What are some of your favorite collections from the past?
I loved MAC Neo Sci-Fi, which is quite old now! The packaging was fun, and the products were killer. I remember a few years after it launched, I regretted not buying more pieces from it.

Definitely the MAC Alluring Aquatics Collections. One of the best collections ever!
Totally, agree!!!?
Definitely, agree! Wish I picked up more items.
I loved MAC Hey Sailor, and the packaging from Alluring Aquatic. I definitely bought the most from the Gwen Stefani x UD collection though, both palettes, a lipstick, and a liner.
I have a deep love for the Mac x Fafi Collection, because that was my first LE MAC collection I ever purchased something from. Strawbaby lipstick is my favourite lipstick ever, and I wish I had bought 2.
In terms of regrets, the Marilyn Monroe collection came out the week I broke my arm so I was unable to go on the release day to make my purchases. I got a few things, but I missed the compact.
I loved the MAC Hello Kitty collection the most and regret not buying more from it. I also really liked the MAC Archie Girls collection but by the time I made it to the counter my top pics were already sold out. I had to scoop up the leftovers from the Veronica line which I love and still wear regularly.
The Hello Kitty collection for sure for me. I loved the product and swag. The other was the Spring Forecast collection for shades in the coral family. AND, of course, Liberty of London because of Ever Hip.
I have about three back-ups of Ever Hip. =) It’s my absolute favorite!
Yes, MAC Hello Kitty (sob). I missed it before it sold out. Hope they bring it back in my lifetime, maybe for Hello Kitty’s 50th birthday. My bank account would be empty!
I will always have a special place in my heart for the Raquel Welch collection from 2007. This came out right before my wedding; I was having a destination wedding and the warm colors were perfect, so I used several items from this collection on my wedding day. I still have the blush, quad, and beauty powder (I wish they would repromote the peaceful beauty powder!!).
I also really loved the D’Bohemia collection from 2005. My favorite pigment ever came from that collection– Deckchair!
OMGosh! Me too! Although I no longer wear any of the products because of their age- I kept everything from the Raquel collection and learned from her palette which colors to use for my eyes to my best advantage.
I think my favourite or the one I’m most nostalgic about was the Tartan Tales one….I only have (and only wanted) a few items from it but I loved the sort of “back-story” and photos and all that editorial stuff. And Peacocky, simply because the products were SO GOOD. Ditto Alluring Aquatics (and it’s even better that some of the shadows are now permanent; there is one I really want that wasn’t brought back, though, – Soul Serenade – and how I wish they’d bring that one back too.
I forgot Tartan Tale! I have some pan showing on the orange shadow from that line, despite trying to keep the plaid pattern going.
Mariella, yes to Soul Serenade, and also Lorelei!
MAC Alluring Aquatics, missed out on the entire collection which I regret so much.
Chantecaille’s LE Animal collections – always so beautiful and they’re for a great cause.
I missed the “boat” on the MAC Aquatics collection. I keep seeing Youtube videos swatching the beautiful shades from that collection and dat packaging doe! Oh well 🙂
MAC Alluring Aquatics is hands down my all-time favorite. Coincidentally I had just gotten into back makeup right before it came out so I guess perfect timing to fan the flame. Everything about it was just perfect – the packaging, the color story, the aesthetic and the promo pics, everything. MAC Extra Dimension is my favorite finish also.
I liked the MAC Brooke Shields collection, I think that was the first time they did a palette? I think that was the start of my preference for palettes. I loved the colors and got quite a few pieces from that collection.
MAC A Novel Romance collection (though nothing major) had some great pieces for me. I discovered Sex and the Oyster eye shadow (which is a new favorite) and stepped out of my comfort zone with a few fluidline eyeliner pens – I got a vivid purple and forest green and have been using them (subtly! ha ha) ever since. I loved the marketing and how well they did the cheesy promo pics.
I always look forward to MAC’s Holiday releases, even though none of them in particular stand out except for the packaging. Maybe that’s what seals the deal for me is the packaging? The holiday releases are always so massive and it seems like there are a lot of repromotes, but the packaging is what I always find fun and interesting and what might convince me to buy something even if I already have a dupe or the same product in just the plain old regular form.
