Chanel Tisse Riviera (224) Les 4 Ombres Eyeshadow Quad Review, Photos, Swatches
Chanel Tisse Riviera (224) Les 4 Ombres Eyeshadow Quad
Chanel Tisse Riviera (224) Les 4 Ombres Eyeshadow Quad ($61.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a cool-toned set of shades with a pop of blue. I think for someone who likes a bluish, smoky eye, this might be an interesting palette. I love a silver/gray-shot blue, because it’s a nice variation on blue that is noticeable but never feels over-the-top. The quality is good overall, though the blue shade was the worst-performing (but not a miss).
The entire quad, though visually they don’t seem particularly small, contains less product than most palettes/quads (including the regular U.S. version of quads). Baked formulations often weigh less than more traditional powder formulas do, but it’s hard to say if it contains as many uses as the regular quads.
Tisse Riviera #1 is described as a “metallic blue.” It’s a muted, almost gray-tinted, medium-dark blue with a soft, frosted finish. It had fairly good color payoff, though the texture was a touch powdery. The color wore well for nine hours before fading. Divergent Erudite Sapphire (LE) is darker. MAC A Sprinkle of Blues #2 (P, $21.00) is less shimmery. MAC Bleuluxe #2 (P) is more shimmery. Disney by Sephora Friend Like Me (LE) is warmer, brighter. Clinique Big Blue (P, $17.00) is a cream product. Tom Ford Beauty Cobalt Rush #2 (P) is darker. theBalm Matt Horowitz (LE, $16.00) is darker, less shimmery. Urban Decay Strip (DC, $18.00) is more metallic, lighter. MAC Bright Moon (LE, $21.00) is lighter. MAC Showgirl (LE, $21.00) Chanel Destination (LE, $36.00) is a cream product. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Tisse Riviera #2 is described as a “light pink.” It’s a light pink with very subtle golden shimmer that makes it appear almost warm-toned. It had mostly opaque color coverage, but it did apply very smoothly and blended beautifully on the skin. On me, the color stayed on well for eight and a half hours. MAC Rose Blend #1 (LE) is less shimmery, darker. MAC Eggplant Blend #1 (LE) is darker. Ulta Pink (P, $10.00) is more shimmery. bareMinerals Strawberry Mousse (LE, $14.00) is more matte. Tom Ford Beauty Seductive Rose #1 (P) is more shimmery. MAC Fair Sex (LE, $15.00) is similar. Kat Von D Instaglam (LE) is more metallic. Marc Jacobs Beauty The Tease #3 (P) is lighter. Chanel Variation #1 (P) is more matte. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Tisse Riviera #3 is described as a “shimmering grey.” It’s a light-medium, silvery taupe with subtle cool undertones and a pearly sheen. It had fairly good pigmentation, but it could have been just slightly more pigmented right off the bat, though it is buildable on the lid. The color didn’t show signs of creasing until after nine hours of wear. MAC Stormy Sunset (LE, $15.00) is darker. Disney by Sephora Kill Joy (LE) is darker. Urban Decay Verve (LE, $18.00) is brighter, warmer. Chanel Variation #2 (P) is browner. Bobbi Brown Rockstar (LE, $22.00) is browner. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Tisse Riviera #4 is described as a “deep navy blue.” It’s a medium-dark black with subtle warm undertones. (I think the description got messed up for this one, because it’s not blue at all.) It had good color payoff, and the texture was really soft, blendable, and not at all powdery. On me, it wore well for nine and a half hours before starting to fade. LORAC Navy #7 (LE) is lighter. MAC Cool Companions #3 (LE) is warmer. NARS Sycorax (P, $29.00) is cooler-toned. Sleek MakeUP Acid #12 (P, $9.99) is darker. Chanel Jardin Zen #4 (LE) is warmer. Anastasia Black Diamond (LE) is warmer. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Ohh that number 4 is beautiful! I love how seamlessly the colours blend together to create a soft look. Something I would expect from Chanel.
They work quite well together!
While this palette is too cool-toned for me, your posts featuring MJ eyeliner on your lower lash line makes me want to go to Sephora to swatch the line! 🙂 I own two of the MJ eyeliners and really like them and am thinking about getting a few more :).
