Christian Louboutin Beaute Loubliaque Lip Lacquer ($85.00 for 0.16 fl. oz.) is newest launch from the brand. It is a lipgloss that’s supposed to have “brilliant, bold color” with “high-shine.” There are eight shades available; I purchased four to try and don’t expect to purchase the other four at this time. The gloss is housed in a clear, vial-like case, which is made out of plastic, with a flexible doe-foot applicator. It comes with a metallic ribbon that loops through the lid so that you can wear it (I would recommend using a sturdier chain). The formula is smooth, almost gel-like that feels cushion-y on the lips that is mostly non-sticky, and the shades I tried were fairly pigmented. The wear was between five and seven hours, while the formula was hydrating. The big issue I had with these was a tendency for them to get on my teeth. The formula has a floral scent and often soap-like taste. The formula reminded me a lot of href=”https://www.temptalia.com/product/chanel-rouge-allure-gloss/”>Chanel Rouge Allure Gloss and Dior Fluid Addicts (this one feels more water-like initially, but it develops to a similar consistency within 30 seconds). I think the way they look on the lips is beautiful and lush, but the taste was frustrating for me.

Christian Louboutin Beaute Altressa Loubliaque Lip Lacquer ($85.00 for 0.16 fl. oz.) is a bright, medium red with neutral-to-cool undertones and a glassy, cream finish. The color coverage was nearly opaque, but there was a hint of my natural lip color (and freckle) peeking through. It applied beautifully with even, smooth color, and it wore well for seven hours. I didn’t experience any feathering or bleeding around the lip line. Anastasia Neon Apple (-, $16.00) is darker (95% similar). NARS Disruptor (LE, $26.00) is lighter (95% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Dressed to Kill (P, $54.00) is lighter (95% similar). NARS No. 54 (P, $26.00) is lighter, brighter (95% similar). MAC Russian Red (P, $21.00) is lighter (95% similar). Tom Ford Beauty No Vacancy (P, $54.00) is lighter (90% similar). Giorgio Armani #402 Red to Go (P, $38.00) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). Anastasia Socialite (-, $16.00) is more muted (90% similar). Cle de Peau Bugatti Red (17) (P, $48.00) is darker, more muted, cooler (90% similar). Revlon Fire (DC, $7.49) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). MAC Forever Darling (P, $24.00) is less glossy (90% similar). NARS Le Palace (P, $26.00) is darker, warmer (90% similar). NARS Red District (LE, $26.00) is cooler (90% similar). NARS Special Force (LE, $28.00) is darker, warmer (90% similar). Anastasia Punchy Red (-, $16.00) is cooler (90% similar). MAC Opera (LE, $21.00) is more muted (90% similar). Anastasia Runway Red (-, $16.00) is more shimmery, darker (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty True Coral (P, $54.00) is more muted, cooler (95% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Erotic (P, $54.00) is lighter, cooler (85% similar). Maybelline Signature Scarlet (020) (P, $8.99) is lighter, warmer (85% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Christian Louboutin Beaute Casanovella Loubliaque Lip Lacquer ($85.00 for 0.16 fl. oz.) is a deep, red-burgundy with subtle, warm undertones and fine pearl. The consistency was a little thinner than the other shades, and it was harder to control along the edge of the lips–I felt like it kind of pooled past where I had initially applied it. It had semi-opaque coverage and darkened my lip lines noticeably. It did apply evenly, though, and lasted for six hours while hydrating my lips. Tom Ford Beauty Orchid Fatale (P, $54.00) is more shimmery, lighter (85% similar). Anastasia Venom (-, $16.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Makeup Geek Acoustic (P, $15.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). NARS Baden Baden (LE, $26.00) is less shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Anastasia Black Cherry (-, $16.00) is lighter (90% similar). NARS Kiki (LE, $26.00) is lighter (90% similar). Bite Beauty Black Coffee (LE, $22.00) is more muted, cooler (85% similar). ColourPop Tutti Fruity (P, $8.00) is less shimmery, lighter (85% similar). Anastasia Rum (P, $16.00) is warmer (85% similar). NARS Rouge Tribal (P, $26.00) is more shimmery, lighter, warmer (85% similar). Giorgio Armani Daybreak (201) (P, $38.00) is less shimmery, darker, warmer (85% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty Supa Dupa Fly (350) (P, $29.00) is less shimmery, lighter, cooler (85% similar). Maybelline Slay It (P, $7.99) is darker, more muted, cooler (80% similar). ColourPop Café de Paris (P, $10.00) is less shimmery, cooler (80% similar). MAC Sin (LE, $21.00) is lighter, warmer (80% similar). Lancome Molten Magenta (13) (P, $22.00) is more shimmery, lighter (80% similar). YSL Intimate Chocolate (217) (P, $38.00) is less shimmery, lighter, warmer (80% similar). Bite Beauty Cherry Pearl (LE, $22.00) is more shimmery, lighter, cooler (80% similar). MAC Lasting Achievement (DC, $19.50) is lighter (90% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