I really liked this year’s Tom Ford Spring? or Summer? release with all of the cream color for eyes and (newly permanent?) quads. I don’t think they do collections that massive usually but I think it was also the change over from discontinuing some old quads and bringing in some new and introducing the cream color for eyes permanently. I like his collections in general because they are well-edited and I feel like I can pick and choose a few that suit me ( cream color for eyes, eye shadow quads). They are expensive but I feel like the quality is consistently there and they will last.
I love the NARS Audacious lipsticks and am glad they are permanent also. I got quite a few lipsticks but ended up giving some of them away, just because it finally dawned on me that these all would be bold (audacious, duh) and weren’t wearable for me. I really like the wear time and finish (on most of them) – I think I finally learned my favorite finish was Satin thanks to these lipsticks.
MAC Venomous Villains, Dior Mystic Metallics collection (Holiday 2013 I believe), an even older Dior collection, I believe it was for winter around 2006 or 07, I couldn’t find it despite trying to google it, but I remember the promo pic with a woman with platinum blond hair in a short bob, a creme studded beret and deep burgundy vampy lips. I bought multiple lipsticks and eyeshadows from that collection. Also last year’s Holiday collection by Guerlain was gorgeous, but I didn’t buy anything.
One of my all time favorites was the MAC Magic of the Night collection. Absolutely beautiful packaging. 🙂
For me, as a cat lover, it has to be MAC’s Fabulous Felines 🙂 The only quad which worked for me was Burmese Beauty (the other two were either too cool or too warm). I wish I’d picked up more of their lip products, though! I also liked the Blonde Brunette Redhead collection and (I think) the Apres Ski collection with Wintersky eyeshadow. (At least, I THINK it was called Apres Ski) ….
Oh my gosh, Wintersky! I only have the tiniest bit left in the pan now, but it’s so beautiful!
Mac peacocky
The esyeshadows the kissable lip colors. Mac center stage is my fav Mac es ever. Mac super is the perfect nude for me ( now one of many).
But I wouldn’t drop that kinda money on liq ls now, also they disappear from lips pretty fast.
I still have them.
I enjoyed Mac Fabulous Felines, Blonde Brunette Redhead, Neo Sci-Fi, Cult of Cherry. Lure had my favorite lipglass ever-Pink Clash which came back w/Rebel Rock, should be permanent, since nothing likes like it. I have most collections still in boxes, since I buy 2 or 3 of my favorites then forget about them or get bored. Comes in handy when they don’t repromote-which happens when the color/formula is really good & unique.
I loved the old Stila collection, when Jeannine Lobell was running the company, that came out only twice a year. She always had a cool warm, and neutral choice, and each included a perfectly coordinated shadow, blush, and lipstick. And they were great–they were unique yet generally not trendy, and looked beautiful worn together. Stila was such a great brand in is first few years–it was pretty much the only makeup I used. I miss that. Seriously, how many shades of brown shadow can you make and how many highlighter and contour palettes do there need to be before contouring goes out of style again?
What was last year’s summer one from MAC? Wash & Dry? That had my favorite packaging I think!
More recent MAC collections – Cinderella & Alluring Aquatics
older collections – Barbie Loves MAC, Give me Liberty of London, MCQueen
formulas I miss are: Metal X ( wish they would bring these back but in a pot form), tendertones (favorite lip balm of life), star flash eye shadow formula
The best MAC collection was the Digi-Pops/Dazzle Collection 2010! I sadly missed out on this one! Wish MAC would relaunch again! A girl can dream!
MAC To the Beach was a favorite as well as Hello Kitty. I was also a huge fan of Bobbi Brown Neon and Nudes and Nude Nectars.
Christine- your next Temptalia asks should be which collection did you miss out on?
I completely forgot to add MAC Warm and Cozy collection as well!
MAC Alluring Aquatics!!! And Tarte Aqualilies Palette!!! Both very summery in their vibe, and remind me of a happier time. I am STILL kicking myself for not buying Lorelei!
I really loved the Novel Romance and Toledo collections by MAC, too. Both had more interesting shades, yet still high quality products. Oh, and Maria Moretti collex gave me my favorite red lipstick ever!
MAC Aquatics for sure, followed by MAC Chris Chang
MAC Archie Girls – This was right before I started buying cosmetics again, so i just missed that ship. To me that was the last truly great MAC collection. The packaging was great the products were great – particularly the blushes. Give me Liberty of London just because I want Dirty Plum blush as nobody has released anything like it since which is a shame.
