Clarins Spring 2016 Ombre Iridescente Cream Eyeshadows Review, Photos, Swatches
Clarins Silver Ivory Ombre Iridescente Cream Eyeshadow
Clarins Ombre Iridescente Cream Eyeshadow ($24.00 for 0.20 oz.) is a cream-to-powder eyeshadow that is supposed to adhere well to skin, last long, and give “pure color.” The texture is lightly spongy, where it has give if you press against it, but it doesn’t have the wetness of your traditional cream eyeshadow. The texture is smooth, lightweight, and blendable, while color coverage was mostly opaque to opaque. The three I tried lasted between seven and eight hours on me. You’ll notice that Silver Ivory has come away from the edges of the pot, but it didn’t seem drier in texture compared to the others and pretty much performed similarly!
Clarins Silver Ivory Ombre Iridescente Cream Eyeshadow ($24.00 for 0.20 oz.) is a muted, light-medium golden pewter with warm undertones and a pearly sheen. The consistency was easy to use, blendable, and retained most of its opacity when applied to the lid without sheering out too readily. On me, it lasted for seven and a half hours before creasing. LORAC French Toast (LE, $19.00) is lighter (95% similar). Cle de Peau Serenity (Right) (PiP, ) is lighter (95% similar). Giorgio Armani #19 (DC, $33.00) is lighter, brighter (90% similar). I have Silver Green myself and I quite like it. I usually wear only powder eyeshadow, so the fact that this formula won me over says enough 🙂
Yay! That’s great to hear 🙂
Pink Ombre looks pretty close to Dior’s Chimere. Nice to see a cream formula that’s getting a positive review for a change! I was beginning to lose faith 😉
Haha!
These are lovely! These might be what I was hoping the Burberry Eye Color Creams were going to be. The texture looks good and I like the color payoff. I’m impressed, Clarins, save for their concealer, has never really been on my radar. I’ll have to check these out next time I’m in store.
They definitely have a more emollient feel compared to the Burberry ones, which I know you did not like. These remind me more of Chanel’s with a little less spring.
I’m not a fan of the Burberry either. A friend of mine was so enthusiastic. I find they come up rather dull on me and I invariably reach for TF or Tilbury (I’m lucky they work on me just fine).
Oh, dear! I love these! Think they are beautiful! Want them!
They are pretty!
Very interesting! Christine, compared to last year or all years on average, have there been more or less products busting out this year? I’m so curious. Thank you!
It’s only January, so I really have no idea yet!
Now it is February! ? I meant are you able to compare last January with this January? ? And I just realized that these shadows are what you were wearing and I admired in many reviews a little while back. I wasn’t sure what they were! Other than this look you have worn these really well. What formula would you say they are most comparable to?
It seems about the same to me 🙂
These are similar to all of the cream-powder hybrids like Chanel Illusion d’Ombres, Dior DiorShow Fusion Monos, ColourPop Super Shock, etc.!
Would you say these are similar to the Colour Pop formula?
Yes, it’s the same type of formula! 🙂
Thanks. I’ll stick with CP, but it’s nice to know if a really unique shade came out, that these might work for me.
I have several of Clarins’s original matte Ombre Cream shadows and really like them a lot. Given how much I love me some sheen, I’m certain to love these new glowy ones a whole lot. Just have to make sure I don’t have tons of dupes since these really are shades that appeal to me in such a big way that I invariably have multiple similar shades.
Will have to look into the matte ones! I find that the shimmers are easier to nail but mattes have fallen short sometimes!
*Thanks for your review! I’ve been eyeing these ever since I saw your beautiful eye looks! I don’t think I have anything like Silver Pink, think it will go well with NARS Kari, which is coming Monday. These remind me of the Burberry cream shadows except, you get a lot more product (.20 oz vs. .13 oz) for a better price ($24 vs. $30).
*Do you have the Silver Green shimmer one?
*Any plans to review the Matte ones that just came out? I would love to pick up some Mattes in this creme-to-powder formula, as it tends to perform better on my oily lids, then traditional powder mattes. And it’s hard to find mattes in this kind of hybrid formula.
Sorry, these are the only ones I have!
I’m in the market for cream eye shadows and i’m anxiously awaiting your reviews on the TF new ones (as i know they always score well) but these have definitely caught my eye (and price looks reasonable). The great news is that these are permanent so i can take my time before purchasing.
Oh, and i wonder if Wwendy could chime in to confirm if they are ‘tractor-proof’ (still one of my favourite lines!).
Haha! 🙂
Hi Helen, I’m not her but if you don’t mind my saying I find them iron clad as they have always been. The colors are beautiful. There is a complex nuance with each that is flattering on the eye. I already had Platinum, spice, the black from the Oyster Pearl duo, Night sky, spring2015. Spice is a HG for me. I added Opale, my new HG light white golden champagne, Sphinx, very pretty pink with golden copper classy shift, Burnished Gold, a deep mossy golden khaki, love it, siren blue, so multi pretty I can’t describe it, Midnight Violet, stretches from a complex multi nuance Violet to a deeper purple blue with a deep chocolate hint I swear peeking.. inky! They sheer out, build up well and last until you take them off. I’m guessing the black platinum and spice are the same I have.