I’m not into lip glosses or lip lacquers, so even if this brand was available in my part of the world, even if I could afford them, I still wouldn’t buy them, not least because of the packaging. Though I know that the vials are supposed to resemble a mermaid’s tail, all I can see are carrots.

I do like the Casanovella shade. I’d love to find a lipstick formula dupe for it.

Veronica Avatar

LOL, I didn’t think of a mermaid’s tail at all. I thought of an apothecary’s vial or an icicle first. Now everything is just CARROTS.

Christine Avatar

Whatever Chanel used for the Rouge Allure Laques (and I think some of their glosses) has a higher-end feel but doesn’t seem quite as fragile as glass (but I’m not entirely sure what Chanel’s are made of – I remember they made noise when I tapped together that I feared them all breaking in the move, so I wrapped them individually, lol).

Julia Avatar

I was wondering if you would review these! I have no inclination to buy, but of course I was curious. ? I am not going to judge anyone who does or would be willing to spend $85 on a lipgloss, but for that price I would expect it to be the best thing I’d ever put on my lips. I saw that the reviews so far on Sephora were quite low, and made similar remarks to yours about transfer and heavy/ unpleasant scent. How disappointing!

Katherine T. Avatar

The packaging is stunning, and the gloss looks great in photos , but for $85, it shouldn’t leave gloss on teeth, have floral perfume, and soapy taste 🙁 Thanks for saving us money

Katherine T. Avatar

When I culled my lipstick stash, I had to toss quite a few lippies that tasted and smelled strongly of perfume (blech!). I mean if I want to drink perfume, I can just spray it in my mouth, don’t need it in my lipstick!

Lulle Avatar

These are getting awful reviews on Sephora, and from some of the French bloggers I follow, so I’ll stay away! A lot of people seem distrubed by the scent and taste, and some also had feathering/bleeding issues with all the shades. That would be a total deal breaker for me!

Mariella Avatar

I’m willing to spend on good quality products and now and then I’ll even splurge on a luxury product or two. But I honestly find the pricing of the products from this company to be offensive. In a world where there is so much need (you don’t even need to look to developing countries; most of us can look to places in our cities where there is need – where children don’t have enough to eat and where the elderly struggle to make ends meet), I just find sticking a price tag like this on a lip gloss (or nail polish, etc.) to be unacceptable. I honestly wonder if the people at Louboutin are laughing behind their hands at the makeup buying public, nudging one another in the ribs and saying “Wanna see if they’ll pay 100 bucks next time? I bet they will!” Sorry for going off on one, but I just find this obscene.

Mariella Avatar

No, not the quint – the 10 pan eyeshadow palette (which I thought was the one you used for your eyes). The quints are around $64, which isn’t too bad. Certainly more bang for your buck than a single lipgloss for $85.

LindaP Avatar

Mariella — Agreed on every point. Businesses have to make a profit, but Louboutin will not get a penny of my $. Not for an $85 lip gloss or a pair of $850 shoes. There is one thing to know that a price is high, it is another to feel completed, and irresponsibly gouged, which is what I think Louboutin does.

Anywho…. I too LOVE Christine’s eyes. I went right to Sephora to look it up too. It is $80, for a 10 palette. But Christine has a quint, so it must be another? Christine, can you tell us what? Thanks!

Mariella Avatar

I saw in the “Makeup Look” that it was YSL Nude but the only one I could find at Sephora was the 10 pan. Almost all of the quints have numbers rather than names on their site.