Mac neo sci-fi, packaging and products, I want more collections with neon packaging like this
Mac Barbie Collection, packaging and products
Mac heatherette Collection, packaging and products
Mac moonbathe Collection, mostly because of packaging
Mac Archies Girls, products and packaging, I Love the Betty bright Lipstick
Mac Dame edna, products and packaging
Mac Simpsons, only packaging, Unfortunately no lipsticks, why ?????
Mac cinderella, packaging
omg I totally forgot about the Moonbathe collection! I really loved older MAC collections, haven’t kept up with it since probably 2012
I would have loved to get something from the MAC Alluring Aquatics Collection or the A Tartan Tale Collection. I just totally missed the Alluring Aquatics one for some reason, and wasn’t yet into makeup when the Tartan Tale one came out in 2010. If the Hot Chocolate lipstick hadn’t been in a horribly racist collection like the Vibe Tribe one, I would have loved to get it as well. I know it was in a collection a while ago (Apres Chic in 2013) so hopefully it will come out again at some point.
Zoya Ignite nail polish collection from autumn 2014. Wish I’d bought one of each and two of Sansa. It’s my go-to polish all year ’round.
I’ve never seen the Sci-Fi collection before, that looks really fun.
I really remember and liked the Shiseido fall collection in 2010. There was a cleopatra-esque ad that caught my attention, and I remember loving how colorful and versatile the trios looked.
There have been a couple I loved just for the campaigns and ads, but I have no clue how the products fared. Chanel’s Etats Poetiques was also gorgeous. D&G had a very floral campaign that I think was called Bouquet? And Dior always has some really fun summer ones.
Kat von d Mi vida loca and Too Faced Sweet Peach
I loved the Gwen Stefani UD collection I bought both palettes, 4 lipsticks with matching lip pencils. I regret not picking up Kat Von D La Vida Loca palette and the Nars Steven Klein Abnormal Female set. 🙁
Dior Mystic Metals – beautiful colours and great ratings.
Tom Ford Collection from Autumn 2012 – the collection contained the beautiful Emerald Lust palette.
I love the Chris Chang Collection and the Toledo Collection… 🙂
I bought every piece of the MAC Osbourne collection minus the brushes, the 2 eyeliners, and the patent polish lipsticks (I get a reaction to that formula). I also bought a majority of the Venomous Villians collection. And I’ve gotten every piece of Sephora x Disneys Reining Beauties line aside from Jasmine’s eyeliners.
I wasn’t into MAC and makeup when the Barbie collection was released. Wish I had been!!!
Second the MAC Osbourne collection! Kelly’s color theme suited by skin tone perfectly!
MAC Alluring Aquatic… I’m hitting pan on my blush and bronzer. I have backups of the two lipsticks I liked and was super excited that Clear Water is back as a mini gloss.
MAC Alluring Aquatics had the best packaging ever IMHO.
Oh, and not to forget MAC Chris Chang collection! The packaging and the colors though!
MAC Cinderella
Love the packaging because it’s easy to find in my collection, and they put six of my favorite eyeshadows in one small palette usually the size of four.
The Estee Lauder Violet Underground collection from fall 2012 was gorgeous! I also loved Guerlain’s Crazy Paris collection from a couple of years ago.
MACs Liberty of London collection, I still have a few pieces for the sake of the packaging.
MAC Pop Mode from 2003 – I bought SO MUCH from it!
Both NARS and Chanel had some great fall and holiday collections over the last few years. Guerlain Russian Doll, I wanted everything from it. I loved MAC Alluring Aquatics, probably their best collection in recent memory!
As a person who is fair, cool-toned and does not wear any shade of brown or taupe eyeshadow, I kinda go loony when a great-quality collection comes out that doesn’t include mostly peaches, nudes and taupes/browns. This happens so infrequently that I rarely am tempted to buy everything in sight. The last collection I can remember was by Chanel (a rarity for me from this line, in particular) about 2 years ago. I bought 4 individual shadows, 2 lippies, a blush and a polish. I could have bought more, but restrained myself — barely. Most were LE, I believe. Still love every single item. (Berry/cherry-toned collections of excellent quality are when my eyes lustfully dilate and I get the I-gotta-have-craves-because-this-never-happens.)
MAC Alluring Aquatics! I missed out on the Hello Kitty collection.