Hi Joy, thanks so much for the info!
Hi Helen, you’re welcome! I hope you get to try them! 🙂
Thanks for the descriptions and your assessment of the TF cream shadows, which I’ve never used. I’ve been spying the new collection to determine which ones to try. Sphinyx is a must have, and I’m intrigued by Platinum , Opale, and Midnight Violet.
Hi Tracey E! I’m so happy to do so! When I first tried them it changed my makeup life! 🙂 You can look up reviews here on Temptalia for platinum, Spice, Spring 2015, Cream color duos, pink haze, escapade, and her reviews sing praises of them! Just search Tom ford cream color here and Christine has all the info! Have fun!
Will do!. I feel my list growing. TF has my wallet this Spring, for sure. Thanks again!
Hi Helen: I have to say I love the name Helen. When I was just a kid one of my mom’s friends was named Helen and to me she was the coolest women to walk the face of the planet. This was way back in the late 60’s and she was strikingly beautiful, elegant, had a wardrobe of hip super mod clothing, wore makeup and heels. She was iconic to me and I have such fond memories of her.
TF cream shadows are Tractor approved (BTW.. my tractor even has a name: Blue Sky..) LOL
Nice story about a women who influenced you, real synchronicity. I’m happy you have and obv love them too! How are you using the colors, Wwendy? Blue Sky sounds apropos for a name for a look! Tractor.. Makes me smile. ?
Hey there Joy 😀 I use the TF cream shadows mostly as one and done. I also will often co-ordinate with a Marc Jacobs eyeliner for a super simple and quick eye look. I have small hooded eyes and the cream shadows brighten and enliven my eye area, but do not draw as much attention to my ‘hoods’ as many powder eyeshadows with shimmer formula seem to. If I’m being fussy, I will add a touch of matte shadow just above crease to create the illusion of a little more definition, but overall these end up being (especially Spring 2015, and Platinum..my two personal favs so far) my HG quick makeup look go to product.
Brilliant.. I think the new siren blue cream shadow needs to be in the Blue Sky eye look. Yes!
Hello Wwendy! Amen. Preach! You.. complete me. 😀 I feel the same way. Best one and done! A MJB highliner and voila! Open eyes! I will use the deeper shades to line at times, very beautiful. At the end of the day it still looks freshly done. They are definitely my HG. Thank you so much for sharing what you like most and how you’re using them! So fun! The Burnished Gold, (it is it copper not good?) is a lighter mossy green version of Spring 2015 to me. Both fabulous. I don’t think Platinum could ever not be flattering. TF does it so well. Siren Blue? Heavenly! I have grey eyes that will take on a deeper or lighter hue and lean more green or blue depending on the colors I wear and the “Blue Sky” eye look makes me feel good! My eyes are small, very slightly hooded, pigmented skin and inner corner turns down, outer turns up. Well concealed under eyes and lids with the use of an easy only one cream at a time also gives my eyes an open more even look. Nothing else I’ve tried achieves this. Now every day has blue skies. 😉 Lovely sharing the passion for these with you, thank you! ? Hope your night has a silver lining!
I’m delighted that my name holds such fond memories (i don’t think anyone has christened a child with the name, Helen, in the last 40 years…). Your description of her sounds very similar my memories of a friend’s mother (Cecile, gosh those names!!) that i went to public school with. At her 10th birthday party, her mother wore a miniskirt (stylish) and go-go boots! I couldn’t believe it. Tall, lanky…gorgeous.
Ohh, and thanks for the TF stamp of approval. I’ll wait for the TF cream shadows… 🙂
These look great – Silver Plum especially!
It does!
Silver Plum looks pretty!
I agree, Aj!
These are so pretty! Will definitely try to see if I like them!!
Keep us posted, Yadira!
These are such sophisticated colours that can be worn alone or paired with a myriad of other colours for special effects. Really lovely eye look too Christine.
Thank you, Genevieve!
These definitely give off a nice, soft glowy eye look. Very office apropos! For myself, I’ll stick to the more adventurous Colourpop, L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadows, even the MAC Electric Cools (guaranteed, they’ll come back again one day, haha!).
Although…,I do need to face the fact that as I get nearer to 60, considering these may be a good idea. *sigh*
Wear what you want!! 😀
Reading your comments.. You come off like one of the most liveliest and youthful in here! Just recently a near 70yr old woman posted a thank you to ColourPop for making color wearable and easy for her again. Don’t be hard on your age. It’s only a Humber. 🙂
number*
Joy, I sometimes scare myself because I look at the calendar and it tells me that in less than 6 weeks I’ll be 57, which is only 3 years from 60, but I’m out here wearing skinny jeans on my not-so-skinny body, big hoop earrings, and my hair is past the proverbial “strap”! And my makeup can go pretty wild, too! Yep, I scare myself! But the SA’s at MAC are always telling me how they love my makeup!? 60 looming….