Christine Avatar

I think if these wore as well as Tom Ford’s recent lacquers, I’d be more jazzed, but Tom Ford’s were pricey as is (and as the rest of his line typically is). I knew I had to see if a darker shade in the Louboutin formula would go on well or not, and sure enough, it didn’t out-perform a lot of other glosses in that color family!

They seemed to have missed on packaging – that is the #1 complaint I see, that the packaging being plastic immediately makes it not worth the $85. The polishes, while impractical for storing in some ways, definitely have a more distinct and unique look that I could see why someone would make the splurge for packaging alone.

Veronica Avatar

Louboutin and Tom Ford are two lines that I always feel push the envelope where pricing is concerned, but I suspect a lot of that is branding. When you set up an image of being ultra-luxe and discriminate in your affordability, it creates an aura of prestige for the wealthy and indulgent.

Katherine T. Avatar

Yep, those were horrrrible!! I bought 2 on sale, and the perfume seemed to become more concentrated the longer they sat in my stash, finally threw them out.

Pearl Avatar

Annnnnnd I just read about the plastic. I was going by the look of it, so fancy.

Off topic a bit, but I am kind of hoping this opens the door for Tom Ford to start selling at Sephora. This is an astronomical price for a lip lacquer/gloss, but Tom Ford has products around this price point as well. Fingers crossed.

Shana Avatar

They should call them “loubilack”.

1. They failed about the mermaid vibs, all I see is pine cones, Christmas tree’s pine cone decorations.
Gold or silver cap, pine cone vial :
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xWuwQGeDRM0/UM6B-hnUtfI/AAAAAAAADOg/TEDUif5yGOM/s400/Bright+pinecones+72.jpg
And I see that there are much prettier pine cone Christmas tree decorations than those glosses. Lol !

2. They failed on the time to release them, they should sell them for holiday ! People with the Christmassy moods are much more receptive to buy those things.

3. The taste sounds horrible. If I have to choose one color between those 2, I’ll choose the red one, it looks very pretty on Christine, but I’ll get the TF one <3 rather than the loubs. TF is also expensive but the quality is there. And it doesn't smell like soap.

Veronica Avatar

Gloss isn’t my thing purely because these deeper shades bleed like crazy on me, but I have to admit that Casanovella (that’s a fun name, actually) is quite beautiful. If he wants to release a lipstick that looks like that, I admit actually consider the price tag as a one off indulgence.

Helene Avatar

Even though I like the colour of both, I’d never buy a gloss for this much.
If they were available here I guess they’d be some 20-25% more as we have a lot of tax on like everything. Buying them online would still be as expensive, or more as you’d have to pay customs and the the cost the post takes for printing and delivering a note and collecting the customs fee and that alone is $ 15.
I do appriciate that you buy products from the cheapest to the most expensive to review.

Laura Avatar

Oh dear god, if i could ever justify spending 85 dollars on one makeup item that Casanovella shade would be it, and to be honest it’s 75% due to the packaging. It looks like something out of some dumb fantasy novel I read as a kid and just hits me square in the feelings. So. Gorgeous.

renji anooj Avatar

omg..such a luxury product…Its a dream to own one of these…I love Casanovella the most….You are rocking every shade Christine… <3 <3

Anya Avatar

I think Altressa looks just like YSL Glossy Stain in Rouge Laque ( 9 i think) . Which wears well is comfortable stainy and doesn tste like anything. 🙂 so yeah not in a hurry to buy them . But they do look very nice and shiny. too bad for the taste 🙁

Christine Avatar

I think the assumption that people who might purchase this don’t give to charity is just inherently wrong – there’s no reason to guilt or judge people as less than or somehow not doing enough for global causes. People can purchase a luxury item (across any category) while still caring about larger issues as well as supporting them in whatever capacity that they may.

Trish Avatar

I’m surprised at the economy packaging. I expected them to be if not glass, then a heavy weight polymer. I only hesitated in ordering these due to the fear of encountering the same type of heavy scent and taste issues as I have with my new YSL Vinyl Cream Stains.
I honestly comethisclose to being nauseated for the first 5 minutes after applying my new YSL’s.
I love the Satin formulations of the Louie line- beautiful to wear- but I am so appreciative that you reviewed these and paid out of pocket for such a luxury product. This is why you are the BEST Christina!
I know if you say something is off, then something IS OFF!
I still want to look these over during the Nordstrom sale event, but they most likely will be a pass for me.
