Blush for Hire: Will Work for Smoky Eye

Chanel Pink Explosion Joues Contraste ($42.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a beautiful, decadent luxury of a blush in a brightened pink with just a hint of blue undertones. Chanel blushes have a cult following, with fans coveting each new shade the brand releases. I don’t think Pink Explosion disappoints–it is the most wearable of three new and limited edition shades releasing with the fall collection.

For those who don’t follow Chanel or rarely stop by the counter, let me tell you a little about what makes these blushes so loved. They are finely-milled, silky smooth powders that apply beautifully on skin. This is not a blush that will look chalky or powdery–it lays down on skin like it belongs there; the shades, no matter their hue, always look natural on cheeks.

Like any range, not all shades may work for all skin tones–some are on the lighter side–but Pink Explosion packs enough pigment to go bubblegum pink. It’s just as easy to create a soft, petal pink flush with just a tap of the brush. Pink Explosion has a soft white shimmer that is nearly undetectable once it’s applied. Instead, it gives off a lowkey, luminous glow. I’m hesitant to even call it a sheen, because it’s so subtle.

  • Product: 29/30
  • Value: 7/10
  • Ease of Use: 4/5
  • Packaging: 4/5

RECOMMENDATION: I really love it for neutral and cooler skin tones–it’s such a pretty pink. It will work on warmer skin tones, but I think it’s perfect cooler skin tones. For those with warmer skin tones, it pairs well with smokier, cooler-toned eyes.

Oh no, that blush is just too gorgeous! Christine I think you are going to be the one that finally push me to enter world of high end makeup! Chanel, Guerlain, YSL here I come.

Hey Christine! Thank you for your hard work! I was just wondering if you received/will be doing swatches for the new Chanel glossimers. I was just wondering because I was going to order online and would like some swatches on a warm-toned gal before I order. It’s totally fine if you’re not, and I know you’re busy, I just wanted to know if I should hold out a little bit. πŸ™‚

That looks GORGEOUS on! I don’t think I have anywhere locally to buy chanel or I’d be there swatching it in a heartbeat. THis sounds like something I’d LOVE in practice.

This is BEAUTIFUL! Would you say MAC’s Dame is most similar to this? I can’t bear to hand over $42 for a blush, no matter what the quality or brand.

Not nearly as blue-based, I’d say – the texture is also pretty different. Kind of similar, but they’re not dupes.

Hi Christine!

Can you tell me how this compares to NARS Angelika? Your review says the sparkles are not noticeable once applied. I’m hoping this is the case as I def noticed glitter chunks when I swatched it yesterday.

Thanks!

Thank you sooooo much Christine for your Chanel 2010 posts/swatches. My Macy’s counter got the collection in yesterday and according to my SA Pink Explosion is selling out fast. One has my name on it πŸ™‚

it looks exact the same as mac dollymix, i have dollymix on my left cheek and chanel pink explosion on the other cheek xD maybe its the lightening and I can’t see difference .. but yah ..

Which one do you think will work better for a really pale skin – this one or Chanel Tweed Fuchsia Tissages de Chanel? I myself just can’t figure out the difference between these two.
Thank you!