Why do you scare yourself? You should be damn proud! ?IMHO. You rock!
You look fantastic. Besides, if you grow up, then I have to. 😛
Awww!!! Thanks Joy, Rachel and Christine!!! I guess I just need to keep on keeping on then! And not worry so much about the terrifying numbers that shake, rattle and roll up in my head!
I love the plum shade, I wish I had picked a couple more Specially silver pink , such a nice shade totally underrepresented in my stash!
Hopefully you can check it out sometime, Nati!
*hyperventilates* Oh My God… Silver Plum is the new hotness! DAMN! Truly, I like them all quite a bit. Being broke sucks!
Fingers crossed you can check ’em out when your wallet is flush 🙂
Clarins doesn’t get talked about enough in the beauty world. Their makeup is really good. I especially love their lip products.
What are your favorite Clarins’ shades?
Would you say that Silver Ivory could be used as a highlighter as well? Top of the cheeks, brow bone, cupid’s bow?
It has a pretty strong base color, so it would depend on your skin tone and preference for metallic finishes 🙂
Like product colors. Like them on you.
Thank you, Susan!
Okay, those colors are totally my jam.
Is the formula on these similar to Buxom Stay There at all? Because I was really bummed when they discontinued those.
Yes, very similar! For reference, Stay There is also similar to: MAC Electric Cool, ColourPop Super Shock Shadows, Chanel Illusion d’Ombres, Dior DiorShow Fusion Monos!
I have noticed this past few seasons, Clarins just seem to got with the same type of shades. Nude brown/taupe’s, I stop look and then walk away. I did buy the new lip primer which is excellent.
I think they did more vibrant shades for summer (after googling for info on this formula), though I didn’t personally see/try them!
I JUST bought Silver Pink the other day – this review just reaffirms my purchase! It’s such a unique colour/texture combination, I figured it would be lovely for a quick everyday makeup as a wash of colour on the lid. I was quite surprised by these eyeshadows, Clarins doesn’t usually grab my attention, but they are beautiful in finish, texture and colour.
Yay! Enjoy your new eyeshadow, Brittany 🙂
These remind me of the Laura Mercier Caviar Sticks holiday set (the look not feel I am sure). Beautiful look. I’m becoming obsessed with cream eyeshadows (from Chanel to Colourpop) recently since they’re so easy and pretty when the formula is spot-on.
I can definitely see the finishes being similar to the Caviar Sticks!
Wow! How interessant it is that one product can work so differently on different people! These creased like crazy on me, way worse than Dior, Chanel, By Terry, Mac paint pot and many of The others playing the same field. But there you go! I did, however forget to use a primer underneath, the first time, and that was even worse… But as I recall you usually don’t use primer when you test the shadows, and still managed to get 7-8 hours of wear time out of these! Amazing! They lasted less than an hour on me before creasing!
Wow, an hour! That is so crazy. It is very similar to the Dior/Chanel formulas (DiorShow Fusion Monos, Illusion d’Ombres), but I have had the same happen with “similar” formulas being very similar in every way but wear!
Silver Plum looks like something I´d love. I really like the concept of these shadows.
Silver Plum seems to be the favorite here!
Clarins! I love how Clarins has stepped up their game in the past couple of seasons. These shadows are lovely; Silver Ivory in particular looks like a really interesting shade 🙂 Greys often learn blue on me but this one doesn’t seem to have that cool element. I really like the eye look you did with these, Christine 🙂
Greys don’t “learn” blue on me – they lean blue on me lol…typo!
Thank you, Cathy! 🙂
I was a bit worried when I saw that the Ivory had pulled away from the sides like that, but I’m glad it was for nothing. All three colors look great!
I really have no idea why! I have seen it with some of products like this (Buxom, Chanel, ColourPop, MAC) – almost like it just releases from the edges but stays together.
These look pretty and very wearable, definitely considering buying one or two!
Woohoo! Which one tops your list?
Silver Plum! Next is Silver Pink ?.
These look beyoootiful.
They are! Super easy to wear shades.
On the wishlist! O my.. Love them all, especially silver plum.
Awesome 😀
They are very pretty and spring like. I would like the pink one, I do like pink eyeshadows.
They have a very ethereal kind of look to them – not your spring pastels but still very light and airy.
Silver Plum is gorgeous! I’m such a sucker for colors like that.
That makes two of us 🙂
Beautiful colors and glad to see good reviews.
Me too!
I have loved the Ombre Mattes since Clarins launched them. The colours are very flattering and the formula is fantastic. I am so happy that they got your thumbs up as well 😉