They’re a really nice range 🙂 I think I have all but one, lol!
This is an interesting quad but not something I would typically go for! The look you did is amazing nevertheless! 🙂
Thank you, Divya!
I like the blue and black!
The black was more impressive than I anticipated!
To say that I am completely enamoured by this palette would be an understatement! The colour mix, and variety is simply stunning – CHANEL really puts together some of the best palettes I’ve seen!
Do you think you’ll splurge on this one, Stephanie?
This is quite pretty! I passed on this as I don’t wear as much blue eyeshadow as I probably should (considering how much easier a navy smokey eye wears on hooded eyes), but it did look like a great set for fair skin tones in particular. I think I’d probably go for Guerlain’s Les Gris before I went for this, but it’s a good addition to the line. 🙂
It’s definitely nice to see a quad with a lil’ color in it when so many are more neutral!
Guerlain’s Les Gris is by far the best. You will not be disappointed.
You’ve sold me on these. I’m going to get one but can’t decide. Do you have a suggestion? Blonde hair, blue eyes, yellow undertone. I just don’t know…
If not, no problem! Thanks for the reviews!
Do you want a really everyday/neutral/easy look or something with a little more oomph?
Everyday. I like both…but end up wearing the everyday (and at this price point that makes more sense). But if you have ideas for both I’d love to hear it as I might eventually add a second one of these. Thanks!!!
For everyday… I would say Rivoli or Gabrielle. For something a little more wow… Venitien!
I don’t know where the best place to ask this is, so forgive me for mentioning it here. But will you be doing a review of Tarte’s Rainforest After Dark palette? It’s LE, but I am rather tempted by the pretty purples.
Hi Kirsten,
Sorry, I don’t have that!
Absolutely lovely!
Will you be getting this one, Erin?
Because of the muted aspect to the colors and the supremely easy to blend formulation, this is an excellent quad for us older ladies who want to wear color without it looking garish or “too young”. I did not originally purchase Riviera, but because I was so eminently happy with Vénitien, I went back and purchased this blue themed palette. At first I thought the black shade would be “just another black”, but once I saw how seamlessly it flowed into the silver or the blue, I realized no other black would do this set of colors justice. In addition to ease of blending, it has a blue undertone that complements and enhances the overall soft and smoky blue scheme of the palette.
I was actually surprised at how blendable and pigmented the black was – I thought it might get a little powdery in this formulation, but it was very smooth.
I really love the blue colour, but a little disappointed in the number 4 colour – I wish it were more teal or navy. Beautiful but will give it a miss.
Aww, that is too bad!
This quad is much easier for me to take a pass on than the other 3 (I purchased one and plan to purchase at least one other – Rivoli – and possibly, Venetien). But I love Tisse Riviera #3 (not surprising…it’s TAUPE!).
I think you will love Rivoli 🙂
I think this is the best one, so far. There seems to be more distinction between shades/tones, yet they all work together, and the blue is a wearable one. I still won’t likely pick one up, but if I do, mthis would be the one.
It definitely depends on the look you’re going for – this one will give you more variety in placement since it has more contrast!
I like it! Love the look you did with this!
Thanks, Denise!
Ok Christine.
You are keeping me un stitches.
I hope you have the last quad to review…the one I bought..the purple one.
Tisse Cambon? Yes, I do! 🙂 The only one I don’t have is Poesie.
Yeah, I l took one look at this and thought it looked like some cheap frosty eyeshadow palette from the 70’s. Instant dislike. While this palette still isn’t me, I think the look you have done is really classy and beautiful. The finish and colours are far more sophisticated than I expected. Very Nice.
Aw, thanks, Wendy 🙂
I love the look you made with these. It says winter, snow and ice to me.
If I was into blueish colours I’d buy this one.
So far none of the Chanel quads have whispered, Buy me, buy me! to me.
Thank you, Helene!
OK, that blue makes me feel a little better after that Dior! 😉 I love the soft, muted quality of it! I’m not sure I’d really go for the whole palette though, since I feel like I have things similar to the other shades. I wish they sold that blue as a single!
But then the single would be half the price of a quad, lol!
