Charlotte Tilbury Medium/Dark Filmstar Bronze & Glow
Charlotte Tilbury Medium/Dark Filmstar Bronze & Glow ($68.00 for 0.52 oz.) is a new, permanent take on the often-raved about Filmstar Bronze & Glow that’s deeper and warmer. I think the texture is a bit more refined–smoother, more finely-milled, and forgiving on the skin–in the original, but this is still quite good. Both shades are good or better pigmentation that was buildable, while they were easily blended out on the skin. I had no problem wearing both powders all day long. I hope the brand will come out with an even darker version and/or cooler-toned varieties.
Medium/Dark Bronze is a medium-dark brown with warm undertones and a frosted, gold sheen. The texture was slightly dry, though it blended out without issue on the skin, and I felt like it was just slightly emphasizing my skin’s natural texture. On, the color lasted for eight and a half hours before fading. By Terry Light & Tan Vibes #1 (LE, ) is warmer (95% similar). MAC Delicates (LE, $35.50) is less shimmery (95% similar). ColourPop Paradise Cove (P, $8.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). NARS Casino (P, $38.00) is darker, warmer (90% similar). Kevyn Aucoin Tropical Days (P, $48.00) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Tarte Park Ave Princess (PiP, ) is more shimmery, lighter, warmer (90% similar). Medium/Dark Glow is a brightened pop of orange with warm undertones and a soft, orange-gold shimmer-sheen finish. The texture was soft, fairly smooth, and blendable. It had semi-opaque color payoff that was buildable in two passes, if desired. The shimmer in the powder didn’t emphasize pores, as it was finer and combined with the powder better than the bronzer. On my medium complexion, it added color and luminosity, so for some skin tones it may be an additional bronzer and/or highlighting blush, while for darker skin tones, it may be more of a traditional highlighter. It lasted for eight and a half hours on my skin. ColourPop Tock (LE, $12.00) is cooler (90% similar). Fenty Beauty Hunny Slope (LE, $36.00) is more shimmery, darker (90% similar). It’s a shame the contour shade isn’t much darker than the original, it’s probably too light for most dark skintones as a contour. Meanwhile, the highlight is gorgeous but probably too dark and orange (I know I couldn’t wear it as anything other than a blush) for most skintones who are not to dark for the contour shade. I don’t know, I just don’t think *both* shades are going to work on a lot of people – I think they should have gone for a darker contour.
It definitely seems more like a “Medium” palette than a Medium/Dark one. I think it’s mostly being sold as “medium-to-dark” and not truly an option for dark skin tones.
That’s exactly what I was thinking. I may look into it next summer. But, I use the original a lot and am pretty happy with that when I have no color form the sun. I was thinking this was going to be for darker skin tones. Looks like it may not quite make it.
it looks stunning on you!
Thank you, Patricia!
I was so excited about this… It’s pretty but I really don’t think that’s a contour for deeper skin tones. And newsflash to makeup companies, darker skin can handle cool tones too. If done right.
It’s definitely not what I would think of for trying to fit most dark skin tones!
This is true! I actually DO use Nyx Taupe blush, and I am NOT light! In MAC Studio Fix Liquid Foundation, I wear C4.5, and Medium Honey in Tarte Amazonian Clay Foundation. So definitely “Yes” to cooler tones to sculpt and give the look of an actual real-life shadow!
Ooooh, the glow shade really looks gorgeous! If only it came solo 🙂
If only!
I was excited to hear about this but I don’t think the contour shade will be dark enough for me after all 🙁
🙁 I totally understand. It could have been 3-4 shades darker!
It looks beautiful, but too dark and warm for me. The glow is so beautiful, in particular.
The glow is pretty!
Too dark for me, but both colors are very pretty and love the shimmer! I see the orange as more of blush than a highlighter, because it’s so orange. This isn’t cheap but seems like a decent deal for HE makeup. You get 2 colors, the brown can be used as bronzer/blush/contour/highlighter, and you can mix the brown and orange to get a 3rd color for a pretty blush
Yep! If you use both shades, it’s not a bad price for high-end!
When I look at this duo on you, I twind up thinking that it would be dark enough for me, but then I see that the bronzer dupe is CP Paradise Cove, of which I went for Poolside instead, because Poolside is deeper. So I’m not sure if this would work? But the two shades, particularly the highlighter, are really appealing!
*wind, not “twind”!
It may just be dark enough, but it is definitely on the lighter side of what I think would work.
I pretty much thought the same. It would show, but let’s put it this way; Poolside isn’t super obvious on me!
The sculpt shade looks like it has too much shimmer in it!
It does have a fair bit of it!
I am sure that they have other colours in the range – but this is way too dark for me.
It is a lovely product (and it should be for the price!). Again it looks really good on you Christine.
They just have the original, which is for fairer skin in general!
That glow tho? Yes ma’am!
It is so pretty!
