poppy Pop Pop Lip Colour + Primer ($18.00 for 0.13 oz.) is described as a “mid-tone orange creme.” It’s a brightened, medium orange-red coral with warm undertones and a satin finish. It had fairly opaque coverage that went on evenly and smoothly without gathering into lip lines. This shade lasted for six hours on me and was hydrating while worn. Estee Lauder Fierce (P, $30.00) is more muted. Bite Beauty #003 (LE, $36.00) is brighter. Maybelline Rose Rush (735) (P, $7.49) is brighter. Tom Ford Beauty Adriano (LE, $32.00) is cooler. Tom Ford Beauty Diego (LE, $32.00) is warmer. Estee Lauder Carnal (P, $30.00) is brighter, glossier. MAC Excite (LE, $16.00) is warmer. Bobbi Brown Lady Ruba (P, $26.00) is lighter, warmer. Tom Ford Beauty True Coral (P, $50.00) is cooler. MAC True Red (LE, $16.00) is brighter, warmer. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Clinique Sweet Pop Pop Lip Colour + Primer ($18.00 for 0.13 oz.) is described as a “bright, yellow pink creme.” It’s a muted, light-medium pink with subtle, cool undertones and a natural sheen. It had mostly opaque color payoff that went on fairly smoothly. It leans bluish in the tube, swatched, and applied, though if you swatch it next to a very strongly blue-based pink, it doesn’t look as cool-toned, but next to yellower pinks, it stands out, but it might be one of those shades that will lean warmer/cooler depending on your undertones and what you pair it with. It lasted for four and a half hours and was hydrating over time. Marc Jacobs Beauty Jolly Molly (220) (P, $30.00) is lighter. ColourPop Sweet-Thing (LE, $5.00) is lighter, brighter. ColourPop Fetch (P, $5.00) is lighter, brighter, less glossy. NARS Marisa (P, $32.00) is lighter, brighter. Estee Lauder Powerful (P, $30.00) is lighter, brighter. Bobbi Brown Pink Flush (LE, $25.00) is more shimmery, lighter. YSL Fetish Pink (8) (P, $34.00) is lighter, brighter, glossier. Too Faced Razzle Dazzle Rose (P, $22.00) is lighter. MAC What a Feeling! (LE, $20.00) is lighter. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

Hm, I might get Sweet Pop! A nice, light summer color that I can wear with either warm or cooler looks.
It is a pretty shade!
sweet pop is right up my ally! I like the price point on these too.
Yay!
I have Melon Pop and I quite like it. I agree that it doesn’t apply as flawlessy as some of the other shades though.
How is the wear for you? I was surprised at how short these were!
They transfer quite a bit, but despite that the colors stay put pretty well on me.
I was waiting for a review of these. Melon pop was on my list, but I already have bitch perfect aND I’m not excited by the grade.
Covered! 🙂
Whoa Poppy Pop! So pretty! But I’m still leaning towards EL’s Fierce – I love that formula so much more!
EL’s formula is quite nice!
I went to swatch them recently and I wasn’t too impressed with the lighter shades. Some of the deeper ones however looked gorgeous, Cherry Pop in particular.
The darker ones definitely seem to be a bit better!
not such a nice texture
It isn’t as forgiving as some lipsticks!
Sweet Pop looks interesting – I like that it doesn’t lean too warm or too cool, and it’s not light enough to wash me out. Pretty color for a soft, sweet look
It is a nice color!
I own several Clinique lipsticks which I love but have not tried this formula yet. So far it is not impressing me at all.
Bummer 🙁
Clinique Poppy Pop Pop Lip Colour + Primer – I know this is just what the product is called, but c’mon, I can’t be the only person that giggled at “Poppy Pop Pop”.
lol! 😉
I found the formula of these so so disappointing.. thin, drying and uneven! I had such high hopes! 🙁
Aww! 🙁 I had higher hopes, too!
I like Sweet Pop and Plum Pop looks nice as well. I’ve been wearing MAC Sweetie and Hot Gossip and they both have less wear time than these. Time for a change 🙂
Sweetie – what a great shade!
I bought some of these (Sweet Pop, Love Pop and Plum Pop) on a whim to get the Clinique gift. They’re nice enough lipsticks but nothing special, although I absolutely love when brands adapt the packaging to the colour of the lipstick as it makes it so much easier to find in my storage system!
100% agree with your review of Sweet Pop. 🙂 Not sure what Clinique were thinking when they decided to call these lipsticks “demi-matte”. 😛
You sum it up well, Sheb! They’re nice as far as a lipstick goes, but they’re not special (and they’re not delivering on all those promises!).
Sweet Pop is the perfect name for such a sweet, demure everyday pink lippy! I already had the ColourPop dupe on my wishlist…decisions, decisions!
So many lipsticks, so little time!
OMG!!!! You reviewed these!!! I’m really glad I put off hauling these so I can get your thoughts. I’m going to wait on your thoughts on Love Pop, Plum Pop and Grape Pop before I do bc I was thinking about those too. Going to get Sweet Pop and Cherry Pop for sure.
Hope you like ’em, Maggie!
Poppy Pop looks stunning on you! Sweet Pop looks mighty nice too
Thanks, Fancie!
Pretty colors, but they’re not anything special. It doesn’t sound like the line-filling primer part worked out very well.
Agreed!
I’m all about long wear so I grabbed Nude pop and gave it a try. Lasted a couple of hours and transferred the entire time. It was ok otherwise but not what I was looking for.
I’m in love with the reformulated (I think, definitely repackaged) Loreal infallible lipsticks.. the traditional tube version…those suckers last almost all day with a light touch up after a meal, barely transfer after a blot (and retain most of their color), and don’t dry my lips out in the slightest. I had picked up a few and liked every one of them so I bought the rest at Rite Aid since Loreal is 40% off this week.
Thanks for the rec!
Very pretty summer colours. I like the Poppy Pop one the best.
That’s a pretty one!
I was excited about this concept with the blushes, but this wouldn’t be my first pick for lipstick formula. The finish here isn’t doing anything to rope me in. It’s not matte or satin, but somewhere in between and it falls flat even on the brighter shades.
If it performed better, they’d be more interesting!
I’ll have to check these out in person, the texture issues I’ll have to see if they work for my lips.
Keep me posted!
Christine, the mattes and long last lines really do wear well! It’s a bummer these didn’t follow the footsteps.
Thanks for the heads up!
I’m not sure any of these appeal to me!
Bummer!
Yay! I was hoping you’d review these. I saw the fun packaging and was tempted but thought I’d wait. Looking forward to review and swatches of Love Pop. The shimmery finish on that looked almost metallic.
Love Pop is nice!
I bought Cola Pop when these were new because I hoped they would be as great as the cheek pops! I love the color but the lipstick itself was underwhelming. It’s pretty and applies smoothly but just doesn’t last like it’s supposed to, and it doesn’t wear off evenly for me. I think that “color plus PRIMER” is a bunch of bs. I almost got Grape pop too so I’m interested to see how that does!
Right?? If it was really like a primer + lipstick, it would be interesting, but it’s more like a regular lipstick.
The packaging is too cute!!! 🙂
At least there’s that!
Finally! Been waiting for a review about these lipsticks! Thanks Christine. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the rest of the shades! Will you be reviewing all 16?
No, sorry, I don’t have all 16.
